Road Stories by Peter Aven Pdf

Stories always have a lot of names of people and places. I have tried to retain as many original names as I could in the name of realism, but in order to protect identities and reputations, and also to followat least halfwaymy lawyers advice, I had to change about half of them. Wherever possible, I simply avoided names altogether, as in the bass player or the club owner or the town. Whenever there is a remotely negative connotation the names have most definitely been altered. There is also some fill-in work so far as dialogue is concerned. This bit of artistic license was taken not only because I cant remember every single thing everyone said, but also in the name of technical dramatic writing. There is a sprinkling of fiction in all storytelling. Think of it as the spices in the event-salad. I have tried to keep it to a bare minimum. The only ones who might choke on the pepper are the people who were actually there. And you know who you are.

The Country Road: Stories by Regina Ullman Pdf

Although a famous Swiss author, Regina Ullmann has never appeared before in English: her oracular, strange, singular voice astonishes. Never before in English, Regina Ullmann's work is distinctive and otherworldly, resonant of nineteenth-century village tales and of authors such as Adalbert Stifter and her contemporary Robert Walser. In the stories of The Country Road, largely set in the Swiss countryside, the archaic and the modern collide, and "sometimes the whole world appears to be painted on porcelain, right down to the dangerous cracks." this delicate but fragile beauty, with its ominous undertones, gives Ullmann her unique voice.

Echoes of the Silk Road: Stories of the Orient by a Master Storyteller by Daniel Fiddler Pdf

My mother was born and raised in China by her American missionary parents. Throughout my childhood growing up in Michigan, my mother and my grandfather told my brother and me stories about their life in the Orient. My grandfather was a superb storyteller and I was always fascinated by his descriptions of the Chinses people and their culture. Later I would live in both Korea and Japan, adding to my interest in the Far East. Each of these fictional short stories is anchored in Chinese and Japanese history and, in some part, on my firsthand experiences and those of my mother and grandparents.

Papa's Back-Road Short Stories by Ira Lee Cross Pdf

Papa's Back-Road Short Stories by Sam Cross Old highways and back roads seem less traveled, as many people would rather be on main highways to save travel time. Sam "Papa Smurf" Cross is different. This biker prefers to start his adventures in the old highways and back roads leading to old bait houses and old stores, where he might chance upon friendly strangers willing to share wonderful stories, stories he finds worthy of retelling. This treasure of compelling and inspiring stories of ordinary people whose simple acts of kindness brought happiness and hope to families and individuals who survived life's trials, even gaining a new lease on life, are immortalized in Papa's Back-Road Short Stories. A widower opens his life and home to a cat, who, in turn, shares his unconditional love to the widower and later to a cancer stricken girl in need of a friend in "Henry." A lasting friendship that follows after are retold in "Cindy and Henry," "Randy," and "Gunner." A person's worth is more than his or her appearance as the story of a homeless man living his life digging trash cans imparts in "Silver Star." God moves in mysterious ways and nobody would suspect that his help would come from unexpected people, like when two young troublemakers decide to help a widow in need during the time of the Great Depression, in an untitled humorous story that would never get old. Stories like this encourage positivity and belief in God much needed in these times of troubles and deserves a place in anyone's bookshelf.

Feast by Lindsay Anderson,Dana VanVeller Pdf

Two friends. Five months. One car. Ten provinces. Three territories. Seven islands. Eight ferries. Two flights. One 48-hour train ride. And only one call to CAA. The result: over 100 incredible Canadian recipes from coast to coast and the Great White North. In the midst of a camping trip in Squamish, British Columbia, Lindsay Anderson and Dana VanVeller decided that the summer of 2013 might be the right time for an adventure. And they knew what they wanted that adventure to be: a road trip across the entire country, with the purpose of writing about Canada's food, culture, and wealth of compelling characters and their stories. 37,000 kilometres later, and toting a "Best Culinary Travel Blog" award from Saveur magazine, Lindsay and Dana have brought together stories, photographs and recipes from across Canada in Feast: Recipes and Stories from a Canadian Road Trip. The authors write about their experiences of trying whale blubber in Nunavut, tying a GoPro to a fishing line in Newfoundland to get a shot of the Atlantic Ocean's "cod highway," and much more. More than 80 contributors--including farmers, grandmothers, First Nations elders, and acclaimed chefs--have shared over 90 of their most beloved regional recipes, with Lindsay and Dana contributing some of their own favourites too. You'll find recipes for all courses from Barley Pancakes, Yukon Cinnamon Buns, and Bannock to Spot Prawn Ceviche, Bison Sausage Rolls, Haida Gwaii Halibut and Maritime Lobster Rolls; and also recipes for preserves, pickles and sauces, and a whole chapter devoted to drinks. Feast is a stunning representation of the diversity and complexity of Canada through its many favourite foods. The combination of Lindsay and Dana's capitivating journey with easy-to-follow recipes makes the book just as pleasurable to read as it is to cook from.

Stories from The Road Not Taken by Henry Hurt Pdf

The stories in this collection are set in and around the imaginary town of Shaw's Pond in Southside Virginia. The fictional players, including the narrator, are interrelated by bloodlines, marriages, secret loves, scandals and ancient grudges. As with people the world over, the characters and their stories are nourished by the legends that so often enrich the most ordinary of lives. To be sure, a lot is going on at Shaw's Pond. Henry Hurt has been an editor and writer for more than fifty years. As Editor-at-Large for Reader's Digest Magazine in its hey-day, he reported on events from espionage and terrorism to disasters--both natural and man-made. But his favorite subjects were the poignant stories of people where the human spirit shined through circumstances that seemed hopeless. Hurt lives in Southside Virginia.

Stories of the Humboldt Wagon Road by Andy Mark Pdf

Before the completion of the transcontinental railroad, there was the Chico and Humboldt Wagon Road, meant to connect California with the burgeoning mining industries of Nevada and Idaho. The ambitious plan to make Chico a major Northern California transportation hub was spearheaded by John Bidwell and began in earnest in 1864. The road opened new areas to mining and logging and provided opportunities for less scrupulous characters. Stagecoach robberies, murders and shootouts were just some of the misfortunes that occurred on the road, along with the dangers nature provided--snowstorms, perilous terrain and grizzly bears. Author Andy Mark offers a glimpse of what it was like for nineteenth-century travelers and settlers on the route of the Humboldt Wagon Road.

Stories From The Road by Don Taylor Pdf

This book chronicles my thirty-plus years in the transportation industry. Starting as a taxi driver during a transit strike, to driving Long Combination Vehicles, measuring over 120 feet long, weighing over 130,000 lbs. My travels have taken me to all of the lower forty-eight states, and all Canadian provinces except Newfoundland. Some of the stories are quite humours, others are quite tragic. All have had a lasting effect on me.

Cowboy of The Road: True Stories of His Survival by Valerie M. Pontbriand Pdf

Childhood or wildhood? This collection of stories begins with a young boy whose cleverness, ability, and determination are more in line with an adult rather than the curious-minded six year old that we are introduced to in the first story. Normal was never to be a part of Marcel Pontbriand’s life. Orphaned at the tender young age of 14 and with only pennies to his name, you’ll read about how he took to the ice roads of Canada and met with fear, tragedy, and obstacles that only few could even imagine. Challenge, defeat, and the curses of Mother Nature would forge the young Marcel into a focused dreamer who would plan, re-examine his situation, and promise himself a better life, all the while pledging to help others along the way. Just like the highways of Canada and the U.S.A., it’s never a straight path to meet a timeline and a destination. These stories will take you on an adventure of one man’s life that was intertwined with controversy, crime, and corruption. It’s been a truckin’ hard life for Marcel Pontbriand, a life that he would not change in the least, because it molded him into what he became to be called; Cowboy of the Road He has driven more than 5 million miles behind the wheel of his Peterbilt rig. So, let us begin this incredible collection of true tales right now!
