RFID Applied by Jerry Banks,Manuel A. Pachano,Les G. Thompson,David Hanny Pdf

Radio frequency identification or RFID is a broad-based technology that impacts business and society. With the rapid expansion of the use of this technology in everything from consumer purchases to security ID tags, to tracking bird migration, there is very little information available in book form that targets the widest range of the potential market. But this book is different! Where most of the books available cover specific technical underpinnings of RFID or specific segments of the market, this co-authored book by both academic and industry professionals, provides a broad background on the technology and the various applications of RFID around the world. Coverage is mainly non-technical, more business related for the broadest user base, however there are sections that step into the technical aspects for advanced, more technical readers.

After meticulous deliberation, the Program C- mittee, which was chaired by Michel Abdalla and David Pointcheval, selected 32 submissions for presentation in the academic track and these are the articles that are included in this volume. Additionally, a few other submissions were selected for presentation in the non-archival industrial track. The best student paper was awarded to Ayman Jarrous for his paper “Secure Hamming Distance Based Computation and Its Applications,” co-authoredwith Benny Pinkas. The review process was run using the iChair software, written by Thomas Baigneres and Matthieu Finiasz from EPFL, LASEC, Switzerland and we are indebted to them for letting us use their software. The programalso included four invited talks in addition to the academicand industrial tracks.

The Value of RFID by Alp Ustundag Pdf

RFID technology presents a great potential for creating competitive advantage. By automating and simplifying data collection, it lets users more accurately track assets and monitor key indicators, which in turn gives greater visibility to the operations. However, the benefits received from this technology will be determined by how well it is integrated with the business processes and overall information flow. Because of the fact that the decision to deploy RFID technology in an enterprise is a business decision instead of a technology decision, cost-benefit analysis is a key component of this decision. If an RFID deployment cannot be justified in terms of its economic value to the company, it is not likely to help the company; and consequently, it is not likely to remain a viable deployment over the long term. The Value of RFID describes the business value of RFID and explains the costs and benefits of this technology comprehensively. Different investment evaluation models are proposed to use in various application areas. Techniques to guide the selection of appropriate implementation levels and to handle uncertainty and risk in RFID are explained. Written for researchers, undergraduate and graduate students, and lecturers working in the field of RFID and supply chain management, readers will learn evaluation practices for RFID investment for different application areas. The book also guides managers in making to accurate decisions on RFID investment to maximize the return.

On the Move to Meaningful Internet Systems: OTM 2009 by Robert Meersman,Tharam Dillon,Pilar Herrero Pdf

Internet-based information systems, the second covering the large-scale in- gration of heterogeneous computing systems and data resources with the aim of providing a global computing space. Eachofthesefourconferencesencouragesresearcherstotreattheirrespective topics within a framework that incorporates jointly (a) theory, (b) conceptual design and development, and (c) applications, in particular case studies and industrial solutions. Following and expanding the model created in 2003, we again solicited and selected quality workshop proposals to complement the more "archival" nature of the main conferences with research results in a number of selected and more "avant-garde" areas related to the general topic of Web-based distributed c- puting. For instance, the so-called Semantic Web has given rise to several novel research areas combining linguistics, information systems technology, and ar- ?cial intelligence, such as the modeling of (legal) regulatory systems and the ubiquitous nature of their usage. We were glad to see that ten of our earlier s- cessful workshops (ADI, CAMS, EI2N, SWWS, ORM, OnToContent, MONET, SEMELS, COMBEK, IWSSA) re-appeared in 2008 with a second, third or even ?fth edition, sometimes by alliance with other newly emerging workshops, and that no fewer than three brand-new independent workshops could be selected from proposals and hosted: ISDE, ODIS and Beyond SAWSDL. Workshop - diences productively mingled with each other and with those of the main c- ferences, and there was considerable overlap in authors.

Communication and Networking by Alan Chin-Chen Chang,MingChu Li,Chunming Rong,Charalampos Z. Patrikakis,Dominik Ślęzak Pdf

Welcome to the proceedings of the 2010 International Conference on Future Gene- tion Communication and Networking (FGCN 2010) – one of the partnering events of the Second International Mega-Conference on Future Generation Information Te- nology (FGIT 2010). FGCN brings together researchers from academia and industry as well as practit- ners to share ideas, problems and solutions relating to the multifaceted aspects of communication and networking, including their links to computational sciences, mathematics and information technology. In total, 1,630 papers were submitted to FGIT 2010 from 30 countries, which - cludes 228 papers submitted to the FGCN 2010 Regular Sessions. The submitted papers went through a rigorous reviewing process: 395 of the 1,630 papers were - cepted for FGIT 2010, while 45 papers were accepted the FGCN 2010 Regular S- sions. Of the 45 papers, 8 were selected for the special FGIT 2010 volume published by Springer in LNCS series. 29 papers are published in this volume, and 8 papers were withdrawn due to technical reasons. We would like to acknowledge the great effort of the FGCN 2010 International Advisory Board and members of the International Program Committee, as well as all the organizations and individuals who supported the idea of publishing this volume of proceedings, including SERSC and Springer. Also, the success of the conference would not have been possible without the huge support from our Sponsors and the work of the Chairs and Organizing Committee.
