Despised and Rejected by A. T. Fitzroy Pdf

This novel, written by Rose Allatini under the pseudonym A.T. Fitzroy, is a landmark in gay and lesbian literature, and in the literature of pacifism. It was unavailable to readers for more than half of the 20th century: the British government seized the unsold copies in 1918 and arrested and prosecuted author Allatini and publisher C.W. Daniel under the Defence of the Realm Act. This was a dangerous book on several counts. Although the author was prosecuted for the political content of the book as detrimental to war morale, the trial judge also took pains to denounce the book's advocacy of homosexual rights. Just two decades after the Oscar Wilde trial, gay men and lesbians were still not allowed to plead equality. In a Wellsian peroration near the end of the book, reminiscent of that author's "The Food of the Gods, " and certainly influenced too by Edward Carpenter's "Towards Democracy, " Allatini stakes a claim for a gay and lesbian consciousness as part of humankind's evolution, demanding not only tolerance, but acceptance. Allatini equates the gentleness and empathy of gay men and women with an inherent antipathy toward the destructive stupidity of war. The British penal system seems to have agreed with her in part, declaring pacifists and homosexual persons as criminal bodies, to be isolated and punished. It seems no coincidence that the sentences meted out to men who would not fight was the same as that accorded to convicted homosexuals: imprisonment, hard labor, and abuse by jailers. Every pacifist was an Oscar Wilde. Writing before women had the right to vote in Great Britain, Allatini offers a free-spirited lesbian heroine who suffers a painful self-acceptance. She depicts brave women who, because there are fewer other choices available to them, become helpers and companions to pacifists; on the other side, she skewers the conventional women who are complicit in the war fever that sent their sons to meaningless deaths in the trenches. Closer to Dickens than to Virginia Woolf in method, Allatini nonetheless has the ability to dissect the patriotism-crazed society around her. She works her plot to convey in strong terms that, for the middle-class English mother, the price of unthinking patriotism was the dreaded telegraph from the front, or the return of the amputated soldier. When Allatini enters the narration in the guise of Dennis Blackwood, she conveys his torment, and his much more tortured self-acceptance, in a convincing way. The all-too-British reticence, evasions, panic, and finally, self-awareness make us see that whoever "made her understand," was an extraordinary confidante. This book might have saved lives, had it been available in the pre-Stonewall decades. Despised and Rejected was reprinted in 1975 as part of the series Homosexuality: Lesbians and Gay Men in Society, History and Literature, under the editorship of Jonathan Ned Katz. After one more reprint in the 1980s, the book seems to have dropped from sight again.

Rejected Princesses by Jason Porath Pdf

Blending the iconoclastic feminism of The Notorious RBG and the confident irreverence of Go the F**ck to Sleep, a brazen and empowering illustrated collection that celebrates inspirational badass women throughout history, based on the popular Tumblr blog. Well-behaved women seldom make history. Good thing these women are far from well behaved . . . Illustrated in a contemporary animation style, Rejected Princesses turns the ubiquitous "pretty pink princess" stereotype portrayed in movies, and on endless toys, books, and tutus on its head, paying homage instead to an awesome collection of strong, fierce, and yes, sometimes weird, women: warrior queens, soldiers, villains, spies, revolutionaries, and more who refused to behave and meekly accept their place. An entertaining mix of biography, imagery, and humor written in a fresh, young, and riotous voice, this thoroughly researched exploration salutes these awesome women drawn from both historical and fantastical realms, including real life, literature, mythology, and folklore. Each profile features an eye-catching image of both heroic and villainous women in command from across history and around the world, from a princess-cum-pirate in fifth century Denmark, to a rebel preacher in 1630s Boston, to a bloodthirsty Hungarian countess, and a former prostitute who commanded a fleet of more than 70,000 men on China’s seas.

Cockney Reject by Jeff Turner Pdf

Jeff Turner was raised in Custom House in the East End of London, with seven siblings to share a three-bedroom council house. When the Sex Pistols' God Save the Queen hit, his brother Mickey picked up a guitar and Jeff picked up a microphone, and together they stormed the music scene as The Cockney Rejects. The Rejects stood for being young, working class, and not taking anything from anyone, resulting in aggression and violence being the main staple at their shows. However, the madness couldn't last forever, and as chaos at the gigs spiraled out of control, so did the band. Jeff was left dazed and penniless, and here tells his story.

They Still Reject Jesus by Ronald Echols Pdf

A universal question in both the religious and non-religious communities has always been whether or not Jesus is God. Subsequently, the theological question becomes: If He is God, how can this be reconciled or understood with respect to one's belief in ONE GOD (monotheism)? In plain language, this book uses the Scriptures in a systematic theological approach to expose the Trinitarian error and those of other religions that reject Jesus as being the complete fullness of the Godhead. In this book, "They Still Reject Jesus," the "Oneness Doctrine" is contrasted to that of a "3 Person God Doctrine." Ronald Echols Sr. has been a Sunday School superintendent and teacher of the Apostolic Faith for many years. His educational background includes a Bachelor's degree and Master of Science in the medical field. He plans on pursuing a doctorate in Biblical Studies. He comes from a family in which his father was a church pastor and an uncle and other relatives being bishops. He has a diverse background as being a supervisor in hospitals, business owner and CEO, inventor with patents and a writer of religious orations and poems. He has long had a passion for seeking understanding and truth of the Scriptures and imparting this to others. His greatest challenge in writing this book lies in his realization that he has feet of clay.

Rejected, Shamed, and Blamed by Rebecca C. Mandeville, MFT Pdf

Therapist Recommended: Family scapegoating is an insidious form of "invisible" abuse that is difficult to recognize. It is therefore critical that adult survivors understand what type of abuse they are trying to recover from. In Rejected, Shamed, and Blamed, Licensed Psychotherapist and Family Systems expert Rebecca C. Mandeville uses her research findings on what she named family scapegoating abuse (FSA) to help survivors recognize and release the damaging 'scapegoat' narrative associated with the (dysfunctional) family 'identified patient' role. This 2nd revision includes additional recovery suggestions and resources. Also suitable for concerned friends and clinicians, In these pages you'll discover: - The FSA Self-Assessment Test - How to recognize and identify family scapegoating abuse (FSA) signs and symptoms - Why scapegoated individuals have difficulty recognizing they are being abused - How complex trauma (C-PTSD), betrayal trauma, and toxic shame impede FSA recovery - How intergenerational trauma and false narratives fuel family scapegoating dynamics - Why the family 'Empath' can end up scapegoated - Strategies to reduce fawning behaviors and realign with your 'true self' - Recommended resources and therapy modalities for FSA recovery Rejected, Shamed, and Blamed was a 2021 Eric Hoffer Book Awards Finalist Editorial Reviews: This much needed work by Rebecca C. Mandeville provides a comprehensive introduction to the subject of family scapegoating and serves as a starting point for survivor awareness and further research for professionals if they want to begin filling in the gaps for this misunderstood and under-served community. It is dense and informative, but with a writing style that makes it easy to read. This book also serves an important niche within Family Systems literature, as it was written for those who were assigned the role of 'family scapegoat' within their dysfunctional family system. It adeptly addresses with specificity the abuses and emotional injuries scapegoated adults experience, which are distinct, and often more damaging than those associated with other dysfunctional family roles. - Lisa Marie Campagnoli, Certified Trauma Recovery Coach, RYT-200 Recommended reading for those suffering in the family scapegoat role as well as Mental Health professionals. - Shellie Krick, MSW This is an excellent book for patients or practitioners. The author shares her extensive experience working with and studying toxic families and how to recover from the experience. This book is a must have for anyone treating those from dysfunctional families or family members themselves. - Melissa Petty, LMSW Life Changing Read! I am 64 y/o and have had an adult lifetime of therapy, counseling, spiritual guidance, support groups, and/or self-help reading to try and put to words or find definition of what I knew I felt, or why I responded the way I did, or how I could 'see' how I was 'viewed' or treated by family. This little book - with its easy read and understandability - answered so many of my questions and gave me more insight into the why's of it all than any other resource, ever. I am more at peace with myself after reading this book - which I will re-read and, am sure, refer to often in the future - than I ever have been. I seriously feel I can now move forward with new comprehension of my family's dynamics and sense of self. I HIGHLY recommend this book; can't say enough good things about it. From the Author: "Scapegoating in any social system is a dehumanizing process of 'othering'. When you are the target of scapegoating in your family-of-origin, the consequences to your mental and emotional health can be severe, including the development of complex trauma (C-PTSD) symptoms. This introductory guide's purpose is to help the reader determine if they are in the 'family scapegoat' role while educating on family scapegoating dynamics and the devastating consequences of being 'rejected, shamed, and blamed' by the people who were supposed to love and care for them the most." Rebecca C. Mandeville is a licensed Marriage, Family Therapist, Certified Complex Trauma Professional, and recognized Family Systems expert. She has over 20 years experience in treating adult survivors of dysfunctional family abuse in both clinical and private practice settings. She coined the term family scapegoating abuse (FSA) while researching family scapegoating's impact on the targeted child / adult child while Core Faculty at the Institute of Transpersonal Psychology. She is also a pioneer in identifying the overlapping symptoms of family scapegoating abuse (FSA), complex trauma (C-PTSD), betrayal trauma, and the devastating impact and effects of multigenerational trauma on adult survivors of dysfunctional, narcissistic, or abusive family systems.
