Religious Education and for the Healing of the Church (Classic Reprint) by William Allen Lambert Pdf

Excerpt from Religious Education and for the Healing of the Church It seems strange that Luther in neither of his treatises on the establishment of public schools speaks specifically of the religious education of the child. His catechisms were not written for the school, but for 'pastors and teachers, ' as the preface to the Small Catechism says, and for 'house-fathers, ' as the headings of the various parts say. Even Gerhard looks to the ministers and not to the schools for the religious training of the children. Furthermore, Luther nowhere tells how instruction is to help the religious development of the child. On one point he is very clear: no one can be compelled to believe. (buchwald, 3, The Catechism itself is to teach and the children are to learn from it what is right and what is wrong among those with whom the children intend to dwell and live. For he who wants to live in a city must know and observe the law of the city whose benefits he desires to enjoy, whether he believe or be at heart a rascal. (ibid. The translation of this passage given in the Church Book and in the English Book of Concord is not accurate, but attempts to avoid a theological, and partly a linguistic difficulty. The Latin translation should have made both clear.) About the Publisher Forgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books. Divine Healing Sermons (Classic Reprint) by Aimee Semple McPherson Pdf

Excerpt from Divine Healing Sermons Unto the sick and the suffering, whose weary, thorn-pierced feet have trod affliction's rugged path: unto the weak who have need of strength, and unto the strong whose heart would fain be skilled in faith to render succor to the weak, this book is loving ly dedicated in the Name of Him who gave Himself for us and by Whose stripes we are made whole. Day and night I have but to close these eyes of mine to see again, through misty tears, the drawn, white, pain-blanched faces of the afflicted of my people. One moment I am all a-weeping for the multitudes shut outside the crowded doors and for the thousands we could never reach, though we toiled day and night. The Faith of a Quaker (Classic Reprint) by John William Graham Pdf

Excerpt from The Faith of a Quaker There arise also the insistent questions which beset all mystics, and which in Quakerism demanded a corporate, instead of an individual, answer. Was the light infallible? Was the claim to it an assumption of spiritual exaltation. About the Publisher Forgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books. The Religious Education of an American Citizen (Classic Reprint) by Francis Greenwood Peabody Pdf

Excerpt from The Religious Education of an American Citizen The purpose of this series of loosely con nected chapters is to call attention to some of the influences which direct, and some of the qualities which mark, the religious education of an American citizen. The normal life of an American proceeds from childhood to youth and from youth to manhood, through the shift ing environments of home, school, college, busi ness, citizenship and Church; and at each step he is met by conditions and demands which may either promote or obstruct his religious educa tion. What, then, are the circumstances which are likely to be most favorable for a healthy minded and progressive religious experience? What can be done by parents, teachers, em ployers, statesmen, or pastors, to reinforce American citizenship with a rational religious life? What are the special obstacles which American civilization offers to religious prog ress? What are the traits of the American character on which teachers of religion may most confidently depend? Training the Devotional Life (Classic Reprint) by Luther Allan Weigle Pdf

Excerpt from Training the Devotional Life The Sunday school has begun to share in this better understanding of the aims and methods of education. Religion too may be best taught by practising it. To instruction, therefore, the Sunday school has added worship and service as essential elements of its educational program. This is not to imply a relative neglect of the intellectual side of its work. The Sunday school of today should afford more thorough instruction than the ungraded school of a generation ago. But Its program is more complete. It provides for expression as well as for impression. It seeks definitely and systematically to develop within its pupils the active attitudes and habits of Christian living and Christian worship. This book deals with the elementary principles of Chris tian worship, and undertakes to set forth some of the methods whereby children may be trained in such worship, to the upbuilding of their devotional life. It is addressed primarily to Sunday-school teachers, and aims to help them prepare themselves for this aspect of their work. But, just because training in Christian worship is peculiarly a matter in which home and church must unite with the school, it addresses, itself quite as directly to parents and to pastors. In no phase of religious education is there more need and larger opportunity for team-work than in this. About the Publisher Forgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books.
