Abstract Reality by Cedric Buhagiar Pdf

Rick Ironside, a young cop by profession and a heavy metal band member by passion, meanders down his own winding life path as he struggles to balance his social life on one hand and his private one on the other day in, day out. Scars left by a traumatic childhood and a broken family taint his view of inescapable social life, urging him to find solace in his own intimate reveries and in his sister. Ricks communal and professional life experiences speak for themselves, as if automated, while he strives to stay afloat and keep his instincts at bay. His inner struggles are given expression to through his own inner voice, taking shape as his intimate reveries that are at one and the same time an attempt to exorcise his own psychological demons as much as a signalling of a state of psychological deterioration, which, although being a mere internal whisper, howl fiercely in the readers ear. Things spiral out of control as Rick is suddenly summoned on to the scene of an ongoing crime. He is tossed into a living nightmare, where he is reunited with his sister, whose safety he takes upon himself to keep at all costs. Together, they must delve deeper into a darkly abysmal reality while reacquainting themselves with haunting memories from the past that manifest themselves as monstrosities. But whose is the other voice that appears in Ricks mind? Why is it vying with Rick in a struggle of wits? Can Rick stay sane and see himself and his sister out of this mess? Abstract Reality is an intimate story of a young man who toils with the different faces of his own reality as well as with the ghosts of his own past: a journey through the dark plains of the human psyche, weaving together memory and present external encounters and experiences into a dark veil that barely separates insanity from reality, if at all.

Talking to Canadians by Rick Mercer Pdf

INSTANT #1 NATIONAL BESTSELLER Canada's beloved comic genius tells his own story for the first time. What is Rick Mercer going to do now? That was the question on everyone's lips when the beloved comedian retired his hugely successful TV show after 15 seasons—and at the peak of its popularity. The answer came not long after, when he roared back in a new role as stand-up-comedian, playing to sold-out houses wherever he appeared. And then Covid-19 struck. And his legions of fans began asking again: What is Rick Mercer going to do now? Well, for one thing, he's been writing a comic masterpiece. For the first time, this most private of public figures has turned the spotlight on himself, in a memoir that's as revealing as it is hilarious. In riveting anecdotal style, Rick charts his rise from highly unpromising schoolboy (in his reports "the word 'disappointment' appeared a fair bit") to the heights of TV fame. Along the way came an amazing break when, not long out of his teens, his one-man show Show Me the Button, I'll Push It. Or, Charles Lynch Must Die, became an overnight sensation—thanks in part to a bizarre ambush by its target, Charles Lynch himself. That's one story you won’t soon forget, and this book is full of them. There's a tale of how little Rick helped himself to a tree from the neighbours' garden that's set to become a new Christmas classic. There's Rick the aspiring actor, braving "the scariest thing I have ever done in my life" by performing with the Newfoundland Shakespeare Company; unforgettable scenes with politicians of every variety, from Jean Chretien to George W. Bush to Stockwell Day; and a wealth of behind-the-scenes revelations about the origins and making of This Hour Has 22 Minutes, Made in Canada, and Talking to Americans. All leading of course to the greenlighting of that mega-hit, Rick Mercer Report . . . It's a life so packed with incident (did we mention Bosnia and Kabul?) and laughter we can only hope that a future answer to "What is Rick Mercer going to do now?" is: "Write volume two."

The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen, Vol IV: The Tempest by Alan Moore Pdf

After an epic twenty-year journey through the entirety of human culture—the biggest cross-continuity “universe” that is conceivable—Alan Moore and Kevin O’Neill conclude both their legendary LEAGUE OF EXTRAORDINARY GENTLEMEN and their equally legendary comic book careers with the series’ spectacular fourth and final volume, THE TEMPEST. Tying up the slenderest of plot threads and allusions from the three preceding volumes, THE BLACK DOSSIER, and the NEMO trilogy into a dazzling and ingenious bow, the world’s most accomplished and bad-tempered artist-writer team use their most stylistically adventurous outing yet to display the glories of the medium they are leaving; to demonstrate the excitement that attracted them to the field in the first place; and to analyze, critically and entertainingly, the reasons for their departure. Opening simultaneously in the panic-stricken headquarters of British Military Intelligence, the fabled Ayesha’s lost African city of Kor, and the domed citadel of “We” on the devastated Earth of the year 2996, the dense and yet furiously paced narrative hurtles like an express locomotive across the fictional globe from Lincoln Island to modern America to the Blazing World; from the Jacobean antiquity of Prospero’s Men to the superhero-inundated pastures of the present to the unimaginable reaches of a shimmering science-fiction future. With a cast list that includes many of the most iconic figures from literature and pop culture, and a tempo that conveys the terrible momentum of inevitable events, this is literally and literarily the story to end all stories. Originally published as a six-issue run of unfashionable, outmoded and flimsy children’s comics that would make you appear emotionally backward if you read them on the bus, this climactic magnum opus also reprints classic English super-team publication The Seven Stars from the murky black-and-white reachers of 1964. A magnificent celebration of everything comics were, are, and could be, any appreciator or student of the medium would be unwise to miss THE LEAGUE OF EXTRAORDINARY GENTLEMEN, VOLUME IV: THE TEMPEST.
