The Resurrection Plant: Your Pain Is Your Path To Greatness by C. J. Ricard Pdf

If, like Carlos Ricard, your past is riddled with trauma, you may have learned to tough it out and to pretend you have it all together. Meanwhile, you're hiding the mental and emotional mess inside, and your life is more controlled by fear than anyone knows. That's a lonely place, and what's worse, it's a place where you can't access your potential for growth and change. Instead, you keep tripping yourself up, leading to failure, heartache, and hitting bottom over and over again. It's easy to believe you're stuck where you are, that you're doomed to this life. But Ricard's bracing and inspiring story proves it's not true. What if your ticket to freedom were found within the very walls that imprison you? What if hidden within the experiences that plague you lies the cure to save you? Would you risk the chance of dying many more deaths to earn the right to live the life you were meant for? The Resurrection Plant tells of one man's mission to see clearly the truth about his troubled past and to reach the source of his self-destructive behaviors. Ricard began life as a homeless immigrant, spent time on the streets gangbanging, and wound up in prison. Though the streets, his schools, his workplaces, and sometimes his own family told him he was worthless, he held to a belief that he deserved better. After dying many deaths, he fought his way from the hood to the woods, from the ghetto to greatness.

Resurrection of Pain by Sailendra Nath Datta Pdf

This is the first book of English poems of the new poet written for the international readers. He has often been obsessed by the myriad facets of life, particularly the sad and sordid ones, which continually torment him. He cannot forget the pain emanating from his inner soul, reminding him of his ineffective poetic urge to remedy some of the ills inflicting mankind as a whole. He is often haunted by a traditional saying or universal wisdom or a catchy idea, and develops his poem to a conclusion. Sometimes, it seems, he has deviated from his main theme. But, actually, he has a definite frame of mind, which leads his poem to a natural growth. His treatment of a poem has been as simple as can be, with a plain variety of language and imagery, although used to a minimum. What has enriched his poetry is his philosophical content, apparent or hidden. Actually, what moves him throughout is his feelings and experience of different sorts of pains he has undergone during his past and which still bubble up to remind him of their existence. His experiences of pleasures and joy are very few but enable him endure woes and worries of life. With this background in mind, the readers may proceed to enjoy a new kind of poetry in the following pages.

Hurting Yet Whole by Liuan Huska Pdf

What if the things we most fear about our bodies—our vulnerability to illness and pain—are exactly the places where God meets us most fully? As Liuan Huska went through years of chronic pain, she wondered why God seemed absent and questioned some of the common assumptions about healing. What do we do when our bodies don't work the way they should? What is healing, when one has a chronic illness? Can we still be whole when our bodies suffer? The Christian story speaks to our experiences of pain and illness. In the embodiment of Jesus' life, we see an embrace of the body and all of the discomfort and sufferings of being human. Countering a Gnosticism that pits body against spirit, Huska takes us on a journey of exploring how healing is not an escape from the limits of the body, but becoming whole as souls in bodies and bodies with souls. As chronic pain forces us to pay attention to our bodies' vulnerability, we come to embrace the fullness of our broken yet beautiful bodies. She helps us redefine what it means to find healing and wholeness even in the midst of ongoing pain.

Resurrection of Innocence: The Life of Nuta Miller by Nuta Miller,David Miller Pdf

Childhood trauma and abuse have repercussions that can last a lifetime, interfering with our ability to trust, hope, and love, forever casting a shadow over our perception of the world ... and of ourselves. What’s worse is that so many people will spend their entire lives suffering in silence, afraid, ashamed, and feeling alone even when surrounded by family or friends Nuta Miller was one of those people for most of her life. Having suffered horribly at the hands of her mother and step-father, she felt desperately alone—helpless and voiceless. Fortunately, prior to those abusive years, her grandparents had instilled in her a strong foundation of love and generosity, and a deep and abiding faith that helped her to survive. With their support, she was able to recognize and embrace the blessings that inevitably came her way. So she was able to become the sort of mother and protector for her own children that she wished she’d had herself. Though everyone’s story is different, by sharing we exemplify the road to recovery for others to follow. Offering hope and perseverance, Resurrection of Innocence hopes to show that we are never truly alone.

Resurrection in Mark's Literary-Historical Perspective by Paul Fullmer Pdf

Through a careful reading of several ancient texts such as Chariton's Callirhoë, Fullmer identifies an ancient storytelling convention with roots in the Homeric tradition in which narratives of death and revival accentuate significant points in a story. In Mark's Gospel, resurrection narratives accentuate the power of Jesus' ministry (Mark 5:21-43) as well as the ironic disloyalty of Jesus' disciples as their failure is first assured (Mark 9:14-29) and later realized (Mark 16:1-18). The reader of this study will come to appreciate how the irony of the Gospel - a literary feature that is prominent in novelistic literature - is furthered by a novelistic application of the resurrection theme. These observations affirm an identification of the genre of the Gospel as novelistic literature. The study also examines themes of death and revival in texts of the Hebrew Bible, revealing a recurrent constellation of motifs. In these texts, Fullmer convincingly traces a Prophetic resurrection topos with characteristics that are compared to an Epic resurrection topos identified in the Homeric tradition. He then demonstrates how the two topoi merge in later, novelistic texts of Hellenistic Judaism such as the Gospel of Mark, witnessing to a widespread amalgamation of cultures that characterizes the Hellenistic period. This study supports a growing appreciation of the ethnic hybridity of the context that produced Mark's Gospel, contributing to the work of scholars who question an often overdrawn dichotomy between Jewish and Greek culture in the Hellenistic period. Moreover, the significant influence of epic, non-biblical traditions upon the Gospel becomes manifest without an assertion of direct dependence upon Homeric epic. Overall, the study provides a model for the examination of specific themes of the Gospel in light of related ancient literature which enhances modern understanding and appreciation of Mark's story.

A Biblical Understanding of Pain by John Timmerman Pdf

In A Biblical Understanding of Pain: Its Reasons and Realities, John Timmerman examines six different sources of pain, each with its own chapter of description and biblical response. These include physical pain, the pain of mental illness, spiritual pain, emotional pain, the pain of the Prodigal, and the pain of memories. Additional chapters explore the sources of pain, the denial of pain, and the question of God's omnipotence and why he doesn't just remove pain. Rather than setting forth sets of rules governing our response to pain, Professor Timmerman narrates actual life events and examples, and then examines biblical responses to these. The result is a study that feels lived in.

What Does the Resurrection of Jesus Christ Mean to You and Me? by Arthur Chingwaru Pdf

If you’re a Christian or considering becoming one, this book will encourage you in your faith and help you prepare for eternal life. Arthur Chingwaru reminds readers that when you are a Christian, you’re not beng asked to follow some abstract idea but rather a person who is alive. Jesus Christ came to us to provide an example of who to follow. He taught us valuable lessons, such as why youngsters should obey their parents and how to resist Satan. He told us that everyone who would follow Him must carry their cross—and He also carried His own cross to Calvary. When we are faced with hard times, we must realize that He also went through pain. Likewise, if we are faced with death, He also went through it, but the good news is, He rose from the dead, meaning that we will all rise from death if we have faith in Him. What Jesus died for was not for Himself, but for you and me, which bears remembering in a corrupt world where we are constantly tempted to go astray.

Art and Faith by Makoto Fujimura Pdf

From a world-renowned painter, an exploration of creativity’s quintessential—and often overlooked—role in the spiritual life “Makoto Fujimura’s art and writings have been a true inspiration to me. In this luminous book, he addresses the question of art and faith and their reconciliation with a quiet and moving eloquence.”—Martin Scorsese “[An] elegant treatise . . . Fujimura’s sensitive, evocative theology will appeal to believers interested in the role religion can play in the creation of art.”—Publishers Weekly Conceived over thirty years of painting and creating in his studio, this book is Makoto Fujimura’s broad and deep exploration of creativity and the spiritual aspects of “making.” What he does in the studio is theological work as much as it is aesthetic work. In between pouring precious, pulverized minerals onto handmade paper to create the prismatic, refractive surfaces of his art, he comes into the quiet space in the studio, in a discipline of awareness, waiting, prayer, and praise. Ranging from the Bible to T. S. Eliot, and from Mark Rothko to Japanese Kintsugi technique, he shows how unless we are making something, we cannot know the depth of God’s being and God’s grace permeating our lives. This poignant and beautiful book offers the perspective of, in Christian Wiman’s words, “an accidental theologian,” one who comes to spiritual questions always through the prism of art.
