Radiopharmaceuticals for Sentinel Lymph Node Detection by International Atomic Energy Agency Pdf

"This book summarizes the current status and future trends in the development of radiopharmaceuticals for sentinel lymph node detection (SLND), an essential diagnostic tool for the effective treatment of superficial cancers such as breast tumours and melanoma. The publication covers all current aspects of this diagnostic methodology, including the production of nanocolloidal particles, their biological mechanism of action and relevant clinical applications. It also illustrates the recent developments in the field fuelled by the introduction of molecular imaging agents for SLND and of multimodality optical and radioactive agents. Included in the results presented in this book, are those on the novel generation of SLND radiopharmaceuticals obtained through an IAEA coordinated research project."--Publisher's description.

Atlas of Lymphoscintigraphy and Sentinel Node Mapping by Giuliano Mariani,Sergi Vidal-Sicart,Renato A. Valdés Olmos Pdf

The main goal of the second edition of this book is to update the content on the rapidly growing field of lymphoscintigraphy, a radionuclide-based imaging procedure that provides information on the functional status of the lymphatic system. Although the technique was originally introduced to identify the cause of peripheral edema (i.e., blockage of the venous or lymphatic circulation), more recent and widespread applications include radioguided biopsy of the sentinel lymph node in patients with solid cancers. This procedure is crucial for the adequate planning of oncologic surgery in a growing number of cancers, most notably breast cancer, cutaneous melanoma, head and neck cancers, penile cancer, and cervical cancer. The book focuses on the latest advances in lymphoscintigraphy techniques, including both novel tracers recently approved for clinical use (especially in the field of sentinel lymph node mapping) and the expanding role of hybrid imaging with SPECT/CT – and in sentinel node detection using hybrid tracers (radiolabeled and fluorescent) for dual-signature guidance. Each chapter addresses the clinical application of lymphoscintigraphy in different anatomic areas or disease conditions. After an introductory section concerning the pathophysiology of the specific site/disease, the clinical relevance and impact of lymphoscintigraphy is demonstrated by a collection of richly illustrated teaching cases describing the lymphoscintigraphic patterns most commonly observed, as well as anatomic variants and technical pitfalls. Emphasis is placed on tomographic multimodality imaging. The book gathers contributions by experts in nuclear oncology, who have revised their chapters by updating the didactic material and adding clinical cases. Regarding sentinel lymph node biopsy in particular, a major distinction of this text is the incorporation of the staging guidelines of the American Joint Committee on Cancer (8th edition) into the didactic material.

The Sentinel Lymph Node by Serena Bertozzi,Ambrogio Pietro Londero Pdf

This book gathers an overview of the sentinel lymph node biopsy procedure among different surgical settings (ie: melanoma, breast, thyroid, vulva, endometrium, cervix, colon, anus, liver, gastric, urological and ovarian cancers). This book consists of eighteen chapters; the rationale and the purpose of this technique, which allows adequate lymph node staging while sparing patients from unnecessary complete lymph node dissections and the traditional harmful complications associated with them are discussed.Furthermore, this book outlines the technical aspects of the procedure (which are also accurately covered) from the various intraoperative sentinel node detection techniques to the subsequent sentinel lymph node analysis methods. Some new techniques for node detection, such as the Sentimag® technique (superparamagnetic iron oxide particles detected by a magneto-metric probe) and some new techniques for node analysis, such as the one-step nucleic acid amplification (OSNA), are accurately discussed. Finally, this book provides information also on preoperative lymph node diagnostics and sentinel lymph node biopsy perioperative complications in different nodal districts. In particular, the complications of sentinel node biopsy and for sentinel node dissection are accurately discussed with a particular focus on breast cancer, melanoma and gynecological cancers.

Breast Cancer Essentials by Mahdi Rezai,Mehmet Ali Kocdor,Nuh Zafer Canturk Pdf

Breast cancer is a disease requiring multidisciplinary management including surgery, medical and radiation oncology, radiology, pathology, nuclear medicine, genetic counseling, and psychological support. Each member of the team needs to be updated continuously on breast cancer treatment because of its rapidly changing nature. From the diagnostic procedures to operations and even in metastatic stages of breast cancer, surgeons play an essential part in multidisciplinary teams. After standard surgical options, oncoplastic breast surgery is rapidly becoming one of the most important surgical topics that should be learned by attending surgeons. The idea of writing this book stemmed from a collaboration between the European Academy of Senology (EAoS), European Institute of Oncology (IEO), Euro-Asian Society of Mastology (ESOMA), and SENATURK (Turkish Academy of Senology), which have been working together to promote better training in breast care for professionals. The book offers invaluable support for breast surgeons by covering critical and essential information in senology. It will also greatly benefit the other members of multidisciplinary teams, surgery residents, gynecologists, and plastic and reconstructive surgeons.

Molecular Imaging by Shankar Vallabhajosula Pdf

Radioisotope-based molecular imaging probes provide unprecedented insight into biochemistry and function involved in both normal and disease states of living systems, with unbiased in vivo measurement of regional radiotracer activities offering very high specificity and sensitivity. No other molecular imaging technology including functional magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI) can provide such high sensitivity and specificity at a tracer level. The applications of this technology can be very broad ranging from drug development, pharmacokinetics, clinical investigations, and finally to routine diagnostics in radiology. The design and the development of radiopharmaceuticals for molecular imaging studies using PET/MicroPET or SPECT/MicroSPECT are a unique challenge. This book is intended for a broad audience and written with the main purpose of educating the reader on various aspects including potential clinical utility, limitations of drug development, and regulatory compliance and approvals.
