Software Reliability Modelling and Identification by Sergio Bittanti Pdf

This volume contains five tutorial papers based on the lectures given at the intensive course on Software Reliability Modelling and Identification in Como (Italy) from September 2 to 4, 1987. The purpose of this volume is to present some important models used to forecast the reliability growth during the software testing process, and discuss the practical applicability of models in the management of software techniques for model identification from data (parameter estimation, complexity selection, validation, etc.). The basic reliability concepts are also introduced for those readers who are not familiar with the reliability ideas. Besides the basic models, a new family of models is introduced in the book. This family is flexible enough to describe a variety of different reliability trends. Particular attention is given to the problem of the provision of tools to assist the user in selecting an appropriate model in a particular situation.

Software Reliability Modelling by M. Xie Pdf

This book summarizes the recent advances in software reliability modelling. Almost all the existing models are classified and the most interesting models are described in detail.Because of the application of software in many industrial, military and commercial systems, software reliability has become an important research area. Although there are many models and results appeared in different journals and conference proceedings, there is a lack of systematic publications on this subject. The aim of this book is to provide an overview of this area and provide software reliability researchers and analysts with a systematic study of the existing results. This book can also be used as a reference book for other software engineers and reliability theoreticians interested in this area.

Software Reliability by A. Bendell,P Mellor Pdf

Software Reliability reviews some fundamental issues of software reliability as well as the techniques, models, and metrics used to predict the reliability of software. Topics covered include fault avoidance, fault removal, and fault tolerance, along with statistical methods for the objective assessment of predictive accuracy. Development cost models and life-cycle cost models are also discussed. This book is divided into eight sections and begins with a chapter on adaptive modeling used to predict software reliability, followed by a discussion on failure rate in software reliability growth models. The next chapter deals with methods for predicting and estimating software reliability, with emphasis on their strengths and weaknesses. The reader is methodically introduced to formal inspection in software development; the effects of product design, program structure, development methods, and the environments of product testing and use on product reliability; and types of software metrics in relation to reliability. The remaining chapters explore the ways in which software engineers have sought to achieve software reliability through testing; problems and standards in software reliability data collection; and applications of time series models to software reliability analysis. This monograph will be of interest to software engineers and designers.

Contributions to Hardware and Software Reliability by P K Kapur,R B Garg,S Kumar Pdf

With better computing facilities now available, there is an ever-increasing need to ensure that elegant theoretical results on hardware reliability are computationally available. This book discusses those aspects which have relevance to computing systems and those where numerical computation was a problem. It is also well known that nearly 70% of the cost goes into software development and hence software reliability assumes special importance. The book not only gives an extensive review of the literature on software reliability but also provides direction in developing models which are flexible and can be used in a variety of testing environments. Besides, several alternative formulations of the release time problem are discussed along with variants such as allocation of testing effort resources to different modules of the software, or the testing effort control problem. Software reliability has now emerged as an independent discipline and requires a strong partnership between computer scientists, statisticians and operational researchers. This aspect is broadly highlighted in the book. Fuzzy Cognitive Maps by Michael Glykas Pdf

This important edited volume is the first such book ever published on fuzzy cognitive maps (FCMs). Professor Michael Glykas has done an exceptional job in bringing together and editing its seventeen chapters. The volume appears nearly a quarter century after my original article “Fuzzy Cognitive Maps” appeared in the International Journal of Man-Machine Studies in 1986. The volume accordingly reflects many years of research effort in the development of FCM theory and applications—and portends many more decades of FCM research and applications to come. FCMs are fuzzy feedback models of causality. They combine aspects of fuzzy logic, neural networks, semantic networks, expert systems, and nonlinear dynamical systems. That rich structure endows FCMs with their own complexity and lets them apply to a wide range of problems in engineering and in the soft and hard sciences. Their partial edge connections allow a user to directly represent causality as a matter of degree and to learn new edge strengths from training data. Their directed graph structure allows forward or what-if inferencing. FCM cycles or feedback paths allow for complex nonlinear dynamics. Control of FCM nonlinear dynamics can in many cases let the user encode and decode concept patterns as fixed-point attractors or limit cycles or perhaps as more exotic dynamical equilibria. These global equilibrium patterns are often “hidden” in the nonlinear dynamics. The user will not likely see these global patterns by simply inspecting the local causal edges or nodes of large FCMs.
