Sixshooter - A Science Fiction Western Adventure by Dean F Wilson Pdf

One land. Six gangs. All-out war. Nox, the Coilhunter, has spent years culling the number of gangs throughout the lawless land known as the Wild North, but the numbers keep on growing. Normally he has to gun them down one by one, but every so often the gangs do a little culling of their own. This time, a tit-for-tat feud has brought two gangs to the brink of war, with four more gangs pulled in from a string of uneasy alliances. The Wild North was bad enough, but these six powerful clans are about to show bad it can be. Caught between these six shooters, Nox'll have to use everything he's got to restore the peace. That'll include some six-shooters of his own. This is a standalone book in the Coilhunter Chronicles series, which can be read in any order.

Investigating Firefly and Serenity by Rhonda Wilcox,Tanya Cochran Pdf

Joss Whedon, probably the first recognised TV auteur, who brought us Buffy and Angel, is also the creator of the remarkable space Western "Firefly" and the major Firefly film "Serenity". "Firefly" ran for twelve hour-long episodes in 2002 before being cancelled by the network. But this premature burial had an extraordinary outcome: the fans - self-named Browncoats - just kept multiplying, buying the dvds, keeping the show alive with blogs, fan fiction, podcasts, their own films, meetings, conferences; their numbers increased when the major Firefly motion picture 'Serenity' was released in 2005.This book is the definitive one on both "Firefly" and "Serenity". It is ambitious, in-depth and comprehensive, covering all aspects, from detailed chapters on scenes and themes, through explorations of the music, the characters, actors and fans. It is written by over 20 of the best US and international Whedon scholars, tv and film critics and writers. It's the must-have book for followers of Whedon and his works and for students of quality and cult tv.

Fiction 2000 by George Edgar Slusser,T. A. Shippey Pdf

Will novels and stories be relevant in the next millennium, when the boundaries between illusion and reality, and observer and observed, may dissipate in a whirl of images, signals and data? This essay collection divines the prospects of fiction in the information age by examining cyberpunk literature. A movement less than a decade old, cyberpunk is driven by deep concerns about society, ethics, and new technology and has been defined as the literature of the first generation of science-fiction writers actually to live in a science-fiction world. These essays were first presented at the 1989 annual J. Lloyd Eaton Conference on Science Fiction and Fantasy Literature, the field's most prestigious international gathering. They address concerns common not only to cyberpunk and traditional science-fiction scholars, critics, and writers but to their counterparts outside the genre as well. Interdisciplinary in perspective, the essays consider the origins of cyberpunk, the appropriation of its conventions by the mass media, the literature's paradoxical retrogressive/iconoclastic nature, cyberpunk's affinities to and deviations from both traditional science fiction and postmodernist literature, the parameters and components of the cyberpunk canon, and the movement's future course. Some essays are theoretical, but all are grounded in works familiar to serious science-fiction readers: Neuromancer, Frontera, Deserted Cities of the Heart, Islands in the Net, Great Sky River, the Mirrorshades anthology, and others; cyberpunk TV and cinema like the Max Headroom programs, Blade Runner, and Tron; and precursory literature, including Frankenstein, Le Roman de l'avenir, Ralph I24C 41 +, and A Clockwork Orange. Useful for its views on a volatile science-fiction subgenre, Fiction 2000 is also valuable for what it tells us about the fate of mainstream literature.
