Ritual Journeys with Great British Goddesses by Susie Fox Pdf

Ritual Journeys with Great British Goddesses answers the question, who is the great British goddess? It provides thirteen rituals for development and growth, one for each of the thirteen different great British goddesses who were worshipped by our British ancestors. The goddesses are described in both historical and mythological terms, with rituals, meditations, and poems to help readers form a relationship with the goddess. The rituals are linked to the modern months of the year and the Celtic fire festivals, solstices, and equinoxes. The rituals can be followed word for word or used as the starting point for personal creative rituals. Suggestions for creating unique rituals and how to do so with focus and in a safe environment are given. Enjoy a year of discovery with the great British goddess and explore the Celtic heritage of the British Isles. Susie Fox writes poetry, songs, and music in the British folk tradition; teaches music, Reiki, and Seichem; and is involved in two local pagan groups. She follows a Celtic-British path of paganism, focusing on healing.

Journeys to the Underworld and Heavenly Realm in Ancient and Medieval Literature by John C. Stephens Pdf

Concepts of heaven and hell are among the oldest, most widespread religious beliefs in history. In Western literature, they are frequently embedded in stories of underworld explorations and celestial journeys--stories examining the nature of the universe, life on earth and the existence of the gods. The author analyzes tales of wonder in both ancient and medieval European literature. Other-worldly narratives appeared in literary contexts in the ancient world, including mythology, poetry and philosophical writings. In medieval times, they remained a popular form of literary expression. These stories are primarily religious in nature, describing fantastic worlds filled with miracles and supernatural beings.

Journey of a Goddess by Anonim Pdf

First English translations of a novel and two play excerpts based on tales of the goddess Chen Jinggu, an eighth-century shaman and present-day cult deity. This book offers the first translation into English of the Chinese novel Haiyouji, as well as excerpts of a marionette play based on the cult lore of the goddess Chen Jinggu (766–790), a historical shaman priestess who became one of Fujian’s most important goddesses and the Lüshan Sect’s chief deity. The novel, a 1753 reprint of what is possibly a Ming dynasty novel, was both a popular fiction and a religious tract. It offers a lively mythological tale depicting combat between the shaman goddess and a snake demon goddess. Replete with the beliefs and practices of the cult of this warrior goddess, the novel asserts the importance of Shamanism (i.e., local religious beliefs) as one of the four religions of China, along with Confucianism, Buddhism, and Daoism. To further develop the links between literature and local religion, Fan Pen Li Chen includes translations of two acts from a Fujian marionette play, Biography of the Lady, featuring the goddess. Fan Pen Li Chen is Associate Professor of East Asian Studies at the University at Albany, State University of New York. She is the author of Chinese Shadow Theatre: History, Popular Religion, and Women Warriors; Visions for the Masses: Chinese Shadow Plays from Shaanxi and Shanxi; and the editor and translator of Marionette Plays from Northern China, also published by SUNY Press.

Embracing the Witch and the Goddess by Kathryn Rountree Pdf

Embracing the Witch and the Goddess is a detailed survey of present-day feminist witches in New Zealand. It examines the attraction of witchcraft for its practitioners, and explores witches' rituals, views and beliefs about how magic works. The book provides a detailed portrait of an undocumented section of the growing neo-pagan movement, and compares the special character of New Zealand witchcraft with its counterparts in the United States, Great Britain, and Australia. Kathryn Rountree traces the emergence and history of feminist witchcraft, and links witchcraft with the contemporary Goddess movement. She reviews scholarly approaches on the study of witchcraft and deals with the key debates which have engaged the movement's adherents and their critics, and ultimately presents what Mary Daly declared was missing from most historical and anthropological research on witchcraft: a 'Hag-identified vision'. Based on fieldwork amongst witch practitioners, Embracing the Witch and the Goddess is an important contribution to the emerging profile of present-day witchcraft and paganism.

George Washington's Journey by T.H. Breen Pdf

This is George Washington in the surprising role of political strategist. T.H. Breen introduces us to a George Washington we rarely meet. During his first term as president, he decided that the only way to fulfill the Revolution was to take the new federal government directly to the people. He organized an extraordinary journey carrying him to all thirteen states. It transformed American political culture. For Washington, the stakes were high. If the nation fragmented, as it had almost done after the war, it could never become the strong, independent nation for which he had fought. In scores of communities, he communicated a powerful and enduring message—that America was now a nation, not a loose collection of states. And the people responded to his invitation in ways that he could never have predicted.

The Book of Kelle by Lochlainn Seabrook Pdf

It has long been held by most theologians, anthropologists, and other academicians that the world has never known pure Goddess-worship. In particular they deny that it ever existed in the British Isles. In fact, the exact reverse is true. For the vast majority of the islands history, the veneration of a female Supreme Being (Mother-Goddess) was the only religion known. Indeed, until the Early Neolithic Age (4,500 BCE) the concept of a male deity (Father-God) did not even exist in Europe. As award-winning Tennessee author and Southern historian Lochlainn Seabrook readily shows in his important work, The Book of Kelle, proof of Anglo-Celtic Goddess-worship is overwhelming and plentiful. The nations of Britain, Ireland, and Scotland themselves, for example, were all named after goddesses, as were many of their rivers, islands, towns, hills, and mountains. Reinforcing this evidence is the fact that many surrounding countries and regions also take their names from female deities. Among these we have Italy, Holland, Denmark, Crete, Malta, Albania, and Scandinavia, just to name a few. Europe herself is named after a goddess, as is our planet, and even our universe. While Mr. Seabrook touches on these various topics, the final focus of the book is on the Goddess Kelle, who gave her name to her most ardent followers: the Kelts or Celts. Known by poets as the Blessed Lady of Ireland, Kelle s story is a rich and fascinating one; one that Seabrook traces back to early Asia, where she is still worshiped to this day as the Goddess Kali. Lochlainn Seabrook is the winner of the prestigious Jefferson Davis Historical Gold Medal, awarded by the United Daughters of the Confederacy. Known as the American Robert Graves after his celebrated British cousin, Seabrook is a seventh-generation Kentuckian of Appalachian heritage, the sixth great-grandson of the Earl of Oxford, the twenty-first great-grandson of King Edward I, the fortieth great-grandson of British Queen Boudicca, and the author of over thirty popular books. A specialist in thealogy (Goddess-oriented religion), his works include: Britannia Rules: Goddess-Worship in Ancient Anglo-Celtic Society; Christmas Before Christianity: How the Birthday of the Sun Became the Birthday of the Son; The Goddess Dictionary of Words and Phrases; The Quotable Jefferson Davis; The Quotable Robert E. Lee; Everything You Were Taught About the Civil War is Wrong, Ask a Southerner ; Abraham Lincoln: The Southern View; The Unquotable Abraham Lincoln: The President s Quotes They Don t Want You to Know ; A Rebel Born: A Defense of Nathan Bedford Forrest; The McGavocks of Carnton Plantation: A Southern History; Nathan Bedford Forrest: Southern Hero, American Patriot; Carnton Plantation Ghost Stories: True Tales of the Unexplained From Tennessee s Most Haunted Civil War House ; UFOs and Aliens: The Complete Guidebook; and The Blakeneys: An Etymological, Ethnological, and Genealogical Study.
