th This book contains papers accepted for presentation at the 4 International Conference on Computer Recognition Systems CORES'05, May 22-25, 2005, Rydzyna Castle (Poland), This conference is a continuation of a series of con ferences on similar topics (KOSYR) organized each second year, since 1999, by the Chair of Systems and Computer Networks, Wroclaw University of Tech nology. An increasing interest to those conferences paid not only by home but also by foreign participants inspired the organizers to transform them into conferences of international range. Our expectations that the community of specialists in computer recognizing systems will find CORES'05 a proper form of maintaining the tradition of the former conferences have been confirmed by a large number of submitted papers. Alas, organizational constraints caused a necessity to narrow the acceptance criteria so that only 100 papers have been finally included into the conference program. The area covered by accepted papers is still very large and it shows how vivacious is scientific activity in the domain of computer recognition methods and systems. It contains vari ous theoretical approaches to the recognition problem based on mathematical statistics, fuzzy sets, morphological methods, wavelets, syntactic methods, genetic algorithms, artificial neural networks, ontological models, etc. Most attention is still paid to visual objects recognition; however, acoustic, tex tual and other objects are also considered. Among application areas medical problems are in majority; recognition of faces, speech signals and textual in formation processing methods being also investigated.

Entropy in Image Analysis by Amelia Carolina Sparavigna Pdf

Image analysis is a fundamental task for extracting information from images acquired across a range of different devices. Since reliable quantitative results are requested, image analysis requires highly sophisticated numerical and analytical methods—particularly for applications in medicine, security, and remote sensing, where the results of the processing may consist of vitally important data. The contributions to this book provide a good overview of the most important demands and solutions concerning this research area. In particular, the reader will find image analysis applied for feature extraction, encryption and decryption of data, color segmentation, and in the support new technologies. In all the contributions, entropy plays a pivotal role.

Bridging the Semantic Gap in Image and Video Analysis by Halina Kwaśnicka,Lakhmi C. Jain Pdf

This book presents cutting-edge research on various ways to bridge the semantic gap in image and video analysis. The respective chapters address different stages of image processing, revealing that the first step is a future extraction, the second is a segmentation process, the third is object recognition, and the fourth and last involve the semantic interpretation of the image. The semantic gap is a challenging area of research, and describes the difference between low-level features extracted from the image and the high-level semantic meanings that people can derive from the image. The result greatly depends on lower level vision techniques, such as feature selection, segmentation, object recognition, and so on. The use of deep models has freed humans from manually selecting and extracting the set of features. Deep learning does this automatically, developing more abstract features at the successive levels. The book offers a valuable resource for researchers, practitioners, students and professors in Computer Engineering, Computer Science and related fields whose work involves images, video analysis, image interpretation and so on.

Motion Correction in MR by Andre van der Kouwe,Jalal B. Andre Pdf

Motion Correction in MR: Correction of Position, Motion, and Dynamic Changes, Volume Eight provides a comprehensive survey of the state-of-the-art in motion detection and correction in magnetic resonance imaging and magnetic resonance spectroscopy. The book describes the problem of correctly and consistently identifying and positioning the organ of interest and tracking it throughout the scan. The basic principles of how image artefacts arise because of position changes during scanning are described, along with retrospective and prospective techniques for eliminating these artefacts, including classical approaches and methods using machine learning. Internal navigator-based approaches as well as external systems for estimating motion are also presented, along with practical applications in each organ system and each MR modality covered. This book provides a technical basis for physicists and engineers to develop motion correction methods, giving guidance to technologists and radiologists for incorporating these methods in patient examinations. Provides approaches for correcting scans prospectively and retrospectively Shows how motion and secondary effects such as field changes manifest in MR scans as artifacts and subtle biases in quantitative research Gives methods for measuring motion and associated field changes, quantifying motion and judging the accuracy of the motion and field estimates
