The Cows Go Walking Home by Jeff Hamilton,Lindsey Hamilton Pdf

Includes free downloadable audio sing-along tracks! Download a sample here: https: //goo.gl/etbi4g Having a favorite song that is sung repeatedly or a favorite story that is read again and again is almost a childhood "rite of passage." Yet when a charming story is paired with an unforgettable melody, this milestone is taken to a new level by the wonder of a Song Story. "The Cows Go Walking Home" relates the journey of a herd of cows in pursuit of their cozy barn. Written and intended to be sung to the classic folk tune "When Johnny Comes Marching Home," this Song Story counts from one to ten but is by no means an ordinary counting tale. These whimsical cows unfold a story that will have both young and experienced readers alike pleading, "Sing it again!"

Swedish Cinema and the Sexual Revolution by Elisabet Björklund,Mariah Larsson Pdf

Swedish cinema became recognized for daring representations of sexuality with such films as One Summer of Happiness (1951), The Silence (1963), I Am Curious (Yellow) (1967) and a wave of sex films in the late 1960s and 1970s. The association between Swedish film and sexuality shows up frequently in popular culture. From Taxi Driver (1976) to Mad Men (2007-2015), dirty Swedish movie references abound. Yet the connection has attracted little critical attention. In this collection of new essays, Swedish and American scholars go beyond popular misconceptions to explore the origins, influences and reception of sexuality in Swedish cinema during the "sexual revolution" on both sides of the Atlantic. A broad range of topics are covered, from analyses of key films, to a behind-the-scenes study of the Swedish Film Institute, which played a significant role in opposing Swedish film censorship.

Change and Tradition in Rural England by Denys Thompson Pdf

This 1980 anthology contains of some of the finest and most significant writing on English country life from Cobbett through Jefferies, Sturt, hardy, Hudson and Flora Thompson to Thomas Hennell and Adrian Bell. A good many of the selections are taken from books originally published by Cambridge University Press. None of the authors is nostalgic about country life. They all wanted a better future for country people but their primary aim was to describe what they saw. A survey is offered of the peasant civilisation of England, which, despite widespread poverty and hardship, encouraged people to go on living and produced a wealth of folk song and a wide range of craft-work. The authors go on to record the changes brought about by large-scale farming and the concomitant heavy investment in machinery and chemicals. Denys Thompson anticipates the anthology as a reminder of human achievement and potential, and his substantial general and sectional introductions show how the lessons and values of the past can be used to revitalise an industrial civilisation.

Home Is Where the Heart Is Even in a Chicken House by Margaret Hoff Pdf

God Bless America, My Home Sweet Home The Lord put on my heart to write Home Is Where the Heart Is Even in a Chicken House. It goes back to the day I was born and my childhood days growing up, days with my parents and living in a chicken house while my dad built a small three-room house for us to live in. Also, the book talks about me being bullied in school. I lived with my grandparents and my aunt on their farm in California for a while when I was a teenager. My aunt is one year and nine months older than me, and this also tells of the fun we had and the mischievous things that we did. This is telling the way things were growing up in my time, now called "the old-fashioned" days-houses, cars, games, and how kids made their own fun. I got married and had my own family, and time went on to be happy times. There were also heartaches that the Lord helped me through and healing, different places where the Lord intervened and spoke to me in many ways. I moved to Texas for eleven years and, later, on a ranch in South Dakota, then later, back to Ohio. I needed to support myself, and I started hauling Amish people, and I had different experiences with them. That was another fun time in my day. The best is yet to come! In the pages of this book, I think you will laugh, cry, and most of all, be blessed.

This is a comprehensive approach to music from the point of view of anthropology. The author maintains that ethnomusicology, by definition, must not divorce the sound-analysis of music from its cultural context of people thinking, acting, and creating.

An Evolving Tradition by Dave Thompson Pdf

The Child Ballads are a series of over 300 traditional ballads from England and Scotland that, along with their American variants, were anthologized by folklorist Francis James Child in the nineteenth century. An Evolving Tradition is the story of the Child Ballads—the world’s best-known and most highly regarded repository of traditional English folk songs, and the wellspring for approximately 10,000 recordings over the last century, from obscure musicological archives to classic releases from Bob Dylan, Simon & Garfunkel, and Led Zeppelin. Drawing on interviews with numerous scholars and musicians, author Dave Thompson explains what a ballad is, outlines their dominant themes, and recounts how these ballads survived to become a mainstay of field recordings made by Cecil Sharp, Alan Lomax, and others as they traveled the English and American countryside in search of old songs. Thompson traverses the entire spectrum of rock, pop, folk, roots, experimental music, industrial, and goth to reveal the remarkable legacy and incalculable influence of the Child Ballads on all manner of modern music.
