Shelby's Folly by Jason Kelly Pdf

In 1923, not long after oil had started gushing from northern Montana fields, real-estate sales in nearby Shelby were declining, dimming the little town’s prospects of becoming the “Tulsa of the West.” Then the mayor’s son dreamed up a marketing ploy: offer to host heavyweight champion Jack Dempsey’s next fight. What began as a publicity stunt soon spiraled into a civic drama unlike any Montana had ever seen—or ever would again. Shelby’s Folly tells this story in full for the first time. Against the background of boom-and-bust Montana history, the folly of Shelby’s would-be promoters unfolds in colorful detail. It took months to persuade Dempsey’s conniving manager, Jack “Doc” Kearns, to sign a $300,000 contract. With less than two months before the July 4th fight, the town still had no stadium and no accommodations for tens of thousands of expected fans. Jason Kelly describes the promoters’ desperate measures and their disastrous results, from the first inkling of the idea to the bitter end of the fifteen-round boxing match. Shelby residents identified with the underdog challenger, Tommy Gibbons, who went toe-to-toe with the champion in an atmosphere crackling with tension. Nerves were so frayed that a holiday firecracker exploding in the arena sent shockwaves of fear through the crowd. A soap opera of financial intrigue and chicanery, Shelby’s Folly chronicles how Big Sky ambition and the scheming mind of Doc Kearns collided to produce one of the most preposterous series of events in boxing history. Year of Folly by Tracy Cooper-Posey Pdf

All Emma wants is to belong… Emma, the youngest daughter of the great family, cannot find acceptance among the peers of society despite four Seasons of pleasing everyone. She is banished to Inverness to avoid any scandal her anger might cause. Even in Inverness, she is an outsider, for her cousins, including staid and boring Morgan Davies, spend all their days working and thinking, for heaven’s sake! Having survived years of the family’s disasters, Morgan likes his quiet life and routine. Emma’s excesses and plain speaking disrupt his days. When Emma discovers politics and adopts as her cause women’s suffrage, the most outrageous scandal the family has yet to produce threatens to turn Morgan’s world inside out… This book is the twelfth in the Scandalous Scions series, bringing together the members of three great families, to love and play under the gaze of the Victorian era’s moralistic, straight-laced society. This story is part of the Scandalous Scions series: 0.5 Rose of Ebony 1.0 Soul of Sin 2.0 Valor of Love 3.0 Marriage of Lies 4.0 Mask of Nobility 5.0 Law of Attraction 6.0 Veil of Honor 7.0 Season of Denial 8.0 Rules of Engagement 9.0 Degree of Solitude 10.0 Ashes of Pride 11.0 Risk of Ruin 12.0 Year of Folly 13.0 Queen of Hearts A Sexy Historical Romance ___ Praise for the Scandalous Scions series: If you haven't started this series, start right now and you will fall in love with this very unconventional family during a time when rules, etiquette and unwritten rules had to be followed or the lack of them would bring scandal and ruin to an entire family. I love these books. Tracy creates these characters so well and with such care. I really recommend reading this series. I am overwhelmed by how much I have enjoyed this series so far. It was not superficial fluff as I thought it might be when I began. Cooper-Posey books have touched on so many universal themes. Her characters are admirable people who love their family and are capable of deep romantic love as well. I just love this series and the books just keep getting better and better. This series takes us on a romp through historical times, which I love. If you haven't read this magnificent series you must do so now; you will love each story, be moved by each of them, fall in love with the heroines and heroes, you will cheer for them and just as loudly boo the villains. Love this series and have bought them all. This entire series is filled with so much love for each other and family, that there is no way you cannot be emotionally drawn into each story.

The writing is witty and sharp; the story is gripping; and the characters are so realistic. Even the supporting characters are fully defined and interesting. The Regency Romances by Laura Kinsale Pdf

A trio of captivating historical romances by a New York Times–bestselling author whose “work is unfailingly brilliant and beautiful” (Julia Quinn). “No one—repeat no one—writes historical romance better than Laura Kinsale” (Mary Jo Putney), and one of the New York Times–bestselling and Rita Award–winning author’s specialties is the Regency period. This trio of enchanting love stories introduces unforgettable couples who leap off the pages and into our hearts. Midsummer Moon: Merlin Lambourne has invented the “speaking box”—a sort of telephone—which is so valuable that Napoleon has killed for it. Sent by the crown to bring both inventor and invention to safety, Ransom Falconer, Duke of Damerell, is shocked to learn the eccentric genius is female. More shocking is how beguiled he is by her. Now if he could just get her mind out of the clouds and convince her to marry him . . . “One of the greatest, unacknowledged romantic comedy novels.” —All About Romance My Sweet Folly: In a loveless marriage, Folie Hamilton finds her lonely days brightened by letters from her husband’s cousin, Lt. Robert Cambourne, stationed in Calcutta. Unbidden love blossoms, yet upon the death of her husband, Robert’s last letter shatters her heart with three words: I am married. Four years later, Robert summons Folie and her stepdaughter to England. But the haunted widower is not the man she once knew; he has become paranoid and delusional. In this RITA Award nominee, will Folie find the man who once captured her heart? “Laura Kinsale is one of the romance genre’s brightest stars.” —Loretta Chase Uncertain Magic: In nineteenth-century Ireland, Roddy Delamore has little chance of finding a husband, cursed as she is with the gift of mind reading. Privy to the dishonorable thoughts of her suitors, she seizes on the chance to marry Faelan Savigar, the Earl of Iveragh, despite his poor reputation and murky past. Condemned by dark rumors, Lord Iveragh is taken aback by the woman’s proposal. How is it that she believes in him? And does he dare give her his heart? “First-rate . . . Laura Kinsale delivers powerful unique romance.” —Amanda Quick

Requiem for Doctor Edward Browne by Richard Dean Smith Pdf

When Dr. Brownes partner retires, his practice is taken over by Dr. Forbes Q. Hazzig, who becomes a zealot for a managed care revolution of marketplace medicine. Browne and his associate Dr. Kennes receive irrational, discordant information from healthcare experts, consultants and economists. Browne learns that rhetoric of a mass movement must be as erroneous as possible promising a vague, glorious future. Hazzig grows immensely rich and gains enormous power relying on intimidation and coercion. Joanna Brownes exhibition of J.M.W. Turner becomes a thrilling success, yet Hazzigs wife succeeds in eliminating Joannas position at East Valley Museum of Art. Joanna must accept a position at a distant university; her absence devastates Browne. Browne and Kennes discover managed care was based on a Washington bureau hoax, the health maintenance strategy of 1973: an irrational mass movement, a mass hysteria. Hazzig plots to humiliate and ruin the two doctors; each threat goes awry. Hazzig is discredited; his illusory wealth collapses. Reunited with Joanna, Dr. Browne receives a disturbing invitation to return to East Valley to be recognized with Dr. Kennes for their efforts to expose the folly of managed care. Browne is reluctant to relive his lonely, troubled, distressed past.
