ON LIFE'S TERMS by Richard Wanderman, M.D. Pdf

Choices in Life. Visions float in and out of our consciousness, reminding us of past experiences and future desires. Each has its emotional value, a price tag exacted from our being. Some bring soothing thoughts to relax our tense muscles; others promote anxiety or simply unpleasantness. No matter which form it takes, we have a choice of our reaction—sad, happy, upset, angry. Frustration can give way to serenity. Find the positive, which is ever-present, and choose to see it as it is meant.

Hey Ho Let's Go: The Story of the Ramones by Everett TRUE Pdf

From their 1974 debut at New York's premier punk dive, through the classic albums and blistering live sets, The Ramones cut an unforgettable swathe through two decades of pop, setting the scene for punk and hardcore with honed-down songs and ferocious 20 minute sets, but always putting the music first. Seen through the eyes of the people who were there at the time, including musicians, managers, producers, publicists and New York punk scenesters, this book shows the heroic Ramones staying faithful to their own unique musical vision right to the bitter end. This updated edition now climaxes with the sad death of guitarist Johnny Ramone.

The Concert Song Companion by Charles Osborne Pdf

W HAT I H A V E attempted in this book is a survey of song; the kind of song which one finds variously described as 'concert', 'art', or sometimes even 'classical song'. 'Concert song' seems the most useful, certainly the least inexact or misleading, of some descriptions, especially since 'art song' sounds primly off putting, and 'classical song' really ought to be used only to refer to songs written during the classical period, i. e. the 18th century. Concert song clearly means the kind of songs one hears sung at concerts or recitals. Addressing myself to the general music-lover who, though he possesses no special knowledge of the song literature, is never theless interested enough in songs and their singers to attend recitals of Lieder or of songs in various languages, I have naturally confined myself to that period of time in which the vast majority of these songs was composed, though not necessarily only to those composers whose songs have survived to be remembered in recital programmes today. I suppose this to be roughly the three centuries covered by the years 1650-1950, though most of the songs we, as audiences, know and love were composed in the middle of this period, in other words in the 19th century.

Marky Ramone by Marky Ramone Pdf

THE FINAL WORD ON THE GENIUS AND MISCHIEF OF THE RAMONES, TOLD BY THE MAN WHO KEPT THE BEAT - AND LIVED TO TELL ABOUT IT. When punk rock reared its spiky head in the early seventies, Marc Bell had the best seat in the house. Already a young veteran of the prototype American metal band Dust, Bell took residence in artistic, seedy Lower Manhattan, where he played drums in bands that would shape rock music for decades to come, including Wayne County, who pioneered transsexual rock, and Richard Hell and the Voidoids, who directly inspired the entire early British punk scene. If punk has royalty, Marc became part of it in 1978 when he was anointed 'Marky Ramone' by Johnny, Joey, and Dee Dee of the iconoclastic Ramones. The band of tough misfits were a natural fit for Marky, who dressed punk before there was punk, and who brought with him his 'blitzkrieg' style of drumming, as well as the studio and stage experience the group needed to solidify its line-up. Together, they would change the world. But Marky Ramone changed, too. The epic wear and tear of a dysfunctional group endlessly crisscrossing the country and the planet in a van - practically a psychiatric ward on wheels - drove Marky from partying to alcoholism. When his life started to look more out of control than Dee Dee's, he knew he had a problem. Marky left music in the mid-eighties to enter recovery and returned to help the Ramones finally receive their due as one of the greatest and most influential bands of all time. From the cult film Rock 'n' Roll High School to 'I Wanna Be Sedated' to Marky's own struggles, Punk Rock Blitzkrieg is an authentic, unflinching, and always honest look at the people who reinvented rock music. And not a moment too soon.

In the end - A tribute to Chester Bennington by Rosanna Costantino Pdf

«It starts with… A boy born on March 20, 1976, a skinny little boy with his contagious laugh, a boy whose childhood was stolen. Then the boy turned into a man with a great passion for music, a man who made his dream come true, becoming one of the most famous singers of all times, a man who was a wonderful friend, husband, father, a man who, behind that joyful and lighthearted facade, hid demons so wicked and devious you couldn’t imagine. Chester was all of this. In this amazing tribute, Rosanna Costantino was able to transmute the emotions and the feelings of every fan in the world into written words, opening her heart. At the same time, she also described in detail the life of this great man, from the day he was born to his tragic death, what his bandmates, his friends, and Linkin Park fans have experienced, and how they were able to hold on and stay strong together. Chester and Linkin Park are a source of inspiration for all the soldiers, their music saved so many lives, they told us not to give up through their lyrics, they made us feel invincible, they are our heroes and now, with Rosanna’s book, we can have a little piece of Chester to always keep with us.» Paola Trogu

Seeds of Grace by Molly Monahan Pdf

A surprising and enlightening assessment of AA-its basic tenets and how it works on the spirit-by a nun and recovering alcoholic. When Sister Molly Monahan joined Alcoholics Anonymous she was looking for the help and support she needed to stop drinking. But what she found was something more, something that surprised her: a deeper spirituality than she had ever experienced in her religious community. How could a nonreligious group espousing the most basic of spiritual beliefs have anything to teach a nun who had already spent three decades steeped in the values, rituals, and traditions of the contemplative life? The mystery of the effectiveness of AA has yet to be explained. This book looks at that question in new, interesting, and important ways. In Seeds of Grace, Sister Molly Monahan traces her progress through the Twelve Steps and identifies the lessons that Alcoholics Anonymous has to instruct all of us about grace, forgiveness, community, and, in AA parlance, "the God of our understanding." Along the way, through a series of meditations, she shares her insights on why AA works, how it works, and how it has changed her life and the lives of millions of people.

Out of the Ghetto by Sean Harrison Pdf

Sean Harrison completed his studies at one of the most prestigious medical centers in New York City in the spring of 1982. For three decades, he worked in a profession where he excelled and provided his family with a lifestyle, he never dreamed possible. For it is a far cry from his senior year of high school when his classmates voted him as “the most likely to be dead by the time he’s thirty.” Harrison shares his life story, revealing how anyone open-minded and willing can experience a dramatic shift in consciousness, from an inner-ghetto mentality to a new way of being. Harrison focuses on what he calls the four pillars of addiction—fear, guilt, resentment, and self-pity—responsible for most of the unhappiness we see in the world today. Out of the Ghetto is designed to help the addict and non-addict alike, offering practical ways to erase the errors of our past and begin anew. Harrison’s fundamental belief is that anyone who suffers from the pain of living can change the way they live by altering their thoughts, free from the ego’s distorted perceptions of reality. Praise for Out of the Ghetto “Riveting, revolutionary, and raw, this is a book for the ages.” —Shannon Tushingham, Ph.D., Director, Museum of Anthropology, WSU “A gifted storyteller, Sean takes us inside his twenty-year battle with active addiction. Whether you are new to recovery or have been a seeker for many years, there is great spiritual wisdom awaiting you throughout the pages of this book.” —Ronnie G, A grateful recovering addict, 11/25/1982 “Insightful and timely, Out of the Ghetto is a must-read for anyone charged with evaluating and treating this complex and often fatal disease.” —Samer Assaf, MD, Internal Medicine Sharp Reese-Stealy “Having worked in the field of addiction for over a decade, I highly recommend this book to anyone suffering directly or indirectly from its devastating effects. It is a brilliant, transparent account of one man’s journey from the hopelessness of addiction through all aspects of the recovery process in a brutally honest, humorous, and compassionate way.” —Sharon Daverio RN, LCSW, CASAC
