Quiet Wisdom in Loud Times by Kayta Curzie Gajdos Pdf

In The Girl Who Played with Fire, the second story of the Larsson trilogy, Lisbeth Salander, the protagonist, is shot by her father and buried by her half-brother. But at dawn, her hand rises from the grave. Stunning! Here it is: the rise of the wounded feminine despite patriarchy’s destructive violence. Quiet Wisdom in Loud Times considers her attempted murder by a brutal father and her resurrection despite it, to be the resounding metaphor of our times: we are in a global crisis of an old order of the patriarchy that wants to maintain the status quo of wealth and power. Yet the feminine principle, so wounded by the violence against it, continues to rise up. The wounded feminine principle refers to both women and men. Women have come a long way since the 1960’s, but that really isn’t the whole story. In fact, the story is not even about women only. It is about men also. It is about something, in fact, beyond both men and women, and that is the rise of the wounded feminine soul energy that needs to be part and parcel of all of us. Why now? We are at a very important time, where there are huge psychic upheavals happening. Right now life is still in patriarchal dominator mode. But this is not about gender. Women can be daughters of a rigid patriarchal structure as much as men can be its sons. Likewise, men, as well as women, can carry the collaborative, partnership model that attends to the feminine, relational aspects of life. Quiet Wisdom in Loud Times explores the rise of the wounded feminine principle, as well as its burials in relation to the environment, money, politics, and the media, with particular attention to the Larsson trilogy. By addressing the rise of the wounded feminine, Quiet Wisdom in Loud Times can help us face courageously the powers that be, while not collapsing into the indifference and apathy that define letting the patriarchy continue its violent way. This book elucidates how in relationship to one another and to the earth, the wounded feminine shall rise.

I Call You Woman: Wisdom Personified by Josiah P. Alexander Pdf

This book came to me like lightning as I woke up one day. I wrote this in a week although the inspiration came from many years of observation. This book is about uncovering the mystery of this entity called "woman" from a Christian perspective. I imagine that even Adam, when he beheld this new creation of God, he was speechless yet was moved by passion: calling her "bone of his bone", and "flesh of his flesh", calling her "woman", because she came out of man. God had a specific and glorious purpose for Eve and we have lost the true meaning behind it, because of the corruption of sin. So we dive deep into the mystery behind what makes a woman tic; even getting into some of the most powerful women in history and identify what exactly made them so powerful. My hope is that through this book, women around the world will find the source of their true self, and to promote a sense of encouragement through unconventional means. It is to also educate from a biblical perspective on the power of wisdom and it's correlation with women.

Ancient Wisdom in Modern Verse by S T Kimbrough Pdf

The wisdom of ancient sages, many of whom predate the Christian era, particularly historians, philosophers, playwrights, and poets of Greece, but also many of the wise early church fathers and mothers continue to be a source of insight into life well lived. This book of poems gleans some of their gems of wisdom and views them through the lens of contemporary language and experience. In addition to the wisdom of early Greek sages, there is here a significant number of quotations from the apostolic fathers and the post-apostolic fathers/mothers: Justin Martyr, Irenaeus of Lyons, Clement of Alexandria, and Origen. From the so-called “Golden Age” of Christianity (fourth to eighth centuries) there are comments from Basil (bishop of Caesarea), Gregory (bishop of Nazianzus), Gregory (bishop of Nyssa), Isidore (bishop of Pelusium), and Maximus the Confessor. From the Latin fathers of the same period there are selections from Tertullian, Augustine (bishop of Hippo), and from the Syriac fathers Ephrem the Syrian and Isaac (bishop of Nineveh). From the desert fathers and mothers there are excerpts from Symeon the New Theologian and Amma Theodora. These poetic paraphrases of ancient wisdom are shared with the hope that they are faithful to these servants of knowledge and faith, and that they will continue to enhance life’s meaning today.

Wisdom for the Soul of Black Folk by Roderick Terry Pdf

Another book of quotations? Indeed there are numerous excellent extant anthologies of quotations, but these tend to be very broad, with a bias toward classical and well-known authors; those works which document the contributions of Black authors have tended to focus on African-Americans, considerable as their output is. Undeniable recognition of this prevalence is reflected in the title of the present volume which pays homage to W. E. B. Du Bois? classic work and in the preponderance of entries from American sources. Nevertheless, effort has been made to cast a wider net to capture under-represented and unfamiliar voices. Khemetic texts preserved in papyri and stelae are the earliest literature to have survived, followed by the writings of North African Romans and Ethiopian philosophers and clerics, and the lately recovered Timbuktu manuscripts from their repositories in the desert sands of Mali. The Transatlantic slave experience gave rise to the slave narratives and abolitionist literature from both sides of the Atlantic, which remained predominant right up to the 20th century. Post-Emancipation under colonial rule and white domination, Black poetry and prose emerged, adhering to prevailing standards, evidenced typically in the work of Phillis Wheatley and the sonnets of Claude McKay. With the Civil Rights and Black Power movements would come iconoclastic expressions of protest and identity. There is a sizeable body of literature by Black authors from Africa and the diaspora who speak to universal values and eternal verities. This anthology of their work focuses on the inner life, on personal development and self-actualization. 3000 quotations have been selected to inspire, enlightenand encourage; they have been arranged in 200 psycho-spiritual categories and in chronological order. The resulting timeline of thought in itself is useful and instructive as it demonstrates very clearly the evolution of consciousness evident in the contemporary thinking on particular subjects. Like its predecessor, Wisdom for the Soul: Five Millennia of Prescriptions for Spiritual Healing, this volume contains a full biographical index and bibliographical references. Much of the material is anthologized here for the first time.

The Greek Search for Wisdom by Michael K. Kellogg Pdf

The philosopher Alfred North Whitehead once said that all of Western philosophy was "but a series of footnotes to Plato." By the same token, one could argue that all of Western civilization is but an extension of the ancient Greek cultural legacy. The Greeks invented tragedy, comedy, lyric poetry, history, philosophy, and democracy. They also made remarkable advances in science, medicine, and mathematics. In the author’s view, what ties this wide-ranging intellectual ferment together is a restless search for wisdom. The author looks at ten outstanding examples of Greek wisdom, offering fresh and engaging portraits of the epic poets (Homer, Hesiod); dramatists (Aeschylus, Sophocles, Euripides, Aristophanes); historians (Herodotus, Thucydides); and philosophers (Plato, Aristotle) against the background of Greek history. In each case he asks what the author has to tell us— regardless of genre—about our place in the world and how we should live our lives. By surveying some of the highest peaks of ancient civilization, the author argues that we gain perspective on the historical terrain that lies below. This book presents an eloquent and convincing case that a study of the Greek classics, as Gustave Flaubert explained, makes us "greater, wiser, purer."
