Dreaming—The Sacred Art by Lori Joan Swick, PhD Pdf

Awaken to the wonders of your dreamself, and energize your spiritual potential for self-understanding and self-healing. “Without a doubt, people of all times and places have had the capacity to dream the sacred. I write this book in a sincere effort to create space for us to share these dreams and to provide a practical guide to nurturing sacred dreaming as an art.” —from the Introduction Sacred dreams—those in which the dreamer experiences the immediate presence of or communication with the Divine——have shaped the spiritual history of humankind. Jacob’s ladder dream, Joseph’s dream verifying Mary’s virgin pregnancy and Herod’s plans to destroy the child, Siddhartha Gautama Buddha’s auspicious dreams on his journey to enlightenment, Muhammad’s night journey dream—the pervasive power of the sacred dream is part of the scripture and lore of virtually all the world’s religions. This fascinating introduction to sacred dreaming celebrates the dream experience as a way to deepen spiritual awareness and as a source of self-healing for people of all faith traditions—or none. Includes practical, step-by-step exercises in every chapter.

The Sacred Book of the Werewolf by Victor Pelevin Pdf

The world?s first Zen Buddhist paranormal romance?published to coincide with Halloween One of the most progressive writers at work today, Victor Pelevin?s comic inventiveness has won him comparisons to Kafka, Calvino, and Gogol, and Time has described him as a ?psychedelic Nabokov for the cyberage.? In The Sacred Book of the Werewolf, a smash success in Russia and Pelevin?s first novel in six years, paranormal meets transcendental with a splash of satire as A Hu-Li, a two-thousand-year-old shape-shifting werefox from ancient China meets her match in Alexander, a Wagner-addicted werewolf who?s the key figure in Russia?s Big Oil. Both a supernatural love story and an outrageously funny send-up of modern Russia, this stunning and ingenious work of the imagination is the sharpest novel to date from Russia?s most gifted literary malcontent.

Sacred Estrangement by Peter A. Dorsey Pdf

Sacred Estrangement analyzes certain works by important American writers and thinkers in the context of the "rhetoric of conversion." Such analysis is especially valuable because it provides a reliable index of the relationship between the self and larger communities. Traditionally, "conversion" has served a socializing function, signifying that one has come into alignment with certain linguistic, behavioral, and cultural expectations. The socialization process is particularly apparent in the Christian conversion narratives of the seventeenth through nineteenth centuries: by publicly testifying to a conversion experience, believers became empowered members, not only of God's elect community but also of a local population. As modern autobiography developed in the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries, the Christian pattern was secularized and individualized. Conversion became a model for many kinds of psychological change. With the coming of the twentieth century, however, the authors upon whom Peter Dorsey focuses, including William and Henry James, Henry Adams, Edith Wharton, Ellen Glasgow, Zora Neale Hurston, and Richard Wright, radically revised conversion rhetoric. If conversion had traditionally linked the search for illumination with the search for a defined social role, these writers increasingly used conversion as an index of estrangement from mainstream America. Dorsey documents this profound change in the way American intellectuals defined the "self," not in terms of personal orientation toward or away from a given community, but as a resistance to such an orientation altogether, as if social forces by their "nature" were a threat to personal identity.

Conversion: A Spiritual Novel About The Sacred & The Profane by Michael Slome, MD Pdf

Robert Eaton, like most of us, is a flawed human being. He is sixty-seven years old. He is at the zenith of his career in academic psychiatry. He has practiced psychiatry for forty years. He has over two hundred publications in highly esteemed, peer-reviewed, scientific journals. He is a professor of psychiatry at one of the world's leading medical centers. He is also the medical director of a neuropsychiatric research center. Dr. Eaton should be happy. But he isn't. He is going through his midlife crisis at the age of sixty-seven, when many colleagues are starting to consider retirement. Eaton's world is academic psychiatry. He has no other world and no other life. His friends are his scientific journals. He is a man who eschews religious faith. He is starting to question whether his life has any meaning. His only solace is from walks along the East River and from his friend Chivas Regal. Into Eaton's life came Fred Leidendorfer, a seriously and persistently mentally ill person, who Eaton has been trying to stabilize for many years. While living in New York City, Fred is taken under the wings of a local parish priest. This begins a redemptive journey for Fred, much to the dismay of Dr. Eaton. To this individual conflict is added a very unsettling and chaotic time in world history. There are rumors of a New World Order, of a powerful new military weapon, of a loss in individual freedoms, and the emergence of an evil as never before experienced by humanity. The question that arises and needs to be settled is how Dr. Eaton weathers his emotional and spiritual storms. Through encounters with some very special people, Eaton is about to find the light of God at the end of a very long and very dark tunnel.

The Sacred Search by Gary Thomas Pdf

Bestselling author Gary Thomas transforms the way you look at romantic relationships. His unique perspective on dating will prepare you for a satisfying, spiritually enriching marriage. In the revised edition of his hit book The Sacred Search, Gary Thomas helps single people of all ages make wise marital choices by rethinking what basis those choices should be made on. You will be encouraged to think beyond finding your “soul mate” and instead adopt a more biblical search for a “sole mate”—someone who will walk with you on your spiritual journey. Thomas asks, What if we focused on why we should get married more than on who to marry? What if being “in love” isn’t a good enough reason to get married? And most of all, what if God designed marriage to make us holy more than to make us happy? The Sacred Search casts a vision for building a relationship around shared spiritual mission—and making marriage with eternity at its heart.
