Repetition in the English Language is the repeating of a word, within a sentence in order to PROVIDE EMPHASIS. ‘Repetition of words’ could be classified into many groups based on the placement of the words in a sentence. Different terms have been devised to denote different kinds of repetitions. Some of these terms are as follows: Adnominatio, Conduplicatio, Diacope, Epistrophe, Mesodiplosis, Palilogia, Polyptoton, Symploce, etc. Not going into the details of these ‘hard-to-pronounce’ terms, I have covered only the most popular patterns of ‘Repetition of words’ in this book. Structure (1) ---- Word + and + Word This pattern is generally used to show ‘continuation or repetition of an activity, or ‘presence of many things or people of the same kind’. 1. -- She asked and asked about the money. 2a. -- Stars, planets, and galaxies emerged and evolved billions and billions of years ago. 2b. -- They have got billions and billions of dollars lying around in vaults. 3. -- There has been campaign and campaign against us for a very long time. 4. -- Wastage of water must be discouraged and discouraged. 5. -- Workers dug and dug the road. 6. -- We have eras and eras coming. 7. -- He called after her, “Where are you going?” She went further and further. 8a. -- His confidence grew and grew. 8b. -- Once he started telling family about his challenge, the support just grew and grew. 9a. -- ‘How long did the match last?’ ‘Oh, hours and hours’ 9b. -- Oats are a complex carbohydrate which means they will fuel your body for hours and hours. 10. -- Merit and merit alone can be criteria. 11. -- The road went on for miles and miles. 12. -- My travel plan was mired and mired in utter confusion. 13. -- He has nurtured and nurtured his reputation as a master tactician. 14. -- They played and played cards all night. NOTE: (A). ‘Again and again’ [meaning -- many times] She was wiping her tears again and again. Many people do not repeat their mistakes again and again. (B). ‘By and by’ [meaning -- after a short period; before long; soon | eventually] By and by you will make your deficiency. The hours just kept on going by and by. (C). ‘Half and half’ [meaning -- in equal parts] We are lucky that it is affordable rent, and sharing half and half helps (D). ‘Less and less’ [meaning -- continuing to become smaller] We are having less and less snow each year. Old people seem to sleep less and less actually. (E). ‘More and more’ [meaning -- continuing to become larger in amount or number] You always ask for more and more. More and more girls are giving priority to their careers. (F). ‘Neck and neck’ [meaning -- level with somebody in competition] Democrats and Republicans were neck and neck on 50 seats. These two candidates are neck and neck in recent polls. NOTE: Great Stress— Word + And + Word + And + Word 1a. -- He just smacked him with a ruler again and again and again. 1b. -- If at first, you don't succeed, try again and again and again. 2. -- Their pain and the anger grew and grew and grew, 3. -- They are paying him millions and millions, and more millions. 4. -- There is a huge problem in this town and it has been going on and on and on.

Branding with Powerful Stories by Greg Stone Pdf

Whether you are branding your company, your product, your service, or yourself, learn to boost the power of your story and convey a compelling message in any setting by incorporating villains, victims, and heroes. Compelling stories exalt, motivate, and acculturate every worker in an enterprise. They also attract customers and media alike. Imagine an elderly man, snowed in, unable to shop for groceries until a supermarket comes to the rescue and delivers his food. The story of this company going out of its way to help a customer in need will resonate not only with consumers but also with employees. This book explains not just how to tell a captivating story, but also what elements—namely, villains, victims, and heroes—it should include in the first place. This approach is based on the notion that in business messaging, the villains may just be your best friends. The "villains" are simply any problems that cause pain, discomfort, or extra expense for customers, who are in effect the "victims." As for the "heroes," they are best illustrated by the supermarket going beyond expectations. Who in business wouldn't want to emulate that company? If your products and services offer real solutions to customers' predicaments, there is nothing more powerful than communicating that message and making sure your potential customers remember it.

Rhetorical Investigations by Leslie Gardner Pdf

Rhetorical analysis of texts exposes plausible ‘truths’ and presumptions implied by the writer’s presentation. In this volume, Leslie Gardner analyses the master psychologist Jung, who claimed to be expert at uncovering personal, psychological truths. In his theoretical writings, his rhetoric reveals philosophical ramifications which bear strong similarities to those of the rhetorician of the 18th century, Italian philosopher Giambattista Vico. This book is driven by an interest in arguing that it is possible to read Jung’s works easily enough when you have a set of precepts to go by. The paradox of scientific discovery being set out in Jung’s grotesque and arcane imagery begins to seem a startling and legitimate psychology for the 21st century. It is time Jungian studies took on this most appropriate examination of analytical psychology. Bringing Vico to bear directly on Jung’s thought has only been cursorily attempted before although much alluded to. We find indeed that some of Jung’s ideas derive directly from rhetorical theory, and this volume proposes to highlight Jung’s innovations, and bring him into forefront of contemporary psychological thought. Rhetorical Investigations will be of interest to analysts and academics, and also to those studying philosophy and psychology.

Blood Rose Rebellion by Rosalyn Eves Pdf

"A magical tale unlike anything you've read before." —Bustle "[A] richly imagined 19th-century historical fantasy." —EW, A- The thrilling first book in a YA fantasy trilogy for fans of Red Queen. In a world where social prestige derives from a trifecta of blood, money, and magic, one girl has the ability to break the spell that holds the social order in place. Sixteen-year-old Anna Arden is barred from society by a defect of blood. Though her family is part of the Luminate, powerful users of magic, she is Barren, unable to perform the simplest spells. Anna would do anything to belong. But her fate takes another course when, after inadvertently breaking her sister’s debutante spell—an important chance for a highborn young woman to show her prowess with magic—Anna finds herself exiled to her family’s once powerful but now crumbling native Hungary. Her life might well be over. In Hungary, Anna discovers that nothing is quite as it seems. Not the people around her, from her aloof cousin Noémi to the fierce and handsome Romani Gábor. Not the society she’s known all her life, for discontent with the Luminate is sweeping the land. And not her lack of magic. Isolated from the only world she cares about, Anna still can’t seem to stop herself from breaking spells. As rebellion spreads across the region, Anna’s unique ability becomes the catalyst everyone is seeking. In the company of nobles, revolutionaries, and Romani, Anna must choose: deny her unique power and cling to the life she’s always wanted, or embrace her ability and change that world forever. “A fast-paced historical fantasy full of magic, romance, and adventure!”—JESSICA DAY GEORGE, New York Times bestselling author of Silver in the Blood
