Rethinking Regional Attractiveness in the New Global Environment by ORGANISATION FOR ECONOMIC CO-OPERATION AND DEVELOPMENT.,Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development Pdf

The Rethinking Regional Attractiveness in the New Global Environment report highlights lessons learned from multiple regional case studies from five EU countries (Ireland, Italy, Portugal, Spain and Sweden), additional work with Latin American and Caribbean regions, and a series of webinars and one-on-one dialogues on rethinking regional attractiveness. The OECD's innovative multidimensional approach to assessing regional attractiveness considers global engagement beyond international connections and economic factors alone. The methodology considers more than 50 indicators to develop regional attractiveness profiles covering six domains of attractiveness: economic attraction, connectedness, visitor appeal, natural environment, resident well-being, and land-use and housing. The report helps regional and national policy makers to understand how individual regions fare in a new global environment that continues to deal with the impacts of the COVID-19 crisis, compounded by the consequences of Russia's war of aggression against Ukraine and existing megatrends - all of which produce asymmetric impacts within and between countries and regions - and identify the policy levers available to enhance their attractiveness to the international target groups of investors, talent, and visitors. It also considers the need to co-ordinate across levels of government, across policy fields, and with private stakeholders, and highlights good practices to implement regional attractiveness policies

Rethinking Contemporary Indian Polity by Dr Shalini Saxena Pdf

This book talks about the Indian political regime after 2014. It explores the changing meaning of diaspora and reflects upon the nature and features of Diaspora Policy of Prime Minister Modi and its impact on the changing perception about India in the world. The book also gives a glimpse of gender based perspective on how security of the environment promotes gender security. It also explores the adequate options existing for women to participate in order to improve human security in current political regime. A review of social welfare policies of current government is another highlight of this book; the present Government’s social welfare schemes aim to make programmes and schemes more efficient and give priority to empowerment of the vulnerable sections of the society including women, children and the marginalised. It also emphasises on the fact that Indian federalism is conducive to the social structure of India which has a plural and multicultural socio-cultural split. Furthermore it explains about how India followed a geopolitical code of regional ‘brothers’, a foreign policy belief system. The issue of Maoism and failure of the policy is also discussed in this tome. There is an emphasis on National Security which symbolizes a sense of confidence that the government of a sovereign state is able to instill into its citizenry through its proactive approach and actions. Moreover there is an enhanced focus on the increasingly localised economic development, which is a global concern, and currently gaining momentum.

European Regional Development by Paweł Churski,Tomasz Herodowicz,Barbara Konecka-Szydłowska,Robert Perdał Pdf

This book offers a comprehensive overview of contemporary issues of regional development. It places particular emphasis on its socio-economic and socio-political determinants which accompany the problem of existing and ever-widening differences in the level of regional development in various parts of Europe. In order to diagnose the scale of those differences and to indicate the main forces behind the divergence of development, the authors propose an original systematisation of regional development factors, drawing attention to the need to consider them within the framework of present-day socio-economic megatrends. The proposed approach to the development factors is also used for the author's operationalisation of the concept of territorial capital, which is at the centre of regional place-based policy. The wide spatial aspect of the analysis (national and local) and its extensive temporal scope (2004-2019) yields unique results and creates an important element of added value for this book, which shows the regularities of the process of regional development in Europe at three spatial levels - pan-European, national and intra-regional. Furthermore, it indicates the challenges faced by regionalists who attempt to carry out research on different territorial levels with a diverse number of units (205 EU regions, 16 Polish voivodeships, 2,478 Polish local units) and extended observation periods (2004-2017). The solutions proposed by the authors, who show the potential of overcoming the barriers resulting from limited access to complete and comparable statistical data series, should be inspiring for many researchers. The unique results of direct research carried out on a large sample of respondents and entrepreneurs via diverse field research techniques constitute a valuable source of information on local conditions that impact contemporary development processes in less developed regions. Their value is even greater because they were carried out in a unique laboratory created by the authors for testing the regularity of formation and impact of socio-economic development factors in various locally determined conditions of this process. It consists of purposefully selected test units (LAU2). Located in a less developed region, they represent all growth types and functional test units identified in the course of the research. Consequently, the results obtained may be generalised and applied to other areas showing similar features of territorial capital. The monograph is addressed primarily to a wide group of regionalists connected with economic and social sciences as well as to practitioners involved in the implementation of development policies at various levels.
