The author begins with the history of the founding of the Roman Catholic Church in America and the Archdiocese of Philadelphia and leads the reader through the confession and testimony of Father William Hogan, a nineteenth-century priest who acknowledged his role in grooming parishioners in the confessional, attested to the sexually abusive behavior of many of his colleagues, and argued for the pervasiveness of clergy sexual violence in the church. The reader will also be exposed to graphic grand jury testimony of the victims of a small representative sample of accused sexually violent priests from the Archdiocese of Philadelphia—Father Gerard W. Chambers, Father Joseph Gausch, and Father Nicholas V. Cudemo—who targeted their victims based on race, class, and gender. The author includes the historical context in which each priest lived and served by presenting these priests to the reader in chronological order based on their date of ordination. To assist the readers in their understanding of the scope of the cover-up by the leadership of the church, the author examines the administration of the bishops or cardinals supervising the archdiocese during the tenure of each of these predator priests.

She identifies a contemporary black church culture where figures such as Jakes use the jezebel stereotype to suggest a divine approval of the “lady” while condemning girls and women seen as "hos." In response, black women and girls resist, appropriate, and play with the stereotype's meanings. Healing the black church, Lomax contends, will require ceaseless refusal of the idea that sin resides in black women's bodies, thus disentangling black women and girls from the jezebel narrative's oppressive yoke.

This book is entirely based off of my memories of my psychotic episodes from 1995 through 1997. It is not a book about how a schizophrenic lives; it is more so about what it is like to be schizophrenic. The reader gets right in my head to see and feel what a psychosis is actually like. No punches are pulled. No sugar coated stories here. Its not like what they show in the movies; its much stranger. I dont talk so much about my odd behavior as much as I show the reader what I am going through at the time. Most of the time I could not tell you what or if anything was odd about my behavior, but I go right into what was wrong with my thinking. The book is intense for the reader and very personal for me to share. Some parts of this book may make you laugh and cry at the same time, but the riveting climax might frighten you. There is a recovery, though. Schizophrenia is a disease that can be recovered from, as is testament in that I wrote this book in about four months, while holding a full-time, professional job. Nothing in the book is fictionalized except the names and places and that is out of respect for other peoples privacy. It is a good read for anyone who wants to understand what is going on in the head of a person suffering from psychosis.
