Perseverance by Asante Salam,Margaret Wheatley Pdf

Perseverance is designed to offer guidance, challenge, clarity and consolation to all the people doing their work day - by - day. The topics are not the usual inspiring, feel good, rah - rah messages. Instead, Wheatley focuses on the situations, feelings, and challenges that can, over time, cause us to give up or lose our way. Perseverance is a discipline - it's a day - by - day decision not to give up. Therefore, we have to notice the moments when we feel lost or overwhelmed or betrayed or exhausted and note how we respond to them. And we have to notice the rewarding times, when we experience the joy of working together on something hard but worthwhile, when we realize we've made a small difference. Each topic is a brief essay, meant to be read as needed. (The book is not intended to be read through all at once.) You can thumb through the book and find what you need or what attracts you in the moment. Every essay names a behavior or dynamic, puts it into a broader human or timeless perspective, and offers ways for the reader to either live with or transcend that dynamic. The reader is also challenged by the direct voice of the book. Wheatley wants people to be able to see themselves, their situation, and to assume responsibility for changing the situation or their reaction to it if it's one that troubles them. (There deliberately are no examples of other people - the reader is the example; their personal experience is the only case material.) The content (essays and quotes) is drawn from many spiritual traditions and diverse cultures. The book is deeply grounded spiritually and also quite inclusive - accessing human experience and wisdom from many sources. Both this grounding and inclusiveness support the essential message - human being throughout time and history have persevered. We're just the most recent ones to face these challenges.

Perseverance in Trials by Carlo Maria Martini Pdf

The consoling words which Jesus speaks to his disciples just before his Pasison ("You have stood by me in my trials") are a reminder to us that Christian life, like the life of human beings generally, is marked by trials. For this reason, the author has chosen the Book of Job as a primary text for reflection, although other passages of the Old and New Testaments are also offered for meditation.

Reflections on Perseverance by Jean Burden Pdf

Reflections on Perseverance: Growing Righteousness In Trials is a Christian women's 40 day daily devotional. The author, Jean B, Burden writes, "There's a thought that rolls around in my brain quite often these days: why do we separate life's actions and events into the secular and the sacred? Don't you think we do that? Sunday is sacred, but work is secular. Prayer time is sacred, but house cleaning is secular. Well, I want to call this the secular-sacred antithesis, and it really has no place in the Christian journey. An antithesis is a set of ideas that go against each other, and yet, if Jesus is our model, nothing about Him went against any other part of Himself. Everything He did and said and thought and taught was sacred. Isn't it time in this challenging world that we, as His followers, realized that everything we do should be approached from a sacred perspective? Persevering against obstacles must be a sacred experience, and every day should hold sacred moments, even those that we have traditionally deemed secular. It's all about perspective. Through this book I challenge you to rethink your daily journey . . . the challenging days and the ordinary ones. Look at each one through the purple lens of the royalty of Jesus Christ. Let this beautiful lens color everything you think and therefore, everything you do with the lens of King Jesus.

The Ordinary Leader by Randy Grieser Pdf

An ordinary leader is someone who leads a small organization or team that is doing great things. They manage the majority of the world’s workforce, but they don’t lead large corporations or big government agencies. Ordinary leaders are rarely written about in books or quoted in magazines. They are, however, important. Maybe not globally, but in their own realm of influence, their leadership makes a difference. The term “ordinary” is also used to highlight the belief that no one ever arrives as a leader. In fact, if someone thinks of themselves as extraordinary, they will not be a very effective leader. Author Randy Grieser presents 10 key insights for building and leading a thriving organization. These are the principles he identifies as instrumental to success as a leader. Writing for leaders everywhere, he inspires, motivates, and explains how to make each insight a reality in your organization. Become a more passionate, productive, and visionary leader by exploring and embracing these 10 insights: Motivation and Employee Engagement: Organizations flourish when employees go beyond what is expected of them. Passion: A passionate, inspired workforce begins with the leader. Vision: Visionary leaders energize and inspire people to work towards a future goal. Self-Awareness: Knowing your strengths and weaknesses is vital for leading any organization. Talent and Team Selection: The right employees must, first and foremost, fit the workplace culture. Organizational Health: Employees are most engaged when leaders are committed to the emotional well-being of everyone. Productivity: Focusing on how and what things get done increases efficiency. Creativity and Innovation: Building processes for innovation puts creativity to work. Delegation: As you free up your time, you will also increase employee engagement. Self-Improvement: Personal development makes all the other principles easier to achieve. Also included are the perspectives of 10 ordinary leaders from a range of professions, survey feedback from over 1,700 leaders and employees, and a resource section that provides detailed guidance and examples for putting these ideas into action.

Hope is the Thing by B. J. Hollars Pdf

In March 2020, as a pandemic began to ravage our world, writer and professor B. J. Hollars started a collaborative writing project to bridge the emotional challenges created by our physical distancing. Drawing upon Emily Dickinson’s famous poem “‘Hope’ is the thing with feathers,” Hollars called on Wisconsinites to reflect on their own glimpses of hope in the era of COVID-19. The call resulted in an avalanche of submissions, each reflecting on hope’s ability to persist and flourish, even in the darkest times. As the one hundred essays and poems gathered here demonstrate, hope comes in many forms: a dad dance, a birth plan, an unblemished banana, a visit from a neighborhood dog, the revival of an old tradition, empathy. The contributors are racially, geographically, and culturally diverse, representing a rough cross section of Wisconsin voices, from truck driver to poet laureate, from middle school student to octogenarian, from small business owner to seasoned writer. The result is a book-length exploration of the depth and range of hope experienced in times of crisis, as well as an important record of what Wisconsinites were facing and feeling through these historic times.

Kept by the Power of God by I. Howard Marshall Pdf

This is a very controversial subject which disturbs many people. οIf you do get disturbed it will be because of the emotion usually surrounding the subject of "eternal security." οIf you get upset it will NOT be caused by the manner in which Dr. Marshall has presented the subject. It is the contention of the author that there is biblical truth in both the Calvinistic and the Arminian position concerning this volatile subject, and that each camp should candidly recognize the value of the other's positions. John Wesley once wrote, "The truth of the Gospel is within a hairsbreadth of Calvinism." Quite a concession for the chief spokesman of Arminianism! Dr. I. Howard Marshall echoes the contention of Wesley, and then goes even beyond it. "The full Arminian position is as much open to error as is extreme Calvinism. My aim is to reach beyond the Calvinist-Arminian controversy to a position which is biblical."

Reflections from Earth Orbit by Winston E. Scott Pdf

In spite of the recent loss of the space shuttle Columbia, there are those who believe in the seemingly routine nature of space flight. The author's experiences however confirm the tremendous curiosity and overall fascination the world maintains for flying in space. As a public speaker, he talks regularly to thousands of people of all ages and from every walk of life. These audience members universally are inquisitive about life in space and the makeup of the individuals who form the corps of con-temporary space explorers. Reflections From Earth Orbit is not your typical 'how do you go to the bathroom in space' book. It is a book about life as told through the memories, or reflections, of the author navy Captain Winston Scott. These reflections were prompted by events that occurred during two space shuttle missions as a NASA astronaut aboard the space shuttles Endeavour and Columbia. It has been written that Captain Scott's journey to the stars is a testament to perseverance and vision. Reflections is his attempt to share some of the experiences that drove him to overcome his life's obstacles and become one of a select few who journeyed beyond the bonds of earth into outer space. Through Reflections the author takes the reader into space. He gives vivid descriptions of life in space emphasising the everyday aspects of living with which the average, everyday person is curious and to which he or she can relate. As his memory is jogged by an event in space, Captain Scott relates a fascinating story with lessons learned from his past. He has succeeded in capturing the essence of life in space and sharing the space flight experience with the reader. Although not every chapter follows this exact format, e.g. Where Have You Gone Sky King, Reflections will entertain, educate, and inspire a general audience. In other words, one does not have to be a space enthusiast to enjoy 'Reflections'.

Celebrating the Easter Vigil by Rupert Berger,Hans Hollerweger Pdf

The revised Roman Calendar emphasizes the unity of the Easter Triduum (Holy Thursday evening to Easter Sunday evening) and considers the Easter Vigil to be the center of the three-day commemoration. But more yet can be done on a pastoral and liturgical level to make the Easter Vigil take root in the life of the people and in the traditions and new customs of the Church. The contributors to this work articulate the extraordinary possibilities latent in the Vigil for celebrating communal life and deepening spiritual understanding. They also provide a specific plan for a more experiential celebration of this "feast of feasts."
