Separations Chemistry by Fedor Macášek,James D. Navratil Pdf

Separation of chemical species is a gate to final success of synthesis and preparation of compounds in pure and defined state. Variability of natural and artificial mixtures to be treated is enormous. Task of chemistry is to separate components of homogeneous mixtures (the gaseous and liquid solutions). The book concentrates on understanding the basic philosophies of both equilibrium and nonequilibrium chemical thermodynamics and engineering performance that lay in principle of separation technique such as distillation, crystallization, centrifugation, sorption, membrane separations, chromatography, and liquid-liquid extraction. Specific phenomena connected with photochemical separation, isotope composition, and radioactivity are discussed as well. The book is written for advanced students of chemistry having the knowledge of physical chemistry. Calculation examples are based on the international system of units. Unique list of over 1,300 full references covers scientific literature of the eighteenth to the twenty-first centuries.

Chemical Separations by Clifton E. Meloan Pdf

Performing effective chemical separations-a step-by-step guide to the most commonly used techniques. How do experienced analysts go about making a chemical separation work? Through precise, detailed coverage of the principles, equipment, and techniques involved, this combination laboratory manual and reference source gives readers a working knowledge of an impressive array of separation methods. In forty-two chapters, it explores all major categories of separation, including those involving phase changes, extraction, chromatography, ion-exchange resins, electric fields, flotation, membranes, and miscellaneous techniques. With an emphasis on everyday practice rather than theory, Chemical Separations explains the principles and parameters of these methods with a minimum of mathematics, while providing 59 specific experiments to demonstrate proper procedures. Drawn from well-known commercial and academic laboratories and approved by national standard-setting organizations, these experiments feature step-by-step protocols for each separation scheme, precise instructions on setting up the apparatus, and helpful checklists for essential chemicals and supplies. With Chemical Separations as their guide, laboratory analysts and newcomers to chemical analysis will learn how to obtain quality analysis using commercial products, natural samples, and proven real-world laboratory techniques.

Chemical Derivatization in Analytical Chemistry by R. W. Frei,James F. Lawrence Pdf

With the second volume in this senes we have continued the theme of Volume 1 and expanded more generally into separation and continuous flow techniques. The first chapter gives an account on flow injection analysis. Thi~ technique has gained considerable interest in the recent past and offers many facets of the use of chemistry in automated analysis procedures. One of these facets is certainly also the use of ion-pairing reactions, and we have been fortunate to get two well-known experts to treat this subject. The use of ion-pairing techniques is being discussed from a batch extraction (sample handling) point of view as well as for flow injection and chromato graphic purposes. Immobilized enzymes are another area of major attention and their multidirectional use in analytical chemistry is illuminated in Chapter 3 with special emphasis on their use in connection with liquid chromatography. Needless to say, similar techniques have also found their way into con tinuous-flow methodology (Auto-Analyzers) and many of the aspects dis cussed in Chapter 3 are adaptable to this end. The need and recent urgency for separation of optical isomers in many areas, particularly pharmaceutical and clinical analysis, has spurred a flurry of activity in this special section of chromatography. The current status of the field of optical isomer separation is competently reviewed in Chapter 4. Again this is a typical area wherein it is the proper use of chemistry that finally delivers a solution. The last two chapters deal with precolumn or prechromatographic derivatization techniques.
