Island of Redemption by Chris Reynolds Pdf

The Shack, with a Castaway twist, wrapped up in the conundrum of Life of Pi. A glimpse of hope for this troubled world. (DaVinci Film Festival) No boat could have survived the storm that left Mark Lambert missing and presumed dead. Landing on an uninhabited island, far from any shipping lanes, and far from hope, solitude strips away all the things he once thought important. After a powerful hurricane strikes the island, he is surprised to discover an ancient grotto with high waterfalls cascading into a crystal-blue lake. And swimming in the middle of the hollow is a beautiful young woman. Is she real or simply a figment of his imagination? After being alone for over five years, he does not care. Each day he returns to the grotto and each day she is there. Never revealing who she is or where she goes, she becomes his teacher, philosopher, and spiritual guide. By dismantling what was once a secular worldview and polishing it into a lens as seen through the eyes of God, her insights about life, death, and the world we live in move Mark along a path of transformation. Until one day, she announces that her work is done and that he is ready to fulfill his destiny. The timing of her exit coincides with the arrival of familiar adventurers who believe the island holds an enormous cache of buried treasure. Rescued, ready to face the next chapter in his life, Mark fights to hold on to the lessons learned. When recalling past conversations with his enigmatic companion, clues she left him lead to the greatest discovery in modern history and along the way, makes him one of the richest men in the world. But how will he handle this great power? He must decide if he will revert to his secular worldview or use the gifts God has given him to make the world a better place. The journey Mark pursues reveals that on the road of destiny, there are no ordinary lives.

The Bizarre World of Reality Television by Stuart Lenig Pdf

How do reality television programs shape our view of the world and what we perceive as real and normal? This book explores the bizarre and highly controversial world of reality television, including its early history, wide variety of subject matter, and social implications. In recent decades, reality television shows ranging from Keeping up with the Kardashians to Duck Dynasty have become increasingly popular. Why are these "unscripted" programs irresistible to millions of viewers? And what does the nearly universal success of reality shows say about American culture? This book covers more than 100 major and influential reality programs past and present, discussing the origins and past of reality programming, the contemporary social and economic conditions that led to the rise of reality shows, and the ways in which the most successful shows achieve popularity with both male and female demographics or appeal to specific, targeted niche audiences. The text addresses reality TV within five, easy-to-identify content categories: competition shows, relationship/love-interest shows, real people or alternative lifestyle and culture shows, transformation shows, and international programming. By examining modern reality television, a topic of great interest for a wide variety of readers, this book also discusses cultural and social norms in the United States, including materialism, unrealistic beauty ideals, gender roles and stereotypes in society, dynamics of personal relationships, teenage lifestyles and issues, and the branding of people for financial gain and wider viewership.

Everyday Encounters with the Lord by Tony Elder Pdf

This inspiring daily devotional will challenge you to grow in your relationship with the Lord while allowing Him to transform you into the Christlike person He calls you to be. Enhance your personal moments with God each day by being reminded of vital biblical truths which can be found imbedded in our everyday experiences. Hear God speaking through interactions with grandchildren, nature, the day’s headlines, holiday gatherings, and all the other common occurrences in life. Let these readings point you to further study in God’s Word, lead you to seeking God in prayer, and guide you into greater service for His kingdom. Here’s an excerpt from one of those daily messages: “Last weekend when I first saw a news report about a missing husband and wife, I thought it was an unfortunate and potentially tragic situation. But when I realized I actually knew the couple – that we had been fellow church members with this nice lady many years ago - the story really hit home. So I kept checking the news throughout the day to receive updates on the search for these missing persons. Isn’t that the way it often goes? We may hear about certain people, their situations and predicaments. We may respond with some degree of slight interest to genuine concern. But when it involves somebody we know, our own family, or ourselves, it really gets our attention and has a bigger impact on us. It reminds me of the time the prophet Nathan told King David about a man who had a great number of flocks and herds...Once David realized this story was about him, it deeply affected him, leading to heartfelt confession and repentance. Maybe there are some stories, facts, and truths in the Bible which we need to take more personally than we do. The general statements may affect us to some degree, but not as much as they should. In many cases we need to realize it’s talking about me and you. When the Bible declares that God so loved the world that He sent His Son, we should take it personally. God loves you. God cared enough about you to take such action. You are the one... When God’s Word calls believers to love others and be holy, He’s talking to you. When He commissions His followers to be His witnesses, to be lights in a dark world, and to share the gospel, He is sending you. You are the one. If God’s Word isn’t moving us and affecting us very deeply, maybe it’s because we’re looking at it as more of a textbook to be studied rather than as a personal letter to be received. Read the Bible, see yourself in its truths, and seek to hear what God wants to say to you.”

Rebellion, Reconstruction, and Redemption, 1861–1893 by Stephen R. Wise,Lawrence S. Rowland Pdf

The continued history of Beaufort County, South Carolina, during and following the Civil War In Rebellion, Reconstruction, and Redemption, 1861-1893, the second of three volumes on the history of Beaufort County, Stephen R. Wise and Lawrence S. Rowland offer details about the district from 1861 to 1893, which influenced the development of the South Carolina and the nation. During a span of thirty years the region was transformed by the crucible of war from a wealthy, slave-based white oligarchy to a county where former slaves dominated a new, radically democratic political economy. This volume begins where volume I concluded, the November 1861 Union capture and occupation of the Sea Islands clustered around Port Royal Sound, and the Confederate retreat and re-entrenchment on Beaufort District's mainland, where they fended off federal attacks for three and a half years and vainly attempted to maintain their pre-war life. In addition to chronicling numerous military actions that revolutionized warfare, Wise and Rowland offer an original, sophisticated study of the famous Port Royal Experiment in which United States military officers, government officials, civilian northerners, African American soldiers, and liberated slaves transformed the Union-occupied corner of the Palmetto State into a laboratory for liberty and a working model of the post-Civil War New South. The revolution wrought by Union victory and the political and social Reconstruction of South Carolina was followed by a counterrevolution called Redemption, the organized campaign of Southern whites, defeated in the war, to regain supremacy over African Americans. While former slave-owning, anti-black "Redeemers" took control of mainland Beaufort County, they were thwarted on the Sea Islands, where African Americans retained power and kept reaction at bay. By 1893, elements of both the New and Old South coexisted uneasily side by side as the old Beaufort District was divided into Beaufort and Hampton counties. The Democratic mainland reverted to an agricultural-based economy while the Republican Sea Islands and the town of Beaufort underwent an economic boom based on the phosphate mining industry and the new commercial port in the lowcountry town of Port Royal.

For a Child with Spirit by Colleen Reynolds Pdf

"In our hearts we know this life of hurry-scurry does not serve us well. Nor does it serve our children who are developmentally unprepared for life in overdrive. Our children have simple needs: To be loved, to be listened to, and to be directed and protected. We are their models, however imperfect. This is a powerful and awesome responsibility!" Author Colleen Reynolds combines her years of teaching and school counseling experience to examine the often-chaotic life of the average American family. In today's fast-paced society with its ever-increasing demands on our time and energy, parents are rushing from one place to another, striving to earn a living, create a home, and have a life. But our hectic lifestyle is taking a profound toll on our children. For a Child with Spirit offers a no-nonsense approach to help parents take control. Reynolds suggests several ways parents can manage their time and emotions as role models to their children. With these insights, family time can improve, as well as the lives of children-at home, at school, and in the community.

The Lie About the Truck by Sallie Tisdale Pdf

"In a world of fake news and rampant conspiracy theories, the nature of truth has increasingly blurry borders. In this clever and timely cultural commentary, award-winning author Sallie Tisdale tackles this issue by framing it in a familiar way--reality TV, particularly the long-running CBS show Survivor. With humor and in-depth superfan analysis, Tisdale explores the distinction between suspended disbelief and true authenticity both in how we watch shows like Survivor, and in how we perceive the world around us."--
