Reminiscing! by Robert Martin Pdf

Reminiscing! is a book that reminds the writer that no man or woman is an island to themselves. There were people and events that worked into his life that shaped him into the person of whom he is today. There is a before picture of a person and an after picture of individuals. Reminiscing! allowed the writer to look back on his life and consider some of the most important things that he might have learned but did not see the situations as learning experiences. The writer took a memory look at the most important people that impacted his life in such a way that he can now appreciate them. He learned to be thankful. The writer learned from past experiences. The writer expressed his desire and the importance to remember and to celebrate the people and the lessons of which he has learned and came to know. The many challenges that the writer faced and all the ingredients worked to produce the finishing product. The Jesus that he did not know or understand very well is currently known by the writer in a relationship that brings him the greatest joy. To him, Jesus is awesome!

The Art and Science of Reminiscing by Jeffrey D. Webster,Barbara K. Haight Pdf

Although recognition of reminiscing as a potentially adaptive process can be traced back over 30 years to the seminal work of Robert Butler as discussed in the Foreword, there has been little effort to consolidate the work and paint a complete picture of reminiscing as an entity. Here, reminiscing is presented as a multi-disciplinary topic, examining the theory of, and research on, reminiscing. The book also discusses the different ways of conducting life-review interviews and explores therapeutic applications.; Contributors to this book, many of whom are pioneers and leading figures in the field, discuss and elaborate their latest thinking and research findings from multiple perspectives. The volume's strength derives from its multi-disciplinary nursing, psychiatry, psychology, gerontology, community advocacy and multinational Australia, Canada, England, Sweden and the United States treatment. James Birren, Irene Burnside, and Phillipe Cappeliez are a few of the eminent scholars authoring this volume.

Reminiscing in Tranquility of a Time Long Gone By by K. B. Chandra Raj Pdf

In this book, a sequel to Mining My Own Life the author makes whole the omissions of several riveting episodes in his life working for a living in three continents. Growing up in Malaysia under brutal Japanese occupation; the chilling circumstances in Sri Lanka the land of his forbears that propelled him to seek employment in the West African states of Sierra Leone and Liberia which changed the contours of his familys life permanently ; the crushing process he had to involuntarily subject himself in order to obtain United States citizenship and from a position of clinical detachment he confronts point blank the twin scourges the pernicious caste system (that is pervasive in his community) and the blankness of the color blind ideology in the United States of America. To the long avowed esoteric doctrines of Karma, Maktub and Historical Determinism and to the precept of Thy Will Be Done the author deftly puts a human face by relating them to his own enlightening personal experiences which have had an enduring impact on his life.

Reminiscing by Hyuna Steward Pdf

After 30 years of family medical practice in Monroe, Michigan, Dr. Hyuna Steward’s husband, Tom, revived the tradition of traveling to their sister country, Canada. During the last ten years, they rode the Via Rail train from Windsor to London, Toronto, and Montreal. These were enchanting junctures of their lives—walking Montreal’s cobblestone streets, and attending theatre performances in Toronto and London, Ontario. Dr. Steward earned a third-degree black belt in Choi Kwang Do at Monroe Martial Arts in Monroe, Michigan. Eight years of five-days-a-week practice prevailed upon receiving her black belt. She even broke her left fifth finger during her karate practice. Hyuna learned perseverance, integrity, and humility while she trained to be a martial artist. Hyuna and Tom have been married for 35 years and have four sons; they were closely involved in their sons’ education, sports, and recreational pursuits. On July fourth weekends, they would drive to Niagara Falls to watch the spectacular fall view. Two of their sons were married in 2017. In May 2019, Tom and Hyuna entered into grandparenthood. They look forward to seeing their grandson, Landon James, laughing and scampering around the house. It has been Hyuna’s passion to write a book to express her gratitude and to remember these momentous events in her life.

Family Narratives and the Development of an Autobiographical Self by Robyn Fivush Pdf

Stories are central to our world. We form our families, our communities, and our nations through stories. It is through stories of our everyday experiences that each of us constructs an autobiographical self, a narrative identity, that confers a sense of coherence and meaning to our individual lives. In this volume, Robyn Fivush describes how this deeply personal autobiographical self is socially and culturally constructed. Family Narratives and the Development of an Autobiographical Self demonstrates that, through participating in family reminiscing, in which adults help children learn the forms and functions of talking about the past, young children come to understand and evaluate their experiences, and create a sense of self defined through individual and family stories that provide an anchor for understanding self, others, and the world. Fivush draws on three decades of research, from her own lab and from others, to demonstrate the critical role that family stories and family storytelling play in child development and outcome. This volume is essential reading for students and researchers interested in psychology, human development, and family studies.

Autobiographical Memory by Charles P. Thompson,Douglas J. Herrmann,Darryl Bruce,J. Don Read,David G. Payne Pdf

The organization of the first Society for Applied Research in Memory and Cognition (SARMAC) conference centered around two specifically identifiable research topics -- autobiographical memory and eyewitness memory. These two areas -- long-time staples on the menu of investigators of memory in more natural settings -- differ on a variety of dimensions, perhaps most notably in their specific goals for scientific inquiry and application. For many questions about memory and cognition that are of interest to scientific psychology, there have been historical as well as rather arbitrary reasons for their assignment to the autobiographical or eyewitness memory fields. Perhaps as a result of differing historical orientations, the first volume's seven autobiographical memory chapters focus upon the qualities or types of recall from research participants, whereas the seven chapters in the eyewitness memory volume generally focus upon the quantity (a concern for completeness) and accuracy of recall. This interest in the ultimate end-product and its application within the legal process in general encourages eyewitness memory investigators to modify their testing procedures continually in an attempt to gain even more information from participants about an event. Indeed, several of the eyewitness memory chapters reflect such attempts. Beyond the specific contributions of each chapter to the literature on autobiographical and eyewitness memory, the editors hope that the reader will come away with some general observations: * the autobiographical and eyewitness memory fields are thriving; * these two fields are likely to remain center stage in the further investigation of memory in natural contexts; * although the autobiographical and eyewitness memory chapters have been segregated in these two volumes, the separation is often more arbitrary than real and connections between the two areas abound; * the two research traditions are entirely mindful of fundamental laboratory methods, research, and theory -- sometimes drawing their research inspirations from that quarter; and * the two fields -- though driven largely by everyday memory concerns -- can contribute to a more basic understanding of memory at both an empirical and a theoretical level.

The Triangle Shirtwaist Factory Fire In 1911 my great maternal aunt was caught in that fire when she was a teenager. She barely survived. Her entire back was burned, and she could not bend her body. I never saw her sit. Her sister was in the Plague of 1918. The Plague of 1918 The Influenza Plague in Europe killed my maternal grandmother in Poland. My mother was only seven years old at the time. The Klinghoffer Murder In 1985 Leon Klinghoffer was murdered on the Achille Lauro ship. He was shot in his wheelchair and thrown overboard. He was my fathers cousin. Reminiscing Through the Years was written to enlighten Sandys children and grandchildren about her origin and her experiences through the years.
