Computational and Information Science by Jun Zhang,Ji-Huan He,Yuxi Fu Pdf

The 2004 International Symposium on Computational and Information Sciences (CIS 2004) aimed at bringing researchers in the area of computational and - formation sciences together to exchange new ideas and to explore new ground. The goal of the conference was to push the application of modern computing technologies to science, engineering, and information technologies to a new level of sophistication and understanding. Theinitialideatoorganizesuchaconferencewithafocusoncomputationand applicationswasoriginatedbyDr.JunZhang, duringhisvisittoChinainAugust 2003, in consultation with a few friends, including Dr. Jing Liu at the Chinese Academy of Sciences, Dr. Jun-Hai Yong at Tsinghua University, Dr. Geng Yang at Nanjing University of Posts and Communications, and a few others. After severaldiscussionswithDr.Ji-HuanHe,itwasdecidedthatDonghuaUniversity would host CIS 2004. CIS 2004 attempted to distinguish itself from other conferences in its - phasis on participation rather than publication. A submitted paper was only reviewed with the explicit understanding that, if accepted, at least one of the authors would attend and present the paper at the conference. It is our - lief that attending conferences is an important part of one’s academic career, through which academic networks can be built that may bene?t one’s academic life in the long run. We also made every e?ort to support graduate students in attending CIS 2004. In addition to set reduced registration fees for full-time graduate students, we awarded up to three prizes for to the Best Student Papers at CIS 2004. Students whose papers were selected for awards were given cash prizes, plus a waiver of registration fees.

Programming Languages and Systems by Wei-Ngan Chin Pdf

On behalf of the organizing committee I would like to welcome you all to the second Asian Symposium on Programming Languages and Systems (APLAS 2004) held in Taipei on November 4–6, 2004. Since the year 2000, researchers in the area of programming languages and systems have been meeting annually in Asia to present their most recent research results, thus contributing to the advancementofthisresearcharea.ThelastfourmeetingswereheldinSingapore (2000), Daejeon (2001), Shanghai (2002), and Beijing (2003). These meetings were very fruitful and provided an excellent venue for the exchange of research ideas, ?ndings and experiences in programming languages and systems. APLAS 2004 is the ?fth such meeting and the second one in symposium setting. The ?rst symposium was held in Beijing last year. The success of the APLAS series is the collective result of many people’s contributions.ForAPLAS2004,?rstIwouldliketothankallthemembersofthe Program Committee, in particular the Program Chair Wei-Ngan Chin, for their hardworkinputtingtogetheranexcellentprogram.Iammostgratefultoinvited speakers, Joxan Ja?ar, Frank Pfenning, and Martin Odersky, who have traveled a long way to deliver their speeches at APLAS 2004. I would like to thank all the referees, who helped review the manuscripts, the authors, who contributed to the proceedings of APLAS 2004, the members of the Organizing Committee, who made considerable e?ort to organize this event, and all the participants present at this meeting. Without your support this symposium would not have been possible. Finally I would like to acknowledge the support of the Asian Association for Foundation of Software and Academia Sinica, Taiwan.

Active and Real-Time Database Systems (ARTDB-95) by Mikael Berndtsson,Jörgen Hansson Pdf

The areas of active and real-time databases have seen a tremendous growth of interest in the past few years, particularly with regard to their support of time-critical and embedded applications. ARTDB-95 provided, therefore, an important forum for researchers from both communities to discuss research results, and also to chart new directions for the future. As well as the 11 submitted papers presented at the workshop, this volume also contains 4 invited papers on the following topics: the impact of active databases on commercial practice; the optimization of active database transactions; the need for better language, compiler and tool support for real-time databases; and the origin of time constraints associated with data, events and actions. Together the papers give a comprehensive overview of current research, and will provide invaluable reading for academic and industrial researchers and students at both undergraduate and postgraduate level.

Focal-Plane Sensor-Processor Chips by Ákos Zarándy Pdf

Focal-plane sensor-processor imager devices are sensor arrays and processor arrays embedded in each other on the same silicon chip. This close coupling enables ultra-fast processing even on tiny, low power devices, because the slow and energetically expensive transfer of the large amount of sensory data is eliminated. This technology also makes it possible to produce locally adaptive sensor arrays, which can (similarly to the human retina) adapt to the large dynamics of the illumination in a single scene This book focuses on the implementation and application of state-of-the-art vision chips. It provides an overview of focal plane chip technology, smart imagers and cellular wave computers, along with numerous examples of current vision chips, 3D sensor-processor arrays and their applications. Coverage includes not only the technology behind the devices, but also their near- and mid-term research trends.

Distributed, Embedded and Real-time Java Systems by M. Teresa Higuera-Toledano,Andy J. Wellings Pdf

Research on real-time Java technology has been prolific over the past decade, leading to a large number of corresponding hardware and software solutions, and frameworks for distributed and embedded real-time Java systems. This book is aimed primarily at researchers in real-time embedded systems, particularly those who wish to understand the current state of the art in using Java in this domain. Much of the work in real-time distributed, embedded and real-time Java has focused on the Real-time Specification for Java (RTSJ) as the underlying base technology, and consequently many of the Chapters in this book address issues with, or solve problems using, this framework. Describes innovative techniques in: scheduling, memory management, quality of service and communication systems supporting real-time Java applications; Includes coverage of multiprocessor embedded systems and parallel programming; Discusses state-of-the-art resource management for embedded systems, including Java’s real-time garbage collection and parallel collectors; Considers hardware support for the execution of Java programs including how programs can interact with functional accelerators; Includes coverage of Safety Critical Java for development of safety critical embedded systems.

Lectures on Embedded Systems by Grzegorz Rozenberg,Frits W. Vaandrager Pdf

This volume originates from the School on Embedded Systems held in Veldhoven, The Netherlands, in November 1996 as the first event organized by the European Educational Forum. Besides thoroughly reviewed and revised chapters based on lectures given during the school, additional papers have been solicited for inclusion in the present book in order to complete coverage of the relevant topics. The authors adress professionals involved in the design and management of embedded systems in industry as well as researchers and students interested in a competent survey. The book will convince the reader that many architectural and algorithmic problems in the area of embedded systems have well documented optimal or correct solutions, notably in the fields of real-time computing, distributed computing, and fault-tolerant computing.
