A STUDY GUIDE FOR SAMATHA-VIPASSANA MEDITATION BASED ON THE FIVE MEDITATION TECHNIQUES by Phra Thepyanmongkold Pdf

The National Coordination Center of Provincial Meditation Institutes of Thailand was established with the commitment of Directors from 338 Meditation Centers (out of over 400) invited by the National Buddhism Organization to a conference at Wat Yannawa, Bangkok, April 23-25, B.E. 2551 (2008). There were fi ve objectives. Three were established at the conference and the last two were added later. 1. To support the Sangha Body’s Provincial Meditation Centers to administer Buddhist Education effectively, 2. To cooperate with Provincial Meditation Centers to teach meditation at the same high standard for all people at all levels, 3. To assist Provincial Meditation Centers with academic scholarship. 4. To cooperate with the Chiefs of the Sangha Regions and Directors of the Provincial Meditation Centers to raise academic training techniques to the same high standard. 5. To support the Sangha in stabilizing, protecting and developing Buddhism under the rules of the Discipline, the Law and the Sangha Rules. The committee members agreed to publish A Study Guide for Samatha-Vipassanā Meditation based on the Five Meditation Techniques, as a book. Those fi ve techniques are the Triple Gem Meditation (buddho), Mindfulness of Breathing (ānāpānasati), Rising-Falling (infl ating-contracting), Mind (nāma) and Body (rūpa), and Dhammakaya Meditation (sammā arahang). The purposes for this publication were for disseminating the Right Dhamma Practice to the directors and meditation masters of Meditation Centers across Thailand and Buddhists worldwide who study and practice the Right Practice of Lord Buddha, and, most importantly, for all meditators independently practicing any one of these based on one’s own temperament. The book has been translated by Phra Maha Natpakanan Gunanggaro, and edited by Phra Maha Wannapong Wannavanso, David Dale Holmes, Eunice E. Cerezo, Mr. Sakrapan Eamegdool, Mr. Watcharapol Daengsubha, and Ms. Jessica Dawn Ogden. Please address any questions or comments to www.dhammacenter.org. I would like to thank everyone for their strenuous efforts and to congratulate them on this successful contribution to the promulgation of the Dhamma. May these meritorious actions lead all to have prosperity of life and to achieve the Paths, Fruits and Nibbana. May Lord Buddha bless you all, as well as your meritorious work.

Touching the Infinite by Rodney Smith Pdf

An Insight Meditation teacher explores the Four Foundations of Mindfulness, an essential teaching that transcends all Buddhist traditions and provides a path to true liberation Awakening manifests through the application of mindfulness to four areas: body, feelings, mind, and dharmas. Buddhists of all the traditions share this foundational principle, which is defined in the Satipatthana Sutta and has been expounded upon since the time of the Buddha himself. In Touching the Infinite, Rodney Smith guides readers through the Four Foundations to provide a solid understanding of the teaching. He goes on to challenge us to hold this teaching up against our own experience—and in doing so, to discover the inherent interconnection of all Four Foundations. They are a sequential path that reveal the true nature of things, leading the practitioner to the perception of the formless and then back to daily life infused with that great freedom. The Four Foundations of Mindfulness thus serve as a road map for any genuine spiritual path.

Tranquillity & Insight by Amadeo Solé-Leris Pdf

This is the eBook of the BPE edition of Tranquillity & Insight. The pragmatic nature of the Buddha's teaching makes it perennially relevant to all times, and perhaps especially useful for coping with the difficulties of the present age. Leaving aside metaphysical and theological considerations, the Buddha's teaching focuses on what each person can do here and now to overcome the roots of suffering. The heart of this teaching is meditation, which aims at two goals: the calming down of the restless mind and the arousing of insight into the true nature of existence. The present widely acclaimed book explains the methods of Buddhist meditation in a concise yet complete account according to the oldest Buddhist tradition, that based on the Pali Canon. The aim of the book is essentially practical. While providing all the information necessary to proper understanding, the stress is on the need for practice and personal commitment. This work will both instruct the beginner and inspire the experienced meditator. "An excellent reference book ... Will appeal to beginners and non-beginners alike, and will meet the need for a more readable publication in this complex field of spiritual activity." -Buddhist Studies Review

Beyond the Breath by Marshall Glickman Pdf

Beyond the Breath is one of the first books to give a complete overview and description of sensation based vipassana meditation, the form of mediation thought of as the original method of meditation as used by the Buddha 2,500 years ago. This form of meditation, brought to the West by S.N. Geoneka, provides a means to experience emotions directly and nonverbally—accessing the mind through the body. One of the main principles of this school of meditation is that meditation alone is not sufficient practice, but that it must be combined with a whole-life and ethical commitment. M.Glickman's approach is unique—he takes a mediation practice deeply rooted within a historic Buddhist framework, and gives it a modern-day, scientific spin—he presents sensation based viapassana meditaiton and Buddhist principles in 20th-century language, secularizing ideas that may sound exotic, off-putting, or out-dated. Glickman's passion for the topic, as well as his great understanding of Buddhist concepts, make this an inspiring read.

What this writer saw, heard, learned, understood, practiced, and experienced were written down and compiled into a Vietnamese-English bilingual booklet: Diary: Practicing Vipassana and the Four Foundations of Mindfulness Sutta. We respectfully pay our respects to the Dhamma Bodhi Meditation Center, Bodh Gaya, Bihar, India, for organizing these precious spiritual experience meditation classes for free. We would like to pay our respects to Master Bhikṣuṇī Hai Trieu Am for her appendix of the very thorough and awakened teachings on the Four Foundations of Mindfulness. On this occasion, we also express our sincere thank to Bhante Ratna Buddha, Bhikṣuṇī Viên Nhuận, Bhikṣuṇī Nhuận Tường, Bhikṣuṇī Đức Trí, Bhikṣuṇī Viên Quang, Bhikṣuṇī Tịnh Hỷ, Bhikṣuṇī Pháp Huệ, Ms. Kirby and others who helped to give information, translate, print, proofread, edit and publish the book as well as support for the Vipassana course. The author enthusiastically shares her experience during the ten days of meditation with readers near and far, and there will certainly be many shortcomings. We respectfully hope that Venerable Monastics and friends will please guide her so that the future editions can be more complete. The Four Foundations of Mindfulness is the common path of all saints and all practitioners. Diligence, patience, and perseverance are the secrets to success. May all sentient beings practice Dhamma and Vipassana on body, feelings, mind, and Dhamma until they attain liberation. Namo Sakyamuni Buddha, End of year 2023, Bodhgaya, India Triple Bows, Ven.
