Madame President by Sharon Young Pdf

This is a story about a woman who runs for President of the United States. It involves international intrigue, alliances with Canada, a contest with the sitting President over whether to enter into a skirmish in an Eastern European country, and a former lover who ends up running against her. There is time spent in New York State on the campaign trail, debates with political rivals, a conflict against the possiblilty of an Arab alliance with a Central American country, dealing with oil exploitation in the Yukon, interplay with the campaign commitee, and encounters with the press, as well as an attempt on her life. The plot is high concept with dense plotting, but with light moments such as sexual interludes and one slapstick party scene involving a prime minister, a couple of senators, and a reporter. The writing is in the tradition of a carefully detailed plot, drawn out sparingly in a sensitive internal monologue, with a compelling love story and a personal encounter with the abortion issue.

Sharon Tate: Recollection by Debra Tate Pdf

Considered by many to be the most beautiful woman of her generation, Sharon Tate remains a fascinating pop icon and a poster child for the 1960s. What most struck those who knew Sharon was her gentle nature and the sheer perfection of her face, but she was far more than just a beauty. The few films she made during her brief career, including Valley of the Dolls, Eye of the Devil, and The Fearless Vampire Killers, have taken on a cult status. Over forty years since her last film, Sharon's spirit and charisma lives strong in the memories of those who knew her best, and her style continues to inspire the worlds of fashion, beauty, art, and film. Sharon Tate: Recollection is a one-of-a-kind celebration of Sharon's life and career, her influence as a fashion icon throughout the world, and in effect presents a sociological portrait of the 1960s—its youth culture, the sexual revolution, Hollywood's changing studio system, and the rise of independent cinema. In this dazzling photo book, Sharon Tate's story emerges through quotes and short essays—recollections—by her sister, Debra Tate, as well as by those who knew and who have been influenced by her. An all-star cast contributing memories and thoughts on Sharon includes Jack Nicholson, Warren Beatty, Robert Evans, Mia Farrow, Raquel Welch, Hugh Hefner, Michelle Phillips, Patty Duke, Barbara Parkins, Jane Fonda, Drew Barrymore, and Kelly Osbourne. The book is filled with hundreds of rare and unpublished photos of Sharon Tate taken by the likes of Milton Greene, David Bailey, Terry O'Neill, Richard Avedon, Bert Stern, Norman Parkinson, Philippe Halsman, John Engstead, and more. What emerges from these pages is a stunning tribute to an unforgettable life.

The 1960s Home by Paul Evans Pdf

The 1960s witnessed a sustained period of economic growth, consumer spending and stable employment. This hitherto unknown prosperity enabled a market growth in levels of owner occupation and a subsequent boom in the sale of household furnishings and luxury goods. The 1960s Home looks at the styles and fashions in domestic housing and interiors between 1960 and 1970. Although this period has received increasing attention in recent years, much of it has been concentrated on progressive and exclusive design rather than on the furniture and furnishing of the 'average' home.

Furniture and Interiors of the 1960s by Anne Bony Pdf

"The 1960s was a decade of exuberance, experimentation, and excess, a time when radical furniture design 'popped' as brightly as the new art, and traditional designs were recast with new materials. In this era of uncertainty and radical change, utopian ideals fueled new directions in furnishings and accessories that appeared in cutting-edge homes and offices around the world. [This book] pays homage to the vibrancy and buoyant energy of design trends from this bold decade of twentieth-century design, where everything seemed possible, a style that never went out of fashion"--Bookjacket.

From A to Eames by Lauren Whybrow Pdf

This sophisticated A to Z picture book for adults is an illustrated journey through midcentury modern design, perfect for any reader with a keen eye for style. With eighty tales of design, laid out in a fun and easy-to-read A to Z format, design lovers will be reading this book to each other before bed. With an irreverent structure, this becomes a picture book for the refined adult. Each letter delves into one facet of this enduring era of design: midcentury modern homes, interior design, graphic design, and illustration, as well as the iconic personalities. We might all recognize the names--Charles and Ray Eames, Farnsworth House, the Egg Chair, Henningsen, Elrod House, the case study houses--but what are their stories? This book delves right into the facts and does so light-heartedly. We learn of the grand inspirations, or sometimes (it turns out) the very simplest of ideas, which fueled these Goliaths of midcentury modern design. The only downside: with your newfound design-savvy, you won't be able to look at your IKEA chairs the same way again. If you didn't know that E stands for Eames, Egg Chair, and Elrod House (or don't know what any of those words actually mean) then this book belongs on your coffee table. And if you can't afford an Eames coffee table, then rejoice in knowing that From A to Eames makes an inexpensive and equally satisfying alternative.
