Quantum Chromodynamics And Color Confinement (Confinement 2000) - Proceedings Of The International Symposium by Hideo Suganuma,Masahiro Fukushima,Hiroshi Toki Pdf

The quark confinement mechanism is one of the most difficult problems in particle physics, and is listed as the 7 difficult mathematical problems of the new millennium. The first person who first solves this problem will be awarded a prize of US$ 1 Million by Cray Mathematics Institute. This volume is useful for the systematic understanding of quark confinement and nonperturbative aspects of quantum chromodynamics (QCD) from the wide viewpoints of mathematical physics, lattice QCD physics and quark-hadron physics. It covers the current studies of nonperturbative QCD: quark confinement mechanism; topologies in QCD (instantons, monopoles and vortices); BRS quartet mechanism for color confinement; lattice QCD calculations for quarks, gluons and hadrons; dynamical chiral symmetry breaking and hadrons.

This book provides an update on our understanding of strong interaction, with theoretical and experimental highlights included. It is divided into five sections. The first section is devoted to the investigations into and the latest results on the mechanism of quark confinement. The second and third sections focus respectively on light and heavy quarks (effective field theories, Schwinger–Dyson approach and lattice QCD results). The fourth section deals with the deconfinement mechanism and quark–gluon plasma formation signals. The last section presents highlights of experiments, new physics beyond QCD, and nonperturbative approaches in other theories (strings and SUSY) that may be useful in QCD. Contents:Vortices, Confinement and Higgs Fields (R Bertle & M Faber)Hadronic Signature of Quark–Gluon Plasma (J Rafelski & J Letessier)Topology of Center Vortices (H Reinhardt)The Nonperturbative Quark-Gluon Vertex (J Skullerud et al.)Equivalence in Minkowski and Euclidean Field Theories (K M Maung et al.)Criterium for the Index Theorem on the Lattice (P Bicudo)Isospin Breaking in the Goldberger–Treiman Discrepancies (J L Goity & J Saez)Quantum Field Theory Approach to the Vacuum Replica in QCD (A V Nefediev & J E F T Ribeiro)Charm and Bottom Quark Masses from QCD Moment Sum Rules (M Eidemüller)Dilepton Production in Heavy-Ion Collisions: A Probe of Deconfinement (E Scomparin)Deuteron Photodisintegration at High Energy (F Ronchetti)Semianalytical Bounds on Spinless–Salpeter Energy Levels (R L Hall et al.)String Breaking and Monopoles in the 3D Abelian Higgs Model (M N Chernodub et al.)and other papers Readership: Researchers in high-energy, particle, theoretical, accelerator and experimental physics. Quark Confinement And The Hadron Spectrum - Proceedings Of The International Conference by Nora Serafina Brambilla,Giovanni Maria Prosperi Pdf

The 20-year-old problem of the confinement and the resulting spectrum of the bound states is central to quantum chromodynamics (QCD). Many approaches have been tried starting from different points of view: the potential theory, the Bethe-Salpeter equation, string and flux tube models, bag models, vacuum structure, current algebra, lattice theory, and numerical simulations. Phenomenological assumptions and first-principle theoretical results or indications have been combined. Many partial successes have been attained, but a unified and comprehensive treatment is still lacking. In recent years, new attention has been given to the problem, both in terms of theoretical developments and for the purpose of evaluating the spectrum and other properties of the particles. In particular, attention has been focussed on areas like numerical simulations, the derivation of the potential, the use of the Bethe-Salpeter equation, the connection between the potential and the chiral symmetry approach. This workshop was an opportunity for a synthesis and a comparison of the different points of view.

Color Confinement And Hadrons - Proceedings Of The International Rcnp Workshop by Hiroshi Toki,Hideo Suganuma,Osamu Miyamura Pdf

The purpose of this workshop is to discuss the various pictures of color confinement and its consequences on the properties of hadrons. We consider color confinement, chiral symmetry breaking, and the properties of QCD at finite temperature, as the fundamental subjects of QCD. We include discussions on the roles of instantons to hadron physics. We also provide ideas of critical experiments at medium to higher energies to identify the mechanism of color confinement and chiral symmetry breaking.

Valerio Filippini devoted his life to physics. His scientific contributions were provided in the OBELIX and FINUDA experiments. The FINUDA experiment collected physics data immediately after the roll-in, thanks to the reliability and simplicity of the on-line system designed and assembled by the physicist. This work is dedicated to him.

Quantum Chromodynamics: Collisions, Confinement And Chaos - Proceedings Of The Workshop by Fried Herbert Martin,Muller Berndt Pdf

During the week of 3-8 June 1996, approximately 83 theoretical (and 2 experimental) physicists interested in the current problems of Quantum Chromodynamics (QCD) gathered at the American University of Paris, France, to present and discuss a total of 59 papers on Collisions, Confinement, and Chaos in QCD. Each of these three subfields filled at least two half-day sessions; and another four half-day sessions were devoted to miscellaneous and interesting papers on Quantum Field Theory (QFT), and especially on the proper construction of high-energy scattering amplitudes.

I Ya Pomeranchuk and Physics at the Turn of the Century by A Berkov,N Narozhny,L Okun Pdf

This conference was dedicated to the memory of the great scientist and teacher I Ya Pomeranchuk on the occasion of his 90th birthday. It was multidisciplinary and covered those fields of physics where Pomeranchuk made outstanding contributions — including high energy physics, quantum field theory, theory of liquid helium, condensed matter physics, physics of electromagnetic processes in matter, and astrophysics. Most of the plenary talks and reports were given by Pomeranchuk's former students and coworkers. The proceedings volume provides an excellent review of some important areas of modern physics and reflects the Pomeranchuk school's contributions to modern physics. It is useful for graduate students, lecturers and researchers in high energy physics, quantum field theory and condensed matter physics. The proceedings have been selected for coverage in: • Index to Scientific & Technical Proceedings® (ISTP® / ISI Proceedings) • Index to Scientific & Technical Proceedings (ISTP CDROM version / ISI Proceedings) Contents:The Life and Legacy of Pomeranchuk (L B Okun)Cosmology at the Turn of Centuries (A D Dolgov)Anisotropic Colored Superfluids (J Hosek)String Models and Hadron Excited States on the Regge Trajectories (G S Sharov)Spherical Spinors on the Sphere (A A Abrikosov, Jr)Induced Quantum Long-Range Interactions in General Relativity (I B Khriplovich & G G Kirilin)Radiation from Chiral Cosmic Strings (E O Babichev & V I Dokuchaev)Massive Primordial Black Holes in Hybrid Inflation (S G Rubin)Metallic Conductivity in Disordered Electron Systems (B N Narozhny)Quasi-Solvable Quantum Many-Body Systems of Inozemtsev Type (T Tanaka)and other papers Readership: Researchers and graduate students in astro-, high-energy, low-temperature, mathematical and theoretical physics.
