Social Workers' Guide to the Serial Publications of Representative Social Agencies (Classic Reprint) by Elsie M. Rushmore Pdf

Excerpt from Social Workers' Guide to the Serial Publications of Representative Social Agencies It is believed that the checklist will be especially helpful to social workers, to whom its service should be threefold: (1) to enable all those who have access to the Russell Sage Foundation Library to consult its source material in any given field with full information as to what publications are available and what are not. (2) To supply students at a distance who cannot use the Library with a source guide. In this latter case reports may generally be secured through a local library, a state library, or library commission. (3) To encourage visits to and studies of progressive institutions. "Together, the historical essays in this volume provide the best account of how the Foundation moved away from its roots as a policy think tank.... This book of essays is the only extended treatment of the Foundation's history that includes both its distinguished early years and its emergence after World War II as the principal private foundation devoted to strengthening basic research in the social sciences." —ERIC WANNER, president of the Russell Sage Foundation, in his foreword to the volume

The Hidden Story by Geraldine E. Rodgers Pdf

Two different and opposite kinds of readers are developed at the very beginning stages of reading instruction as the result of different and opposite kinds of teaching. One kind of reader is taught to read by the 'sound' of print, and reads automatically and with great accuracy. The other kind of reader is taught to read by the 'meaning' of print, as Chinese characters are read, and not only reads inaccurately, but is actually encouraged to do so by so-called 'psycholinguistic guessing.' The Hidden Story explains why the teaching of 'psycholinguistic guessing' to beginning readers, although it manifestly results in a life-long disability, has been the 'experts'' instructional preference ever since 1870, although the term itself is a relatively recent invention.

Work and Family in the United States by Rosabeth Moss Kanter Pdf

Now considered a classic in the field, this book first called attention to what Kanter has referred to as the "myth of separate worlds." Rosabeth Moss Kanter was one of the first to argue that the assumes separation between work and family was a myth and that research must explore the linkages between these two roles.
