Chapters are based on recent proceedings of the U. of Nottingham Feed Manufacturers Conference (date not specified). Recent years have seen the introduction of the metabolizable energy (ME) system for poultry as well as the compulsory declaration of the ME value of poultry feeds. Here, a number of chapters are devoted to this topic. In addition, attention is focused on the influence of fiber on digestibility of poultry feeds and the importance of dietary anion- cation balance to the efficiency of production. Recent Developments in Poultry Nutrition 2 by J. Wiseman Pdf

Developments in poultry science continue at an ever-increasing rate. In parallel, poultry production has, from comparatively humble beginnings little more than 50 years ago, emerged to become one of the World's major livestock enterprises with consumption of poultry meat and eggs increasing in virtually every country. Accordingly it is crucial that those involved in all aspects of the industry are kept informed of relevant issues. This volume brings together in one volume all those recent papers which have considered various aspects of poultry science and production which were presented at the annual University of Nottingham Feed Manufacturers' Conferences.

Advances in Poultry Nutrition Research by Amlan Kumar Patra Pdf

Due to the wide acceptance of poultry meat and eggs, poultry farming is the fastest growing global livestock industry. Nutrition plays a vital role in economic production and the maintenance of proper poultry health. Therefore, there is a great need to update balanced nutrient requirements for new breeds, utilize alternative feed resources, evaluate newer feed additives to optimize production while excluding antimicrobial feed additives and maintain overall health. The first section of this book contains six chapters that discuss the utilization of unconventional feeds, nanominerals to reduce mineral proportions in diets, and water intake affected by environmental temperature. The second section contains six chapters that describe proper nutritional management to improve gut health and immunity, the prevention of common diseases, and the amelioration of heat stress in poultry.

The book has detailed information about the recent advances made and future course expected in the field of poultry nutrition. In the past, main focus was on increasing the meat and egg production to meet the ever-increasing demand of animal protein globally. However, futuristic demand in poultry is driven not only by the need to maximize biological and economic performance of birds, but also by societal issues (environmental, welfare, antibiotic growth promoters, traceability and use of genetically modified ingredients). Thus, an attempt has been made to assemble most of the recent scientific research work made, in order to enlighten and update the knowledge of students, teachers, research scholars, and industrialists in the field of poultry nutrition.

Recent Advances in Animal Nutrition by W. Haresign,D.J.A. Cole Pdf

Recent Advances in Animal Nutrition — 1987 focuses on the advancement of techniques, procedures, and processes in animal nutrition. The selection first discusses techniques for identifying the metabolizable energy (ME) content of poultry feeds and the impact of declaration of ME value of poultry feeds. Methods for determining the ME of feeds; formulation of products and declaration of energy; species and ages of birds; and analytical problems are considered. The book also discusses the effects of diarrhea and wet litter in meat poultry; the inclusion of phosphorus in the diet of laying hens; natural products for egg yolk pigmentation; and the addition of enzymes to enhance the utilization of pig and poultry diets. The text also examines the nutrition of goats and cattle; immunity, nutrition, and performance in animal production; and methods of identifying the amino acid requirement of pigs. The book highlights as well the reactions of consumers to meat quality. Consumption trends; changes in eating patterns, retailing, and consumer purchasing patterns; and fatness and eating quality are considered. The book is a good source of information for readers wanting to study animal nutrition.

Achieving sustainable production of poultry meat Volume 2 by Todd Applegate Pdf

To meet growing demand, the FAO has estimated that world poultry production needs to grow by 2-3% per year to 2030. Much of the increase in output already achieved has been as a result of improvements in commercial breeds combined with rearing in more intensive production systems. However, more intensive systems have increased the risk of transmission of animal diseases and zoonoses. Consumer expectations of sensory and nutritional quality have never been higher. At the same time consumers are more concerned about the environmental impact of poultry production as well as animal welfare. Drawing on an international range of expertise, this book reviews research on poultry breeding and nutrition. The first part of the book reviews how advances in genetics have impacted developments in breeding. Part 2 discusses ways of optimising poultry nutrition to ensure quality and sustainability in poultry meat production. Chapters review the use of feedstuffs and ingredients such as amino acids, enzymes and probiotics as well as feed formulation and safety. Achieving sustainable production of poultry meat Volume 2: Breeding and nutrition will be a standard reference for poultry and food scientists in universities, government and other research centres and companies involved in poultry production. It is accompanied by two further volumes which review safety, quality and sustainability as well as poultry health and welfare.

Recent Advances in Animal Nutrition by W. Haresign,D.J.A. Cole Pdf

Recent Advances in Animal Nutrition 1989 focuses on the compositions of animal feeds. The book first discusses legislation and its implication for the feed compounder, including marketing of feeds, medicated feeds, and feed additives. The text highlights residues of veterinary drugs in animal products. Licensing of veterinary products; assessment of the safety of veterinary medicines; and development of performance-enhancing drugs are discussed. The book also looks at the vitamin requirements and allowances for poultry; effect of pellet quality on the performance of meat birds; and nutrition of rabbits. The text then discusses the prediction of the nutritive value of silage. History of silage energy evaluation; energy prediction and energy prediction relationships; and nutrient response based systems of rationing are described. The book focuses also on the effect of silage additives and wilting on animal performance; optimizing compound feed use in dairy cows with high intakes of silage; and nutrition of lambs. The text then looks at amino acid nutrition of pigs and poultry and etiology of diarrhea in pigs and pre-ruminants. The selection is vital for readers interested in conducting studies on the compositions of animal feeds.

Amino Acids in Nutrition and Health by Guoyao Wu Pdf

Amino acids (AAs) are not only building blocks of protein, but are also signalling molecules as well as regulators of gene expression and the protein phosphorylation cascade. Additionally, AAs are key precursors for syntheses of hormones and low-molecular weight nitrogenous substances with each having enormous biological importance. For example, physiological concentrations of AA metabolites (e.g., nitric oxide, polyamines, glutathione, taurine, thyroid hormones, and serotonin) are required for cell functions. Growing evidence shows that humans and animals have dietary requirements for all proteinogenic AAs. Mammals, birds and fish also have species- and age-dependent needs for some AA-related substances. However, elevated levels of other products (e.g., ammonia, homocysteine, H2S, and asymmetric dimethylarginine) are pathogenic factors for neurological disorders, oxidative stress, and cardiovascular disease. Thus, optimal amounts of AAs and their ratios in diets and circulation are crucial for whole body homeostasis and health. Adequate provision of one or a mixture of functional AAs or metabolites may be beneficial for ameliorating health problems at various stages of the life cycle (e.g., fetal growth restriction, neonatal morbidity and mortality, weaning-associated intestinal dysfunction and wasting syndrome, obesity, diabetes, cardiovascular disease, the metabolic syndrome, and infertility). Dietary supplementation of these nutrients can also optimize the efficiency of metabolic transformations to enhance muscle growth, milk production, and athletic performance, while preventing excess fat deposition and reducing adiposity. Therefore, functional AAs hold great promise in improving the growth, health and well-being of individuals.
