Rattlesnakes, Airplanes and Gold by Douglas Lowell Jack Pdf

This book begins with the story of how one American family found their own way into being part of the national pre-occupation with Soviet aggression during the 1950s. They acquired their own bomb-shelter in the form of a 1500-foot long underground tunnel. This tunnel was bored into a mountainside in central Nevada USA for the purpose of mining radio-active Uranium ore. The general idea was that everyone went underground before a nuclear attack. After some time went by, they would then all emerge out into the bright sunshine; start everything back up again; put the coffee on and life would be good...minus the evil Soviet Union! There were so many deadly rattlesnakes in the area, they even considered sending a few of them in to the authorities along with the Uranium orders, just to liven things up a bit! Maybe just the threat of dropping a whole bomb-load of angry rattlesnakes on the Russians would have been enough! Who knows! Before this Nevada adventure they had been gold mining in the snow-filled, rugged mountains of Idaho State. This saga also included, at one point, having to be rescued by the US Airforce! Even before all of that occurred, the head of the family had spent 10 years in Alaska as a mining man and a bush pilot. The whole chapter of his Alaskan arctic adventures reads almost like something out of an Errol Flynn movie! The family then moved to the isolated and remote interior of British Columbia, Canada, where a whole new endeavour in placer- gold mining and pioneer living, was begun. Airplanes and bush pilots became a big part of those stories, as well! This book was written by the oldest son of the family and contains first-hand, exciting, informative and entertaining glimpses into a way of life in North America that is rapidly disappearing. Hopefully, for the older readers, these stories will surely bring back vibrant memories of their own past adventures and for the younger readers, this book will be a call to action to find and live their own dreams. Through it all, this family definitely had their share of: Rattlesnakes, Airplanes and Gold

Alexandria's Gold by Annmarie H. Pearson Pdf

Alexandria Tillie Bush, a twenty-one-year-old college student, went home to visit her parents in Glenwood, New Mexico, on her summer break. During her visit, her grandfather, Len Hudson, once a prospector for gold in the Mogollon Mountains, bequeathed an adventure for Alex to find his buried treasure in the rugged Gila Wilderness. What Len Hudson didn’t realize when he asked his granddaughter to venture into the wilderness was that her life, and everyone who accompanied her, would end up in a dangerous and deadly quest. Alex asked three of her sorority sisters, along with their boyfriends, to accompany her on retrieving her grandfather’s buried gold. Someone was sabotaging her entourage as they traveled on horseback with pack mules into the rocky mountains. Alex’s boyfriend was in a coma from an unusual accident. One of her sorority sisters broke her left leg in a sinister incident, and two of her friends were horrendously mutilated as they tried to help Alex redeem her grandfather’s hidden buried treasure. Who followed Alexandria and her consortium into the Gila Wilderness? And why was he tormenting them? How would they return to the Bush equestrian ranch while on horseback and dragging a travois carrying a coma patient?

Flying Off Rattlesnake Mountain by Sylvia Dyer Turnage Pdf

This narrative non-fiction story follows the life of Micajah Clark Dyer and how he came to have a remarkable theory about flying, the roadblocks he encountered as he toiled to bring his vision to fulfillment, and the ridicule he endured from some of his neighbors because they could not understand him and his passion. It depicts life as it was lived by the North Georgia pioneers who settled the land which had become available in the early 1800s following government removal of the native Indians. It is based on information gleaned from every available source--old newspapers, census reports, family recollections, and historical records, some copies of which are included in the Appendix. Through the story, you get a rare look into ann isolated land and era where no cameras or newspapers existed, yet where a genius--just a poor, uneducated farmer--built and flew a controllable aircraft long before anyone else was able to accomplish that feat.

1921 by Jerry Sloniger Pdf

Slonnie, already an experienced pilot in 1921, is happy to accept a flying job in Mexico after his own airplane blows away, apparently crushing a man suspected of fraud. Is there a connection to his new job? Slonnie likes the idea of being paid to leave town, until he discovers that Tampico can be far more dangerous than a simple airmail contract promised. The Lincoln boy might shrug off murderous Indians and ignore pot shots from the ground but he finds it a lot harder to survive a rigged bullfight. Beach landings at low tide are no problem and he can "bomb" the outlying oil fields with gold payrolls, hitting the target every time. Dubious local lawmen and shady connections back home, keen to sabotage his airplanes, prove trickier. Ultimately, he only manages to escape a firing squad by fleeing in drag. Mexico ought to be perfect flying country for a man who navigates by watching the shadow of a strut on his lower wing, since there are no railroad tracks to follow anyway. Within weeks, however, Slonnie would be happy to catch a train back to Nebraska.

One Ranger Returns by H. Joaquin Jackson,James L. Haley Pdf

A retired Texas lawman shares stories of serial killers, labor strikes, and more, in this sequel to the runaway bestselling memoir One Ranger. No Texas Ranger memoir has captured the public’s imagination like Joaquin Jackson’s One Ranger. Readers thrilled to Jackson’s stories of catching criminals and keeping the peace across a wide swath of the Texas-Mexico border and clamored for more. Now in One Ranger Returns, Jackson reopens his case files to tell more unforgettable stories, while also giving readers a deeply personal view of what being a Texas Ranger has meant to him and his family. Jackson recalls his five-year pursuit of two of America’s most notorious serial killers: Henry Lee Lucas and Ottis Toole. He sets the record straight about the role of the Texas Rangers during the United Farm Workers strike in the Rio Grande Valley in 1966–1967. Jackson also describes the frustration of trying to solve a cold case from 1938, the brutal murder of a mother and daughter in the lonely desert east of Van Horn. He presents a rogue’s gallery of cattle rustlers, drug smugglers, and a teetotaling bootlegger named Tom Bybee, a modest, likeable man who became an ax murderer. And in an eloquent concluding chapter, Jackson pays tribute to the Rangers who have gone before him, as well as those who keep the peace today. “To the good fortune of us all, Jackson is back again, this time with One Ranger Returns. Packed full of compelling accounts of his dealings with smugglers, thieves, murderers, and other lawmen, this long-anticipated sequel promises to rival the original. This man is a true American hero. Don’t miss reading about his adventures.” —Cowboy Magazine
