Random Rhymes (Classic Reprint) by UNKNOWN. AUTHOR Pdf

Excerpt from Random Rhymes Should you ask me why I've written lines like these, bereft of beauty; - Utterly devoid of wisdom, and of cleverness and genius; Naught herein to interest you, to amuse or entertain you - I should answer, I should tell you: Just because it pleased ray fancy! Just because "I had a mind to!" Should you then wax warm and "huffy" at the curtness of my answer, At my reply, curt and churlish; and should ask in accents frigid, In a vein denoting satire: - Do you deem such doggerel poetry? I should calmly make rejoinder: - Was your grandmamma a monkey? Or voire pere a Gila-monster that you thus parade unaided such a doleful lack of sabe? Having courteously responded - to your possible inquiries - I - most humbly and sincerely, write the name bequeathed unto me. "Poet Lariat." Random Rhymes and Odd Numbers (Classic Reprint) by Wallace Irwin Pdf

Excerpt from Random Rhymes and Odd Numbers To The Average Man The Average Man wears the average clothes And the average hat on his head; He eats at a table and sits on a chair And (normally) sleeps on a bed; For he scorns the eccentric, and never would dare To sleep on a table or eat on a chair. The Average Man seeks the comer saloon Omeric refreshment to find; But, shunning the tipple, he wanders to church When he is devoutly inclined - Nor does he expect to find whiskey or dice In the place that is famed for religious advice. The Average Man says the average things And sings just the average songs; He's deucedly fond of the Average Girl, For whom he unceasingly longs - And his vices and virtues, too many to tell, Are oddly at odds - but they average well. Statistics declare that the Average Man Finds the Average Woman and mates; That the Average Family, children all told, Is something like two and three-eights. (Though fractional children disturb and appal, The Average Man isn't worried at all.) About the Publisher Forgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books. Excerpt from Random Rhymes: Being a Collection of Dialect and Other Pieces The gopher gallops madly o'er the field, Then, frozen, stands and simulates a stick, But, stricken with panic, quickly uncongealed, Hies to his hole. And there repeats the trick. The rabbit's fuzzy coat of winter white Is all besmirched with streaks of sombre brown, As if his mad March-frolics overnight Had knocked Dame Nature's signs of Wet Paint down. Random Rhymes by Dennis Travers Pdf

Excerpt from Random Rhymes: From Paris; With Other Poems The following Stanzas do not affect any method or arrangement, and originate altogether in accident. They are addressed to the British Ambassador, as presenting the most obvious mark and point of union between the politics of the two countries; or for any better reason that a sagacious reader can invent. At first, it was the Author's design to print in Paris; but he had mounted Pegasus in a snaffle-bit, and soon found himself extra limites curiarum. Their publication has been accidentally delayed; but it is hazarded, even at this lateness of the season, rather than wait for another year. Poems and Random Rhymes (Classic Reprint) by Joel Alonzo Chandler Pdf

Excerpt from Poems and Random Rhymes But now the end has come: the rest he longed for has been grant ed him. The friend for whom he waited has arrived; and to these whose hearts are heavy: to his mourning family and friends, to his faithful wife, his children of whom he was so fond and proud, there is consolation in the thought, that he has done withthe cares and sor rows of this life He can never suffer more, never feel again the chill of death, never part with those he loved, his heart can break no more, he has shed his last tear and upon his brow is set the wondrous seal of everlasting peace. Notwithstanding his years of sickness he lived nearly to three score years and ten. He lived and loved and suffered as must all mankind; he had his hours of gladness and of tears. In a fragment of a poem written by himself on the sixtieth anniversary of his birth we find his own statement of what his life has been. He says: My life has seen its three score years, With larger share of smiles than tears, With some success, enough to meet: The bitter with a share of sweet. From the far past my memory brings A legion of remembered things, That one by one, have come to me, And through my life been company. My early home, my school-boy days, The Sunday worship, prayer and praise, The healthy labor on the farm, The out-door, nature's pleasant charm. The songs my mother used to sing, Till teardrops to my eyes would spring, The moral lessons, line on line, My father gave me to be mine, And added to his precepts true The strength of good example too. This fragment from his own pen gives us the key to his life and character. He loved truth and justice. His nature was joyous, sincere and affectionate, his mind was instinctively pure, poetic and refined. He was a modest, unassuming and educated gentleman, yet with it all he was a man of strong convictions and character. The splendid courage which sustained him in his last days was characteristic of his life; he defended with fearless fairness and convincing logic the principles which he championed. His strength, however, was not of the aggressive or self-assertive type whose blows strike fire. His hand was never mailed. His weapons left no scars, his satire was not barbed. His strength was that of the swaying, yielding but unbreakable cable. He believed in the fatherhood of God and the brotherhood of man. His creed was the Golden Rule; he believed in the religion of humanity and the reign of law. He believed in the immortality of the human soul', but he believed with another whose language I quote, that the idea of immortality, which like a sea has ebbed and flowed in the human heart, with its countless waves of hope and fear, beating against the shores and rocks of time and fate, was not born of any book, of any religion or of any creed; that it was born of human affection and will continue to ebb and flow beneath the clouds of doubt and darkness as long as love kisses the lips of death; that it is the rainbow hepe, shining upon the tears of grief. Driftwood by A. L. Bixby Pdf

Excerpt from Driftwood: A Modest Collection of Random Rhymes, Written at Odd Times for Odd People The undersigned, yours truly, does not expect the lines recorded herein to meet the approval of the classic ally educated. His literary attainments are not worth mentioning. He never attended anything higher than a common country school, and that but three months of the year for a verv brief term of years. This preface is written that those who read may be prepared for the worst. A preface is not usually read at all. This is unfortunate, as in many instances it would save people the annoyance of reading the book. In our present state of evolutionary civilization there are too many books, and people would be happier Should they read less and think more. Excerpt from Rhymes of the Road and River HE author makes no pretensions and therefore T tenders no apologies for what the reader may find in this book, even though he is aware Of the fact, - unknown perhaps to those Of his friends who pressed him to pub lish' this volume, - that he might, and perhaps will, do better if ever he falls into the publishing pit again. With respect to this book, he washes his hands completely Of, and makes over to several sanguine and enthusiastic friends, all responsibility attached to the act Of issuing from the press what he feels is after all but a gathering together Of random rhymes; many Of them too hastily and thoughtlessly written, all Of them perhaps too care lessly collected, and placed in the hands Of a publisher, to receive from him more attention, whether merited or unmerited, than very probably they Obtained from the.
