Speak Malayalam in Ten Weeks by John Kunnathu,Lissy John Pdf

Speak Malayalam in Ten Weeks is a new book by John D. Kunnathu & Lissy John. This book helps the speakers of English to gain the basic skills of speaking, listening, reading and writing Malayalam. This book was created as a second part to their earlier work, "Learn Basic Malayalam in Six weeks," which was found helpful by hundreds of people in the US and Europe. This book has ten lessons, which are built around ten children's songs, which have been sung by Yesudas, the well-known singer. The songs are based on the traditional popular animal fables. Thus the learners have the opportunity to learn Malayalam as presented through the voice of Yesudas. By the end of the ten lessons, a learner will be able to listen and understand Malayalam. The learner will also gain the ability to speak Malayalam. Our first book focused on the skills of reading and writing, but this one focuses on listening and speaking. This book makes use of the contemporary knowledge of the language and the contemporary ways of learning. Someone with a basic knowledge of the writing system of Malayalam can easily follow this book, and rise to a higher level. A reviewer, Andre Pleasant, wrote: Great helper for learning a new language. Wonderful book! Another reviewer, Reba M, wrote: This book was a very thorough and helpful tool in helping me to learn how to speak Malayalam!

Learn Malayalam in 30 Days Through English by Krishna Gopal Vikal Pdf

The greatest sensation of life is to learn a language. One has to closely watch a child going through this experience, to be convinced of this. Every time he learn a new word or construction from mother, fattier or other relatives, his heart is filled with wonder, excitement, thrill and creative urge and he toys with its various forms and tones bringing into play all the creative forces within him. To learn a new language is to re-enter this wonderful experience of life, opening infinite opportunities for creative action. Besides, in a fast expandin, world transcending all barriers of colour, caste, religion and language, a new language is an essential tool of life. The book primarily attempts to introduce those whose mother tongue is not Malayalam learning of Malyalam by the most natural and the simplest method. It adopts the scientific approach, introducing alphabets, words, sentences in that order and application of these in the most common situations of daily life. Situational sentences and converstaional sentences selected for the book reflect the maximum possible commonness of Indian languages and Indian culture. The purpose is that the learner during the process of learning should be sufficiently equipped to converse and transact with a very vast section of Malyalam speaking people throughout India and abroad.

Malayalam Alphabet by John Kunnathu,Lissy Kunnathu Pdf

This is a workbook for those who learn to write Malayalam Alphabet. The focus is on the shape of the letters, and on how to write them. The letters are ordered from simple to complex, so that the learners won't be intimidated by the few complex ones. The letters are classified into base forms, short forms, and combined forms. A page is devoted for each letter. At the top left you see the letter along with the direction as to how to write it. A star indicates the place to start writing a letter. At the top right you see a little help as to its sound. Also you see a few words in which the letter occurs. Then you see in six rows six sets of the letter in dotted lines in varying sizes. The biggest ones are at the top, and they become smaller as they go down. The learner is not supposed to write all of them together. In the first week, the learner may write only the ones in the first row. He/she may visit as many pages as time permits, but he/she should stay within the first row. In the second week, he/she may come back and do the second row of each of those pages he/she visited. Thus the learner needs to spend a minimum of six weeks to complete the entire book. If the learner is a child, he/she should be directed to stick to the plan of one row per week. Filling each page fully before going to the next won't serve the purpose. As the learner writes a letter, he/she needs to sound it too, so that each letter will be associated with the sound it represents. All Malayalam sounds don't have English equivalents. The learner will have to seek the help of a native speaker if available. The learner may also search in Youtube for Malayalam alphabet pronunciation, and listen from there. There is also a list of a few common words and a few sentences toward the end of the book. This is the very first book a level 1 learner of Malayalam may use. The same authors have made two more books available for the next levels. Learn Basic Malayalam in Six Weeks is level 2, and Speak Malayalam in Ten Weeks is level 3. A reviewer, Shija Abraham, wrote: "Malayalam Alphabet Practice Workbook by John Kunnathu and Lissy John is very well organized with mainly English-speaking people/kids in mind. Equivalent English sound for all vowels and consonants with a practice page is given for each letter. To help beginners, arrows are shown in the direction in which each letter is written. It also covers stressed consonants, consonant combinations, short form of consonants and consonants without a vowel. The book ends with some common words and sentences which also give a short history of the Malayalam language. The book provides a plan to learn the language in 6 weeks. The Kunnathu's experience as educators is very well displayed in the structure and the content of the book. I highly recommend this book for all beginners."

Why I Write by George Orwell Pdf

George Orwell set out ‘to make political writing into an art’, and to a wide extent this aim shaped the future of English literature – his descriptions of authoritarian regimes helped to form a new vocabulary that is fundamental to understanding totalitarianism. While 1984 and Animal Farm are amongst the most popular classic novels in the English language, this new series of Orwell’s essays seeks to bring a wider selection of his writing on politics and literature to a new readership. In Why I Write, the first in the Orwell’s Essays series, Orwell describes his journey to becoming a writer, and his movement from writing poems to short stories to the essays, fiction and non-fiction we remember him for. He also discusses what he sees as the ‘four great motives for writing’ – ‘sheer egoism’, ‘aesthetic enthusiasm’, ‘historical impulse’ and ‘political purpose’ – and considers the importance of keeping these in balance. Why I Write is a unique opportunity to look into Orwell’s mind, and it grants the reader an entirely different vantage point from which to consider the rest of the great writer’s oeuvre. 'A writer who can – and must – be rediscovered with every age.' — Irish Times
