Refractive Surgery by J. Bradley Randleman Pdf

Refractive Surgery: An Interactive Case-Based Approach presents all of the necessary refractive surgery material to make an informed decision regarding diagnosis and management plans. Rather than utilizing the standard organization of most books, where major points are first introduced and then explained through a series of writings and references, this book relies on the clinical decision-making process involved with treating refractive surgery patients. Refractive Surgery: An Interactive Case-Based Approach by Dr. J. Bradley Randleman builds upon foundational initial chapters through the case presentations and focused case discussions, encompassing the major topics in refractive surgery today. For each case, the critical question is simply, “what data in this chart is the most critical to consider when evaluating this patient for surgery?” Refractive Surgery: An Interactive Case-Based Approach is unique in its format. Specifically, the book facilitates active learning by forcing the reader to think through a series of questions surrounding each patient scenario. This active learning not only facilitates better recall of the information presented but also mimics the actual physician-to-patient clinical experience, making this book more relevant than other routine refractive surgery books. Bonus! This dynamic learning tool is also supplemented by interactive online video material to further the learning experience. Enhance the clinical decision-making process by watching the videos and then answering a series of questions that lead to the conclusion of each scenario. By challenging the reader to perform the thinking and decision making up-front, and then providing some guidance on the most salient concepts for each case scenario presented along with resources to gain a deeper understanding of the most complex concepts, Refractive Surgery: An Interactive Case-Based Approach engages more in the learning process and thereby allowing to absorb and retain significantly more information to apply to patient care and the education of others. Ophthalmologists, residents, fellows, resident and fellowship educators, who want to update their refractive surgery knowledge base will appreciate the unique format and style of Refractive Surgery: An Interactive Case-Based Approach.

Cataract and Refractive Surgery by Thomas Kohnen (Dr. med.),Douglas D. Koch Pdf

The topic of the second volume of the series in "Essentials in Ophthalmology" is cataract and refractive surgery, a realm of ophthalmic care that has undergone revolutionary changes in the past 10 years. Worldwide, the removal of the opaque crystalline lens is the most frequently performed surgical intervention in the human body, and refractive surgery encompasses an increasing array of procedures with rapidly growing surgical volumes. The goal of the editors of this book has been to provide up-to-date clinically relevant overviews and to highlight the most interesting fields of research and controversy. The first half of the book focuses on new cataract surgical techniques and devices, including topical anaesthesia, small incision cataract surgery, modern intraocular lenses and ophthalmic viscosurgical devices. Special attention is devoted to difficult situations, such as mature, uveitic and pediatric cataracts, and to the prevention and management of complications. The second half of the book describes current and evolving modalities - both corneal and lenticular - to correct human refractive errors. Particular emphasis is placed on topics related to quality of vision, such as wavefront technology, measuring quality of vision, and issues in pupil measurement. Many of these topics pertain also to cataract surgery, indicating the merging of technologies that is occurring in these two major ophthalmic subspecialties.

Cornea and Refractive Surgery by New Orleans Academy of Ophthalmology. Session Pdf

Preface From Friday morning, February 21, 1997, through Sunday, February 23, at noon, members and guests of the New Orleans Academy of Ophthalmology heard presentations and discussions of the latest techniques and trends in the study of corneal diseases and surgery, including refractive surgery. This was the subject of the. Forty- Sixth Annual Symposium of the Academy. The speakers comprised a group of eight clinician-surgeons with a wealth of experience and a well-respected talent for innovation in their areas of expertise. From trends in bacterial keratitis to ocular surface disease and healing to the latest opinions on anterior segment reconstruction and refractive surgery, the topics covered were diverse and timely. Especially interesting were the discussions generated by the panelists' presentations and by the question and answer sessions. The demands placed on the speakers at the Annual Meeting of the New Orleans Academy of Ophthalmology are large and multiple, and probably greater than for most other educational conferences. Each speaker commits to preparing several lectures and usually a panel discussion for presentation, and all speakers are asked to participate in the panel discussions and question and answer periods. The topics are chosen by the program committee, and we sometimes ask speakers to present a subject that is not in their area of research or primary interest. This usually means researching and preparing a completely new lecture. And last, but not least, all speakers commit to preparing chapters and completing panel discussions for this book. And these duties are added to already busy practice and speaking schedules; in fact, the speakers are selected because they have new ideas and useful things to say that everyone wishes to hear. Not all invited speakers are up to the task, but this year we were fortunate that all of our first choices accepted the challenge. Because of the rapidity of change in both refractive surgery and anterior segment treatment, we have attempted to provide the transactions as rapidly as possible. This urgency has again added more demands on the time and energy of the speakers. And this group of authors has responded admirably to our requests. Because of their efforts the reader can use this publication as an update and as a gauge to his/her present practice guidelines. I wish to thank all eight speaker/authors for their efforts on behalf of the New Orleans Academy of Ophthalmology and the readers of this publication. The information presented here was put on paper by the authors, but we readers are the ones who benefit. In addition, they have added to a forty-year tradition of publications by the New Orleans Academy of Ophthalmology. I hope that readers consider this book as timely and as useful as previous issues of the Transactions. I also wish to thank Monica L. Monica, MD, President of the NOAO, and the Executive Committee for supporting the program and this publication. As always, a considerable amount of time and effort came from Emily Busby, executive secretary of the NOAO, and my thanks go to her, as well. Lastly, Marguerite McDonald, MD, deserves much credit in the organization of the meeting and the program. Her knowledge and experience were truly indispensable. Daniel A. Long, MD

Refractive Eye Surgery by Leo D. Bores, MD Pdf

Refractive Eye Surgery, Second Edition is a comprehensive text on the history, evolution, and current status of refractive eye surgery, written entirely by one author, a pioneer in the field. Surgical methods and patient workup are included in separate chapters describing each surgical technique. Among the surgeries described are lamellar, laser, and intraocular refractive surgery, radial keratotomy, surgery for astigmatism, and scleral shortening. The book discusses complications, shortcomings of techniques, and results of surgery. Extensive color illustrations describing the techniques, as well as the optical properties of the cornea and its surface topography make this a valuable surgical atlas. Methods of measuring and analyzing the corneal surface, the derivation of the corneal shape factor, and basic topics such as ametropia, myopia, and astigmatism are also covered.
