The Adventures of Sherlock Holmes by Arthur Conan Doyle Pdf

In general the stories in The Adventures of Sherlock Holmes identify, and try to correct, social injustices. Holmes is portrayed as offering a new, fairer sense of justice. The stories were well received, and boosted the subscriptions figures of The Strand Magazine, prompting Doyle to be able to demand more money for his next set of stories. The first story, "A Scandal in Bohemia", includes the character of Irene Adler, who, despite being featured only within this one story by Doyle, is a prominent character in modern Sherlock Holmes adaptations, generally as a love interest for Holmes. Doyle included four of the twelve stories from this collection in his twelve favourite Sherlock Holmes stories, picking "The Adventure of the Speckled Band" as his overall favourite.

Sherlock Holmes: The Complete Novels and Stories Volume I by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle Pdf

Since his first appearance in Beeton’s Christmas Annual in 1887, Sir Arthur Conan Doyle’s Sherlock Holmes has been one of the most beloved fictional characters ever created. Now, in two paperback volumes, Bantam presents all fifty-six short stories and four novels featuring Conan Doyle’s classic hero--a truly complete collection of Sherlock Holmes’s adventures in crime! Volume I includes the early novel A Study in Scarlet, which introduced the eccentric genius of Sherlock Holmes to the world. This baffling murder mystery, with the cryptic word Rache written in blood, first brought Holmes together with Dr. John Watson. Next, The Sign of Four presents Holmes’s famous “seven percent solution” and the strange puzzle of Mary Morstan in the quintessential locked-room mystery. Also included are Holmes’s feats of extraordinary detection in such famous cases as the chilling “ The Adventure of the Speckled Band,” the baffling riddle of “The Musgrave Ritual,” and the ingeniously plotted “The Five Orange Pips,” tales that bring to life a Victorian England of horse-drawn cabs, fogs, and the famous lodgings at 221B Baker Street, where Sherlock Holmes earned his undisputed reputation as the greatest fictional detective of all time.

Sherlock Holmes by Arthur Conan Doyle Pdf

This enthralling collection of Sherlock Holmes adventures comprises the first two volumes of Sir Arthur Conan Doyle's short stories - The Adventures and The Memoirs. The Adventures was originally published in 1892 and included twelve stories that had appeared in Strand magazine over the previous year. The Memoirs followed suit in 1894, completing the collection of Strand short stories up to that point. The Adventures of Sherlock Holmes contains four of Conan Doyle's own all-time favourite Holmes mysteries, The Adventure of the Speckled Band, The Red-Headed League, A Scandal in Bohemia and The Five Orange Pips. The Memoirs of Sherlock Holmes has another three of Conan Doyle's favourites in The Adventure of the Reigate Squire, The Adventure of the Musgrave Ritual and The Adventure of the Final Problem. It is in The Final Problem, of course, that Dr Watson sadly reports the death of Holmes at the Reichenbach Falls near Meiringen in Switzerland. Holmes's titantic struggle with his arch enemy, Professor Moriarty, had seen them both apparently plunge over a sheer drop, although Watson never actually finds Holmes's body. This was Conan Doyle's attempt to bring an end to Holmes's adventures, but he was to be resurrected by popular demand eight years later. The Memoirs also includes The Adventure of the Greek Interpreter, in which Holmes's brother, Mycroft, appears for the first time and The Adventure of the Gloria Scott, in which Holmes describes to Watson his very first case.

In League with Sherlock Holmes by Leslie S, Klinger,Laurie R. King Pdf

The latest entry in Laurie R. King and Leslie S. Klinger’s popular Sherlock Holmes-inspired mystery series, featuring fifteen talented authors and a multitude of new cases for Arthur Conan Doyle’s most acclaimed detective. Sherlock Holmes has not only captivated readers for more than a century and a quarter, he has fascinated writers as well. Almost immediately, the detective’s genius, mastery, and heroism became the standard by which other creators measured their creations, and the friendship between Holmes and Dr. Watson served as a brilliant model for those who followed Doyle. Not only did the Holmes tales influence the mystery genre but also tales of science-fiction, adventure, and the supernatural. It is little wonder, then, that when the renowned Sherlockians Laurie R. King and Leslie S. Klinger invited their writer-friends and colleagues to be inspired by the Holmes canon, a cornucopia of stories sprang forth, with more than sixty of the greatest modern writers participating in four acclaimed anthologies. Now, King and Klinger have invited another fifteen masters to become In League with Sherlock Holmes. The contributors to the pair’s next volume, due out in December 2020, include award-winning authors of horror, thrillers, mysteries, westerns, and science-fiction, all bound together in admiration and affection for the original stories. Past tales have spanned the Victorian era, World War I, World War II, the post-war era, and contemporary America and England. They have featured familiar figures from literature and history, children, master sleuths, official police, unassuming amateurs, unlikely protagonists, even ghosts and robots. Some were new tales about Holmes and Watson; others were about people from Holmes’s world or admirers of Holmes and his methods. The resulting stories are funny, haunting, thrilling, and surprising. All are unforgettable. The new collection promises more of the same!

The Adventure of the Blanched Soldier by Arthur Conan Doyle Pdf

James Dodd comes to Sherlock Holmes about the whereabouts of his friend Godfrey Emsworth. The two men fought in the Second Boer War together, where Ensworth was wounded. Dodd has not heard from his friend since then and believes something is very wrong. He has contacted Emsworth’s father, Colonel Ensworth, but the later tells him his son has gone off at sea. Not satisfied by this response Dodd went off to visit the colonel and his wife, who he found to be less than welcoming. Questioning the butler only made Dodd even less at ease and he hopes that Holmes will be able to track Emsworth down. "The Adventure of the Blanched Soldier" (1926) is part of "The Case-Book of Sherlock Holmes". Sir Arthur Conan Doyle (1859-1930) was born in Scotland and studied medicine at the University of Edinburgh. After his studies, he worked as a ship’s surgeon on various boats. During the Second Boer War, he was an army doctor in South Africa. When he came back to the United Kingdom, he opened his own practice and started writing crime books. He is best known for his thrilling stories about the adventures of Sherlock Holmes. He published four novels and more than 50 short-stories starring the detective and Dr Watson, and they play an important role in the history of crime fiction. Other than the Sherlock Holmes series, Doyle wrote around thirty more books, in genres such as science-fiction, fantasy, historical novels, but also poetry, plays, and non-fiction.

The Casebook of Sherlock Holmes by Arthur Conan Doyle Pdf

The Casebook of Sherlock Holmes by Arthur Conan Doyle - is the final set of twelve (out of a total of fifty-six) Sherlock Holmes short stories by British writer Arthur Conan Doyle first published in the Strand Magazine between October 1921 and April 1927. Title of collection: The first British edition of the collection, published by John Murray, and the first American edition, published by George H. Doran Co., were both published in June 1927. However, they had slightly different titles. The title of the British collection was The Case-Book of Sherlock Holmes (hyphenated "Case-Book"), whereas the title of the American edition was The Case Book of Sherlock Holmes ("Case Book" as two words). Further confusing the issue of the title, some later publishers released the collection under the title The Casebook of Sherlock Holmes ("Casebook" as a single word). Contents: The first edition of The Case-Book, published by John Murray in 1927, does not present the stories in the order in which they were published:[2] 1 The Adventure of the Illustrious Client 2 The Adventure of the Blanched Soldier 3 The Adventure of the Mazarin Stone 4 The Adventure of the Three Gables 5 The Adventure of the Sussex Vampire 6 The Adventure of the Three Garridebs 7 The Problem of Thor Bridge 8 The Adventure of the Creeping Man 9 The Adventure of the Lion's Mane 10 The Adventure of the Veiled Lodger 11 The Adventure of Shoscombe Old Place 12 The Adventure of the Retired Colourman
