Public health has become an essential area of focus in terms of the way it operates, the services offered, policies, and more. The Research Anthology on Public Health Services, Policies, and Education presents a view of public health through an analysis of healthcare services and delivery; policies in terms of policymaking, ethics, and governance; as well as the way society is educated on public health affairs. The chapters will cover a wide range of issues such as healthcare policy, health literacy, healthcare reform, accessibility, public welfare, and more. This book is essential for public health officials, government officials, policymakers, teachers, medical professionals, health agencies and organizations, professionals, researchers, academics, practitioners, and students interested in the current state of public health and the improvement of public health services and policies for the future.

Elderly People, Their Medicines, and Their Doctors by Ann Cartwright,Christopher Smith Pdf

In the late 1980s, an increasing proportion of all prescribed medicines went to people over 65 years of age, not only because they constituted a growing sector of the population but also because their consumption rate, unlike that of younger people was increasing. This increase was therefore a matter for widespread concern which had until now been largely speculative, as no recent national survey had focused on this issue. Originally published in 1988, Ann Cartwright and Christopher Smith looked at the medicines prescribed for, and taken by, a nationally representative sample of elderly people. The experiences and views of both patients (elderly people) and professionals (general practitioners) are examined and related. What is revealed is how much, and how little GPs knew about the social circumstances and medicine taking of their elderly patients. Evaluation of all the prescribed medicines taken shows the extent of elderly people’s knowledge of their medication and identifies duplications, potentially harmful interactions, contraindications, and inappropriate dosages. Recommendations for action to be taken by doctors, pharmacists, medical educators, and elderly people themselves made this book essential reading for all those concerned with the health and welfare of elderly people at the time.

Medication Management in Care of Older People is an accessible introduction to medication management and its role in the management of older people and their medicines. It addresses key issues in medication management, evaluates professional roles and clinical practice initiatives and explores healthcare policy and prescribing initiatives. This text explores the biology and neurobiology of ageing, pathological conditions such as Parkinson’s and Alzheimer’s disease, medication errors, issues of concordance, long term conditions and the older person, the principles of applied pharmacology and its relationship to older people. Medication Management in Care of Older People will be of interest to health care professionals who either have an interest in medication management and older people, or who are qualified independent or supplementary prescribers, and will enable them to comprehend the principles of applied pharmacology and medication management to enable them to use this knowledge in their daily practice. Illustrates the current issues, concerns and approaches used to manage older people and their medicines. Builds on pertinent current policy and research initiatives including the NSF for Older People and 'Building a Safer NHS for Patients: the role of medication safety' Each chapter features case studies, learning outcomes and implications for practice “I found this book to be interesting and highly relevant to OT practice. I would recommend this book as a learning resource to inform, review and support clinical therapy practice. Occupational Therapists could well appreciate many of the contributory factors relating to medication problems with Older People, using this resource could raise own standards, but also assist with reducing the negative impacts of medication issues on older people.” - Sarah Montgomery, A&E Occupational Therapist and Communications Officer, (COT Specialist Section Older People), London, UK
