Reservations by Steve Burgess Pdf

A personal investigation into the real price of our holidays. Travel was once a marker of sophistication. Now the tourist is just as likely to be viewed as one locust in an annihilating swarm. Tourists face tough questions: When does economic opportunity become exploitation? How do we justify the use of climate-changing jet fuel? And can we be sure our tourist dollars aren’t propping up corrupt and brutal regimes? Now, as the world returns to travel, Steve Burgess asks: Is satisfying our own wanderlust worth the trouble it causes everyone else? Or is the tourist guilty of the charges—from voyeurism to desecration—levelled against them by everyone from environmentalists to exhausted locals to superior-feeling fellow tourists who have traded in the tour bus for “authentic experiences”? In this smart and sharply funny interrogation of our right to roam, Burgess looks into the traveller’s soul, sharing the stories of some of his most personally-significant travels, from Rome to Tana Toraja, and looking to studies and experts around the world for insight into why we travel and how we could do it better. And throughout, he tells the story of a month in Japan—his first trip outside North America—and the whirlwind cross-cultural romance that brought him there, and took him on a journey around the country in search of wonder and maybe even love.

Devotional Discovery by Tracy Curington,Abigail Curington Pdf

Can we not find a good reason to praise the Lord with a new song upon the earliest day of a new year? We might begin our song by praising God for His forgiveness of sins, the deliverance of sinners, and the protection of His saints. Next, we might give Him glory for every blessing, for every answered prayer, and for the fulfilment of His promises to humankind. Then we could go further in our exalting Jehovah by honoring His person, for He is good, kind, loving, just, holy, wise, merciful, and gracious though “all we like sheep have gone astray.” In Devotional Discovery, authors Tracy Curington and Abigail Curington take a deep dive into exploring God’s word through 366 days of devotionals, giving you an opportunity to explore every chapter and verse of God’s word in one year. Written by a father-daughter duo, this devotional offers a companion resource to reading the Bible. Each devotional ends with a suggested scripture reading.

Walking with Our Savior by Marv Knipfer Pdf

What can God do in a life totally devoted to walk in the footprints of our Savior? Marv Knipfer, just a simple concrete man, is a perfect example of what can happen when one is truly born again (John 3:3) and the transformation of a new heart and mind take place. I had the honor and privilege of being the wife of this wonderful man, full of love and generosity for fourteen years before God took him home. He truly was given a supernatural gift of writing, especially about the Word of God. He left behind many books he wrote just taking them to a printer in town and giving them out to family, friends, or anyone interested. The idea of sending them to a publisher never seemed to occur to him as he was just humbled to think anyone would like to read them. I personally have never seen anyone mature so rapidly in their faith, and I have been around lots of people who profess to be Christians. It was obvious it was because of his love for God and the time spent daily in the Word that caused this growth. He loved people of all ages, and they loved him back. He was always more than willing to give of his time, service, and finances to those in need. To know "Grandpa Marv" was to love him because just being around him brought one closer to Jesus who was the real One loving through him. Many lives have been touched for eternity because of this simple man, including mine! Heaven got sweeter on June 7, 2010, when he arrived home, and I am confident he heard the words he most wanted to hear: "Well done, good and faithful servant." To God be the glory! Contradict by Andy Wrasman Pdf

Tolerance and co-existence are both great! In fact, they are necessary. If we are to live together in peace without hating each other, or physically harming each other over differences in race, culture, sexual orientation, political views, and religious beliefs, we must have tolerance. However, we must also recognize that every belief can't be equally valid. If two beliefs directly contradict each other, both of them cannot be true, no matter how "tolerant" we become. This means it is false to say that every religion is true, or that every religion leads to God. When people make such claims they show that they have not taken the time to study the world's religions, because a brief reading of the sacred texts of only a handful of religions quickly reveals contradictions on the most fundamental levels. Religious Contradictions Reincarnation (Hinduism and Buddhism) contradicts the belief that this is your only life before eternity (Christianity, Judaism, and Islam). Salvation from sin (Christianity) contradicts the belief that there is no sin to be saved from but simply pain that can be escaped through enlightenment (Buddhism). Jesus Christ is the incarnate, Son of God (Christianity), contradicts the teaching that he is just a prophet (Islam) or that he was a false prophet (Judaism). In light of these contradictions alone, all religions can't be true. They could all be false, but they can't all be true. Are any of them true? This is the most important question anyone can ask. Recognize religious contradictions. Embrace them. Test them. Seek the truth. www.contradictmovement.org

Hauntings by Paul Roland Pdf

Packed with chilling true stories and frightening first-hand accounts, Hauntings is a fascinating investigation of the 21st-century spirits that roam our cities, suburbs, and shopping malls. Paul Roland, author of The Complete Book Of Ghosts and Investigating The Unexplained, unearths disturbing new evidence that reveals how restless spirits are not confined to crumbling castles and historic haunted houses. The dead are all around us, constantly trying to communicate, and now they have access through our computers, TVs, and even our mobile phones! The truth is more terrifying than anything seen on the movie screen. Read about the owners of a modern dream house who took their spectral squatter to court, the dead pilot who took the controls of a crippled aircraft, the ghostbusters who got more than they bargained for, and the murder victim who came back from the grave to put a killer behind bars.

30 Days of Conviction by S. E. Norton Pdf

This is an intensive thirty-day journey into your walk with God. I was hellbound for years, doing what I thought would get me to heaven, rather than doing what the Bible said. I wrote this book so everyone could know where they stand with God, because eternity is not the place to realize for the first time what Jesus did for you on that cross.

The War Came To Us by Christopher Miller Pdf

A WATERSTONES AND IRISH TIMES BOOK OF THE YEAR A breathtaking exploration of Ukraine's past, present, and future, and a heartbreaking account of the war against Russia, written by a leading journalist who has lived and worked in Ukraine for over a decade. 'Vivid... Shocking... [Miller] brings a seasoned, personal perspective to his account of both the 16-month conflict and its wider roots.' Daily Telegraph 'A beautiful blend of memoir, reportage and history...superb.' Irish Times '...powerful and insightful...Miller provides a human dimension to a bloody conflict.' Kirkus Reviews When Russian President Vladimir Putin launched his unprovoked, full-scale invasion of Ukraine just before dawn on 24 February 2022, it marked his latest and most overt attempt to brutally conquer the country, and reshaped the world order. Christopher Miller, the Ukraine correspondent for the Financial Times and a foremost journalist covering the country, was there on the ground when the first Russian missiles struck and troops stormed over the border. But the seeds of Russia's war against Ukraine and the West were sown more than a decade earlier. This is the definitive, inside story of its long fight for freedom. Told through Miller's personal experiences, vivid front-line dispatches and illuminating interviews with unforgettable characters, The War Came To Us takes readers on a riveting journey through the key locales and pivotal events of Ukraine's modern history. From the coal-dusted, sunflower-covered steppe of the Donbas in the far east to the heart of the Euromaidan revolution camp in Kyiv; from the Black Sea shores of Crimea, where Russian troops stealthily annexed Ukraine's peninsula, to the bloody battlefields where Cossacks roamed before the Kremlin's warlords ruled with iron fists; and through the horror and destruction wrought by Russian forces in Bucha, Bakhmut, Mariupol, and beyond. With candor, wit and sensitivity, Miller captures Ukraine in all its glory: vast, defiant, resilient, and full of wonder. A breathtaking narrative that is at times both poignant and inspiring, The War Came To Us is the story of an American who fell in love with a foreign place and its people - and witnessed them do extraordinary things to escape the long shadow of their former imperial ruler and preserve their independence.
