In brief, then, this work may be accepted as an account of the personal life of Victoria of the House of Guelph, her domestic relations as child, maiden, wife, mother and widow, her tastes and abilities, her characteristics and her friendships, and at the same time as a history of the British Empire during the period of her long occupancy of the throne.
