The Parables of Jesus by Richard Gribble Pdf

The parable is the most well-known literary form presented in the gospels. And since narrative or story sermons are such a prominent element in the contemporary pulpit, pastors are preaching on the parable texts more frequently than ever. Richard Gribble thoroughly examines each of the parables appearing in Cycle C of the Revised Common Lectionary. Each analysis includes: - discussion of the theme - spiritual food for the journey - application of the parable to contemporary life - openings for preaching - points of challenge and questions to ponder - exegesis and explanation of the parable - context of the parable These studies will be a classic resource for preaching... or useful for Bible study and inspiration. The author of eight books and over 100 articles, Richard Gribble, CSC, is the acting superior at Moreau Seminary at the University of Notre Dame. Father Gribble earned his Ph.D. from The Catholic University of America and has also earned degrees from the United States Naval Academy, the University of Southern California, and the Jesuit School of Theology at Berkeley.

The Parables and Metaphors of Our Lord by G. Campbell Morgan Pdf

G. Campbell Morgan Reprint Series Foreword If it is true that the measure of a person's greatness is their influence, not only on his own time but on future gen- erations, G. Campbell Morgan must be regarded as a great person. His greatness is seen not only in the wide impact of his ministry on both sides of the Atlantic, but in the fact that his books are still read and studied sixty-five years after his death. Named one of the ten greatest preachers of the twentieth-century by the contributing board of Preaching magazine, Morgan made the Bible a new and living book not only to the congregations who listened to him, but the vast multitude of persons who read his books. Fox sixty-seven years Morgan preached and taught the Scriptures and served churches in England and the United States. What is remarkable is that his commentaries and expositions of the Bible still speak to persons of a new millennium. There have been many changes in the world since he faithfully preached and taught the Scriptures, but the wide appeal of his books testify to the timelessness of his message. Although he held pastorates in the Congregational and Presbyterian denominations, he had an ecumenical appeal to persons of all denominations and traditions. The mystic Thomas á Kempis once wrote, "He to whom the eternal word speaks is delivered from many opinions." In one of his sermons, he referred to the words of Amos that there would be a famine for hearing the word of God (Amos 8:11). The timeless work of G. Campbell Morgan addresses that hun- ger, as his books enable his readers to get beyond opinions to the living Word. Wipf and Stock Publishers have rendered a great gift to the religious world in reprinting dozens of Morgan's books. This growing collection makes his books more available, so that readers have an option other than searching the internet for used, and often expensive, copies. Among this collection is the classic The Great Physician and commen- taries on the Gospel of Matthew and John. Persons seeking a living faith and a meaningful encounter with God would profit from reading any of these Morgan books. Near the end of his ministry, in a sermon entitled "But One Thing," Morgan commented on how Portugal changed the words of a coin after Christopher Columbus discovered America. No longer did the inscription say, Ne Plus Ultra (nothing more beyond) but Plus Ultra (more beyond). It is the hope of the G. Campbell Morgan Trust that the reprint- ing of these books will bring readers to the "more beyond," and an even deeper encounter with the Word in Scripture. The Morgan Trust Richard L. The Parables of Jesus: A Book of Sermons by J. Wayne McKamie by J. Wayne McKamie Pdf

These exceptional sermons by J. Wayne McKamie are among the most thought-provoking and spiritually challenging that you will find concerning the human application of the parables of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. He captures both the divine nature and the human nature of Jesus' words and then points out life-changing lessons from these truths, which, if we truly apply them to our hearts and lives, will make us much better people in the service of our Lord. According to Wayne, his main attempt has been to make these grand sermons live anew in the hearts of the Lord's people. He has said, "They have lived for me; I want them to live for others." This series of sermons can be utilized as a great study tool in gaining a more thorough understanding of Jesus' parables. It is also just an enjoyable read for the spiritually minded!

Stories that Live by Gary L Carver Pdf

These are thirty-six sermons hammered out on the hard anvil of life lived with a local community of faith. Sometimes a preaching minister is overwhelmed with the inspiration of having something to say. Sometimes a preaching minister is overwhelmed by the responsibility of having to say something. These sermons fall into the category of the later. They were forged from the constant experience of having to answer the bell to preach each Lord's Day regardless of circumstance. They were fashioned from the background of 49 years in the pastorate and six years with this particular congregation, one that presents to the proclaimer the pressure of knowing good preaching whether they hear it from me or not. There is no consistent style or form to these sermons. Each sermon draws its substance and form from the experience of its respective text, as did the worship services in which they were proclaimed. The nature of these sermons is more inductive than deductive as were, of course, the parables from which they came. A conscientious effort was made to prepare and present these sermons in a way as to preserve the oral nature of preaching as well as the nature of the parable itself. The congregation at worship was invited to "hear" the scriptural texts and the sermons were delivered without a manuscript. One quickly will note that there often are several different sermons preached on the same parable. Hopefully, this will preserve the integrity of the arena of interpretation as well as applying its truth to different situations at different times.

Life in Christ Vol 4 by Charles H. Spurgeon Pdf

Master, we have toiled all the night, and have taken nothing: nevertheless at thy word I will let down the net. – Luke 5:5 Original title: Miracles and Parables of Our Lord. Volume 4 A deep, inspiring, and often challenging study of the Lord Jesus Christ's miracles and parables. Men who were led by the hand or groped their way along the wall to reach Jesus were touched by his finger and went home without a guide, rejoicing that Jesus Christ had opened their eyes. Jesus is still able to perform such miracles. And, with the power of the Holy Spirit, his Word will be expounded and we’ll watch for the signs to follow, expecting to see them at once. Why shouldn’t those who read this be blessed with the light of heaven? This is my heart's inmost desire. I can’t put fine words together. I’ve never studied speech. In fact, my heart loathes the very thought of intentionally speaking with fine words when souls are in danger of eternal punishment. No, I work to speak straight to your hearts and consciences, and if there is anyone with faith to receive, God will bless them with fresh revelation. - Charles H. Spurgeon In this fourth volume, Charles H. Spurgeon expounds in marvelous detail on the following miracles: * Jesus tells Simon to cast his net on the other side of the boat and he obeys. (Luke 5:4-5) * Jesus heals the centurion's servant and marveled because of the centurion's great faith. (Matthew 8:7-10; Luke 7:4-8) * Jesus casts an unclean spirit out of a man, and all are amazed at His authority. (Mark 1:21-28) * Jesus heals the persistent Gentile woman's daughter and compliments her remarkable faith. (Matthew 15:24-28)
