Periodic Pattern Mining by R. Uday Kiran,Philippe Fournier-Viger,Jose M. Luna,Jerry Chun-Wei Lin,Anirban Mondal Pdf

This book provides an introduction to the field of periodic pattern mining, reviews state-of-the-art techniques, discusses recent advances, and reviews open-source software. Periodic pattern mining is a popular and emerging research area in the field of data mining. It involves discovering all regularly occurring patterns in temporal databases. One of the major applications of periodic pattern mining is the analysis of customer transaction databases to discover sets of items that have been regularly purchased by customers. Discovering such patterns has several implications for understanding the behavior of customers. Since the first work on periodic pattern mining, numerous studies have been published and great advances have been made in this field. The book consists of three main parts: introduction, algorithms, and applications. The first chapter is an introduction to pattern mining and periodic pattern mining. The concepts of periodicity, periodic support, search space exploration techniques, and pruning strategies are discussed. The main types of algorithms are also presented such as periodic-frequent pattern growth, partial periodic pattern-growth, and periodic high-utility itemset mining algorithm. Challenges and research opportunities are reviewed. The chapters that follow present state-of-the-art techniques for discovering periodic patterns in (1) transactional databases, (2) temporal databases, (3) quantitative temporal databases, and (4) big data. Then, the theory on concise representations of periodic patterns is presented, as well as hiding sensitive information using privacy-preserving data mining techniques. The book concludes with several applications of periodic pattern mining, including applications in air pollution data analytics, accident data analytics, and traffic congestion analytics.

Social Big Data Analytics by Bilal Abu-Salih,Pornpit Wongthongtham,Dengya Zhu,Kit Yan Chan,Amit Rudra Pdf

This book focuses on data and how modern business firms use social data, specifically Online Social Networks (OSNs) incorporated as part of the infrastructure for a number of emerging applications such as personalized recommendation systems, opinion analysis, expertise retrieval, and computational advertising. This book identifies how in such applications, social data offers a plethora of benefits to enhance the decision making process. This book highlights that business intelligence applications are more focused on structured data; however, in order to understand and analyse the social big data, there is a need to aggregate data from various sources and to present it in a plausible format. Big Social Data (BSD) exhibit all the typical properties of big data: wide physical distribution, diversity of formats, non-standard data models, independently-managed and heterogeneous semantics but even further valuable with marketing opportunities. The book provides a review of the current state-of-the-art approaches for big social data analytics as well as to present dissimilar methods to infer value from social data. The book further examines several areas of research that benefits from the propagation of the social data. In particular, the book presents various technical approaches that produce data analytics capable of handling big data features and effective in filtering out unsolicited data and inferring a value. These approaches comprise advanced technical solutions able to capture huge amounts of generated data, scrutinise the collected data to eliminate unwanted data, measure the quality of the inferred data, and transform the amended data for further data analysis. Furthermore, the book presents solutions to derive knowledge and sentiments from BSD and to provide social data classification and prediction. The approaches in this book also incorporate several technologies such as semantic discovery, sentiment analysis, affective computing and machine learning. This book has additional special feature enriched with numerous illustrations such as tables, graphs and charts incorporating advanced visualisation tools in accessible an attractive display.

Handbook of AI-based Metaheuristics by Anand J. Kulkarni,Patrick Siarry Pdf

At the heart of the optimization domain are mathematical modeling of the problem and the solution methodologies. The problems are becoming larger and with growing complexity. Such problems are becoming cumbersome when handled by traditional optimization methods. This has motivated researchers to resort to artificial intelligence (AI)-based, nature-inspired solution methodologies or algorithms. The Handbook of AI-based Metaheuristics provides a wide-ranging reference to the theoretical and mathematical formulations of metaheuristics, including bio-inspired, swarm-based, socio-cultural, and physics-based methods or algorithms; their testing and validation, along with detailed illustrative solutions and applications; and newly devised metaheuristic algorithms. This will be a valuable reference for researchers in industry and academia, as well as for all Master’s and PhD students working in the metaheuristics and applications domains.
