Geometric and Topological Methods for Quantum Field Theory by Sylvie Paycha Pdf

This volume, based on lectures and short communications at a summer school in Villa de Leyva, Colombia (July 2005), offers an introduction to some recent developments in several active topics at the interface between geometry, topology and quantum field theory. It is aimed at graduate students in physics or mathematics who might want insight in the following topics (covered in five survey lectures): Anomalies and noncommutative geometry, Deformation quantisation and Poisson algebras, Topological quantum field theory and orbifolds. These lectures are followed by nine articles on various topics at the borderline of mathematics and physics ranging from quasicrystals to invariant instantons through black holes, and involving a number of mathematical tools borrowed from geometry, algebra and analysis.

Quantum Groups by Vladimir K. Dobrev Pdf

With applications in quantum field theory, general relativity and elementary particle physics, this three-volume work studies the invariance of differential operators under Lie algebras, quantum groups and superalgebras. This second volume covers quantum groups in their two main manifestations: quantum algebras and matrix quantum groups. The exposition covers both the general aspects of these and a great variety of concrete explicitly presented examples. The invariant q-difference operators are introduced mainly using representations of quantum algebras on their dual matrix quantum groups as carrier spaces. This is the first book that covers the title matter applied to quantum groups. Noncommutative Geometry and Representation Theory in Mathematical Physics by Jürgen Fuchs Pdf

Mathematics provides a language in which to formulate the laws that govern nature. It is a language proven to be both powerful and effective. In the quest for a deeper understanding of the fundamental laws of physics, one is led to theories that are increasingly difficult to put to the test. In recent years, many novel questions have emerged in mathematical physics, particularly in quantum field theory. Indeed, several areas of mathematics have lately become increasingly influentialin physics and, in turn, have become influenced by developments in physics. Over the last two decades, interactions between mathematicians and physicists have increased enormously and have resulted in a fruitful cross-fertilization of the two communities. This volume contains the plenary talks fromthe international symposium on Noncommutative Geometry and Representation Theory in Mathematical Physics held at Karlstad University (Sweden) as a satellite conference to the Fourth European Congress of Mathematics. The scope of the volume is large and its content is relevant to various scientific communities interested in noncommutative geometry and representation theory. It offers a comprehensive view of the state of affairs for these two branches of mathematical physics. The book is suitablefor graduate students and researchers interested in mathematical physics.

Multiple Facets of Quantization and Supersymmetry by M. A. Olshanetsky,Arkady Vainshtein Pdf

This book is dedicated to the memory of Michael Marinov, the theorist who together with Felix Berezin introduced the classical description of spin by anticommuting Grassmann variables. The Volume contains original papers and reviews of physicists and mathematicians written specifically for this book. These articles reflect the current status and recent developments in the areas of Marinov's research interests: quantum tunneling, quantization of constrained systems, supersymmetry and others. Included personal recollections portray a human face of Michael Marinov, a person of great knowledge and integrity.

Quantum Groups and Their Applications in Physics by Leonardo Castellani,Julius Wess Pdf

This book focuses on quantum groups, i.e., continuous deformations of Lie groups, and their applications in physics. These algebraic structures have been studied in the last decade by a growing number of mathematicians and physicists, and are found to underlie many physical systems of interest. They do provide, in fact, a sort of common algebraic ground for seemingly very different physical problems. As it has happened for supersymmetry, the q-group symmetries are bound to play a vital role in physics, even in fundamental theories like gauge theory or gravity. In fact q-symmetry can be considered itself as a generalization of supersymmetry, evident in the q-commutator formulation. The hope that field theories on q-groups are naturally reguralized begins to appear founded, and opens new perspectives for quantum gravity. The topics covered in this book include: conformal field theories and quantum groups, gauge theories of quantum groups, anyons, differential calculus on quantum groups and non-commutative geometry, poisson algebras, 2-dimensional statistical models, (2+1) quantum gravity, quantum groups and lattice physics, inhomogeneous q-groups, q-Poincaregroup and deformed gravity and gauging of W-algebras.

Groups and Related Topics by R. Gielerak,J. Lukierski,Z. Popowicz Pdf

In the seventies and eighties, scientific collaboration between the Theory Section of the Physics Department of Leipzig University and the Institute of Theoretical Physics of the University of Wroolaw was established. This manifested itself, among other things, in the organization of regular, twice-yearly seminars located alternatively in Wrodaw and Leipzig. These Seminars in Theoretical Physics took place 27 times, the last during November 1990. In order to continue the traditions of German-Polish contacts in theoretical physics, we decided to start a new series of Seminars in Theoretical Physics and name them after the outstanding German theoretical physicist Max Born who was born in 1883 in Wrodaw. We hope that these seminars will continue to contribute to better scientific contacts and understanding between German and Polish theoretical physicists. The First Max Born Symposium was held in Wojnowice Castle, 20 km west of Wrodaw, 27 - 29 September 1991. Wojnowice Castle was built in the 16th century by the noble Boner family, in the Renaissance style, and has been recently adapted as a small conference center. The preferred subjects at the Symposium were Quantum Groups and Integrable Models. The Symposium was organized by Doctors R. Gielerak and Z. Popowicz under the scientific supervision of the undersigned.
