Perceptions and Behavior in Soviet Foreign Policy by Richard K. Herrmann Pdf

This book discerns Soviet leaders' views of the United States and sees them in relation to foreign policy statements and actions. Hermann first examines the subtle problem of analyzing perceptions and interpreting motives from the words and deeds of national leaders. He then turns to cases, measuring the dominant U.S. hypotheses about the USSR against Soviet behavior in Central Europe, the Middle East, Africa, and Asia, as well as Soviet participation in the arms race. Finally, he weighs his conclusions against a thematic study of speeches and publications by members of the Politburo.

Soviet Perceptions Of The U.S. Congress by Robert T Huber Pdf

The study of Soviet attitudes towards the role of Congress in U.S. foreign policy concerns an area of Soviet foreign policy considerations that has received little attention by Western scholars and that offers valuable new insights for the study of Soviet foreign policy and U.S.-Soviet relations. As such, this initial treading onto empirical virgin lands has required the thoughtful, meticulous, and in many instances indispensable guidance and support of a number of individuals.

The Other Side by Robert (Robert D.) English,Jonathan J. Halperin Pdf

What do Soviets think of Americans? What do they learn from books, newspapers, and films about life in America? How do we, as Americans form opinions about life in the U.S.S.R? Through the selective use of both Soviet and American materials, The Other Side explores these and other provocative questions that are central to public understanding of how perceptions affect U.S.-Soviet relations. The Other Side also examines the many differences between Soviet and American media, such as the role of the press, and offers article-by-article comparisons of Soviet and American press coverage of the same events. Appropriate for citizen of all ages, and groups as well as individuals, The Other Side includes a Reader's Guide, suggested educational projects, an annotated bibliography, and guidance for discussion leaders.

U.S. Leadership Perceptions of the Soviet Problem Since 1945 by Anonim Pdf

For 35 years, the Soviet Union has presented American political leaders with their most pressing foreign policy problem. Throughout this period the Soviet Union, like other countries, has undergone constant change. Although this change has worked to reshape the perceptions of American leaders, it has not ended an ongoing debate in the United States about the 'essential' character of the Soviet system. This in turn has made consensus on a long-term strategy for dealing with the Soviet Union difficult to achieve. In an effort to probe the roots of the ongoing dissension in the U.S. foreign policy community, this report analyzes the three early postwar alternatives--termination by accommodation, termination by victory, and long-term management--and shows how the early debates on these alternatives influenced later American thinking. In addition, the report suggests some of the underlying reasons why termination appealed to those who were confronted for the first time with the Soviet problem, and why, despite the standoff of the past 35 years, termination continues to exert a residual appeal with elites and with the general public. The Elusive Balance by William Curti Wohlforth Pdf

"This is a book about power in world politics in general and about the relationship between the Soviet Union and the balance of power during the Cold War in particular. Its empirical core is an investigation of how members of the Soviet political elite thought about the problem of power in world politics, mainly during the years between 1945 and 1989"--Page 1.
