Silence Is Not Always Golden by Joy Elan Pdf

Silence Is Not Always Golden: The Power of Spoken Words is a collection of poetry that is defying the norm. Written words have power because anyone can refer to them. However, spoken words are more powerful because the words are brought to life once they leave the body or a piece of paper. Instead of writing what people want to hear, I wrote what people need to hear. The truth! Sometimes the truth can be beautiful and sometimes it can be ugly. My words and my voice are my weapons and I have to speak up on my beliefs. Other people may not feel as powerful to speak up so I speak up for them. I could not sit there and not say anything. I was taught that you cannot do what everyone else wants; you have to do what YOU want. To be YOU is as original as there can be and people will try to put you down because you are different. I say try because only YOU can let them. My words are my way of fulfilling my purpose because I am making my dream a reality and I am showing you that you can do the same. This edition is slightly different from Silence Is Not Always Golden: A Poetic Revolution because there are clean versions of the poems and a few new poems that were written after I published it.

The Silences of Science by Felicity Mellor,Stephen Webster Pdf

Over the last half century scholars from a range of disciplines have attempted to theorise silence. Naively we tend to think of silence negatively, as a lack, an emptiness. Yet silence studies shows that silence is more than mere absence. All speech incorporates silence, not only in the gaps between words or the pauses that facilitate turn taking, but in the omissions that result from the necessary selectivity of communicative acts. Thus silence is significant in and of itself; it is a sign that has socially-constructed (albeit context -dependent and ambiguous) meanings. To date, studies of science communication have focussed on what is said rather than what is not said. They have highlighted the content of communication rather than its form, and have largely ignored the gaps, pauses and lacunae that are an essential, and meaningful, part of any communicative act. Both the sociology of science and the history of science have also failed to highlight the varied functions of silence in the practice of science, despite interests in tacit knowledge and cultures of secrecy. Through a range of case studies from historical and contemporary situations, this volume draws attention to the significance of silence, its different qualities and uses, and the nature, function and meaning of silence for science and technology studies.

ALL IS SILENCE by Robert L. Slater Pdf

All is Silence in the World: A Deserted Lands novel By Robert L. Slater The Stand (without paranormal) meets The Bell Jar 2018. No Aliens. No Nuclear War. No Zombies. No People. Almost no humans. In a world ravaged by disease, Lizzie, a 17 year old with an alphabet soup of diagnoses, is one of the few left alive. The freeway on the other side of her street, blocked by cement walls that did little to block the noise, sits eerily silent, the daily sirens faded. Lizzie had said, “I hope you all die!” And then they did. Almost everyone. Her alcoholic mother and her little brother are dying in the hospital; her mom’s abusive boyfriend is dead. Despite her words, being alone isn’t a good thing for an suicidal cutter. Fear of the disease has kept her inside, frozen with indecision. When she finally ventures out she finds survivors: dog-people--altered by the disease, left less than human, and people less scarred, some from her past. A shocking turn of events leaves blood on her hands and reveals a link to a stranger she thought was dead. Bellingham turns dangerous; Lizzie and her friends flee across deserted lands seeking safety and hope for new beginnings. Along the way people join their quest. They encounter fledgling governments, new and old religious fanatics and marauding renegades. In a world with plenty of food, plenty of gas, plenty of space… fear, anger and lust for power still control the patterns of human life. An edgy, realistic, Young Adult apocalypse written by a former alternative high school teacher for the angry, sad Children of the Children of the 80s, teenagers who grew up on their parents’ Hair Metal, John Hughes movies, and pizza. Oh, and their parents who aren’t too old to recognize themselves…

On not being Able to Play by Marla Morris Pdf

Scholars and musicians from many different backgrounds will find this book helpful as it deals with psychic problems in both professions. This book might help scholars and musicians to find a way out of their psychic dilemmas. From classical musicians to rock stars, from curriculum theorists to music teachers, from anthropologists to philosophers, this book takes the reader through a rocky intellectual terrain to explore what happens when one can no longer play or work. The driving question of the book is this: What do you do when you cannot do what you were called to do? This is what the author calls The Crisis of Psyche. The theoretical framework for this book combines curriculum theory, psychoanalysis and phenomenology. Here, the author looks at issues of emotion and the working through of crisis points in the lives of both scholars and musicians. Psychoanalytic theory helps to flesh out and untangle what it means to suffer from a damaged musical psyche and a damaged scholarly psyche. How to work through psychic inertia as a scholar? How to work through through psychic inertia as a musician? From Pink Floyd to Laurie Anderson, from Marion Milner to William F. Pinar, this book draws on the work of a wide range of musicians and scholars to find a way out of psychic blocks. From Philip Glass to Pablo Casals, from Michael Eigen to Mary Aswell Doll, this book draws on the work of composers, cellists, psychoanalysts and educationists to find a way out of psychic meltdowns.
