Cutaneous Flaps in Head and Neck Reconstruction by Vasilios K. Thomaidis Pdf

This textbook, containing a plethora of illustrations and pictures, will serve as an atlas and as a superb guide to the use of cutaneous flaps in head and neck reconstruction. Each chapter depicts, in a layered manner, the anatomy of a particular donor site from which flaps are derived and used in head and neck defects, providing systematic steps in understanding the topographical anatomy of the various tissue layers. The flaps derived from each donor site are presented in detail, with step-by-step instructions in flap design and harvesting techniques based in anatomy. The author uses numerous high-quality color illustrations drawn from his own practice in order to demonstrate the techniques. His combined expertise as a maxillofacial surgeon and an assistant professor of anatomy enables him to explain clearly the transition from basic science anatomy to applied anatomy and to document reconstructive surgical techniques in precise detail. This beautifully illustrated book, including many basic and advanced flap designs, will be an illuminating reference for all who treat defects in the head and neck area.

Making Decisions and Avoiding Complications in Skin Flaps by David H. Friedman,Payam Saadat Pdf

With a large number of clinical photographs, Making Decisions and Avoiding Complications in Skin Flaps is an atlas intended for the surgeon who already has a grasp of the fundamentals and mechanics of flap repair, but may need additional ideas on selecting an appropriate flap for a given defect. Divided into three sections, the book begins with a section on repairs organized by location on the body. Rather than an exhaustive list of all flaps ever used, the book focuses on the ones the authors have successfully used on a routine basis. The second section contains repairs organized by flap type and the third section contains clinical photographs of suboptimal results with a discussion of what may have gone wrong and what could have been done differently to obtain a better result. The intent of this text is not to showcase results but to present flap options for different defects and anatomic sites. Each example includes a photograph showing the defect and a second showing the repair. When available and/or of educational value, illustrations of the flap or long-term follow-up photos are supplied. Throughout the text, surgical pearls are presented in bold text which can help optimize a particular flap’s success rate and/or aesthetic outcome. These pearls have also been compiled into an addendum at the end of the book.

Simply Local Flaps by Michael F. Klaassen,Earle Brown,Felix Behan Pdf

This book provides a useful framework for categorizing local flaps on the basis of their composition, blood supply, geometry and means of transfer. The initial chapters are dedicated to the fundamentals – the basic procedures, how to get started, and technical tips – as well as advice on wound care and scar management. These practical pointers are essential for students of plastic surgery, while also offering helpful refreshers for experienced practitioners. The subsequent chapters describe the types of flaps that are traditionally taught and the 10 most common flaps. There is also a practical guide to W-plasty, Z-plasty and their various modifications, which can be applied to both scar revision and the closure of the donor sites. The book also discusses the Keystone Perforator Island Flap (KPIF) and its application to various body sites, offering elegant solutions to some very tricky situations. In turn, the book’s final chapters are focused on assessment, decision-making an d lessons learned – essentially, how to decide if a skin graft is the better choice, matters relating to aesthetics, and dealing with complications. Rather than demonstrate exactly how to execute flaps, the book’s primary goal is to inspire students and trainees to think about the reconstructive problem, consider all patient-related and anatomical factors, and accurately recognize what can feasibly be achieved.

Practical Techniques in Flap Surgery by Yuichi Hirase Pdf

This book was written for orthopedic and plastic surgeons who wish to learn about reconstructive surgery of the extremities and trunk. For reconstructions of the extremities and trunk, surgeons need information on both orthopedic and plastic surgery. However, orthopedic surgeons are generally not familiar with the reconstruction of soft tissue, and plastic surgeons have little experience with osseo-tendinous system reconstructions. For those reasons, there is a definite need for a book detailing both fields of surgery. Because many existing books focus on only the type of flap, it is difficult for doctors to distinguish which flap is best for their patients in need of reconstructive surgery. In this book, chapters are based not on the flap but the injury site. In the each chapter, pitfalls and candidate flaps are described for the reconstruction of each site. Additionally, the operative steps are explained with the help of numerous high-quality photos, offering a unique valuable resource for orthopedic and plastic surgeons faced with these challenges.

Atlas of Regional and Free Flaps for Head and Neck Reconstruction by Mark L. Urken,Mack L. Cheney,Keith E. Blackwell,Jeffrey R. Harris,Tessa A. Hadlock,Neal Futran Pdf

This Atlas depicts in a clear manner the use of regional skin, muscle and musculocutaneous flaps as well as donor sites from distant regions of the body where vascularized skin, muscle, bone, and nerves can be harvested and transferred to the head and neck. Otolaryngologists, plastic surgeons and general surgeons use both regional and free flaps to reconstruct damage to the head and neck caused by cancer and trauma. This Atlas provides the surgeon with techniques for mastering different donor sites needed to find solutions to virtually every reconstruction problem. It provides detailed descriptions of the anatomy and harvesting techniques of the major regional and free-flap donor sites currently employed in head and neck reconstruction.
