School Development and Monitoring in Primary Government Schools in Urban Bangalore District, Karnataka by Mishti Mukherjee Pdf

Academic Paper from the year 2019 in the subject Didactics - Common Didactics, Educational Objectives, Methods, , language: English, abstract: The present study explores the role of the School Development and Monitoring Committee (SDMC) in primary government schools in Bangalore South District, Karnataka. This study compares a minority school with two Kannada medium governments’ schools to note how functional SDMCs are, the level of awareness among the SDMC members, and the rules and regulations of the SDMC. The Government of India and the State Governments, since independence, made education as an important tool to bring about socio-economic development in the country. There has been a lot of growth in the educational system. However, the outcomes in terms of enrolment, retention and quality of education have not made huge progress over the last five decades. The intention of making elementary education universal in the country and improving its quality remains a challenge. India has the highest number of illiterate populations as compared to other countries. There have been studies which tell that in order to improve the overall development of the schools; we need to encourage community participation. For effective functioning of the school, community participation in terms of parent-teacher-student interaction is a need of the hour. A decentralized approach in education is the most effective outcome to improve the quality of education. The task force report by Raja Ramanna Committee on quality improvement on elementary education introduced the importance of community participation and management for guaranteeing quality education and encouraging community participation through legislation by establishing SDMC. Karnataka was the first state in adopting SDMC. In 2001, the Government of Karnataka ordered that all the schools should have SDMC as a mandatory body by replacing VEC to bring a "qualitative change" in the educational system and to encourage the role of community in school education. The SDMC circulars describing the composition, objectives duties, responsibilities and procedures promulgated to all the schools. Every school in Karnataka has now equipped with SDMC.

DEVELOPMENT OF EDUCATION IN HYDERABAD KARNATAKA REGION by Dr. Shridhar Boranna Pdf

One of the most important ingredients of socio-economic development that has attracted the attention of the planners, policy makers and leaders in the recent past is education. It is an established fact that education is an important catalyst of socio-economic transformation. In the advanced industrial societies of the world, education is provided by the states as a matter of right to all citizens. 1 The role of education was recognised as vital in arousing an awakening among the Indian masses even in the pre-independence era. Its contribution in breaking the shackles of slavery cannot be undermined as far as it helped in the growth of an enlightened intelligentsia, which carried forward not only the movement for independence but also a relentless struggle for socio economic reforms. After independence our planners, policy makers, and leaders placed immense faith in education as an important means of socio-economic transformation and modernization. Since the attainment of independence in 1947 Central and State governments of India very rightly embarked on a crusade against ignorance by expanding the facilities for education at all levels.2 The number of schools and of students attending them began to increase by leaps and bounds all over the country. There is no denying the fact that India has made tremendous progress in the field of education especially after independence. But it may be mentioned here that our present education system is not without maladies and inadequacies.

Community Participation and Empowerment in Primary Education by R Govinda,Rashmi Diwan Pdf

This volume presents the grassroots experiences, problems encountered, and lessons learnt from initiatives launched in five Indian states. The contributors cover a range of important issues including how community participation works in an environment characterized by deep-rooted socio-economic divisions; the equitable distribution of participation; identifying and defining the community; and ensuring the genuine representation of those who are traditionally excluded from decision-making in rural areas./-//-/ The five case studies cover Madhya Pradesh, Karnataka, Rajasthan, Bihar and Kerala. They collectively shed light on how decentralization in education has been actualized in different parts of the country. These experiences contain valuable insights which can be fruitfully applied to the primary education sector. A theme running through the volume as a whole is ways to bring about genuine partnerships between civil society, the administration and NGOs in the drive to achieve universal education.
