Gland-Preserving Salivary Surgery by M. Boyd Gillespie,Rohan R. Walvekar,Barry M. Schaitkin,David W. Eisele Pdf

Salivary Endoscopy is a rapidly emerging field that has revolutionized the management of non-neoplastic diseases of the salivary gland, such as salivary stones, sialadenitis, and salivary duct stenosis. With the emergence of endoscopic access to the salivary ductal system, several procedural and technical innovations have emerged that have now permitted gland preservation surgery for these pathologies. As more centers and physicians are adopting this rapidly emerging and evolving procedure, there is a need for source of literature that provides current concepts and detailed technical descriptions of the procedures that involve gland preservation surgery. This text intends to capture the current concepts among experts and in literature regarding the management of non-neoplastic salivary gland diseases. The book also focuses on steps of surgical management and technical pearls while providing detailed information on the decision-making process when emcompassing the diversity of clinical presentation, intra-operative decision-making and post op care. Gland Preservation Surgery provides high quality illustrations, clinical and operative images, and videos that serve as an online resource to salivary gland surgeons and endoscopists with varying experience and expertise.

The Second Edition of The Milan System for Reporting Salivary Gland Cytopathology, like the First Edition, represents a collaborative effort by a multidisciplinary group of cytopathologists, surgical pathologists, molecular pathologists, radiologists, and head and neck surgeons. This international group shares the goal of creating a practical and uniform reporting system for salivary gland fine needle aspiration (FNA). This book is organized into six general diagnostic categories: “Non-Diagnostic,” “Non-Neoplastic,” “Atypia of Undetermined Significance (AUS),” “Neoplasm: Benign,” “Neoplasm: Salivary Gland Neoplasm of Uncertain Malignant Potential (SUMP),” “Suspicious for Malignancy,” and “Malignant.” It includes definitions, morphologic criteria, and explanations for each of the diagnostic categories. Specific chapters are dedicated to the application of the latest available ancillary studies, radiologic features of salivary gland lesions, clinical management, and histological considerations including updates from the most recent 5th Edition WHO blue book. The Milan System for Reporting Salivary Gland Cytopathology 2nd Edition represents an essential step towards increasing the overall effectiveness of salivary gland FNA and fostering better communication between clinicians and between institutions to improve overall patient care.

Diagnosis of salivary gland disorders by K. Graamans,Hans Van den Akker Pdf

Historically, disorders of salivary glands tend to be 'underdiagnosed and overtreated'. In the vast body of literature on this subject, emphasis has usually been put on therapeutic modalities of various diseases of the salivary glands. Whereas therapy and pathology have been treated in numerous thorough studies, the (patho )physiology of the salivary glands has remained rather poorly understood. Even less attention has been given to the diagnostic methods. Until a few decades ago, diagnosis consisted mainly of a clinical examin ation which included the patient's history, inspection, and palpation. These methods remain crucial, but a variety of new diagnostic tools have appeared since then. Their clinical value is still subject to controversy; each method has its advocates and opponents. The indications for enrolling a patient at a given point in a series of diagnostic procedures are interpreted differently. One of the most striking examples is the use of sialography. This has become a classic diagnostic procedure. Although sialography is still a useful method, it has considerable disadvantages, limitations, and even contraindications. In the major teaching hospitals, residents still tend to consider sialography as a panacea for the majority of their diagnostic problems, whereas the infor mation provided is actually rather restricted. Other modern methods such as CT and MRI have taken over the role of sialography to a certain extent. This also applies to ultrasonography and scintigraphy. Moreover, microbiol ogy, sialometry, sialochemistry, cytology, and histopathology may give super ior information in certain cases.
