Speaking Skills for Teens Instructor Manual by Gail A. Cassidy Pdf

Speaking Skills for Teens trains students to learn effective speaking skills and also motivates students to view themselves and their classmates in an optimistic manner. Because they can find only positives in each talk given by their peers, that is the way they start viewing each presenter even before the talk begins. Through active participation, students learn how to maximize their speaking skills, their poise, and their recognition of their own skills and abilities. In addition to learning actual skills—openings, evidence, closings, body language, and attitude training, participants learn how to use their voice to produce the greatest effect. They have the opportunity to practice being as they would like to be. Participants will learn far more than speaking skills. They learn how to take responsibility for how they feel, how they act, how they react. The training allows them to see people in a more positive manner. They learn how to “read” people and become aware of how they themselves are “read.” Students evaluate every speaker in writing immediately after their talk. Only positive comments are allowed—for substance, delivery, or impact. The teacher writes an area for improvement on a card and will add a positive statement immediately after each talk that only the speaker sees. At the end of the course, each student receives the evaluations from every classmate. While participants may eventually forget facts and figures learned elsewhere, they will retain much of what they master in this course, because they will have constant opportunities to be on their feet and institute that which they have learned. They will also have many opportunities to laugh, cry, and genuinely feel good—perhaps the greatest way to solidify their learning!

What We Know about Teaching Teenagers: A Guide for Teachers, Parents, and Administrators by Dr. Richard A. NeSmith Pdf

"What we know about teaching Teenagers", 2019 I would like to thank Dr. Richard NeSmith for helping me know more about what goes through teenagers’ minds and grow into a better teacher. Dr. NeSmith’s 28-plus years of teaching experience and careful study of biology, developmental and cognitive psychology make him one of the best experts in the field. His book explains the difficulties students have learning at school and reflects on how to overcome them, promoting a better understanding of the changes going on in teenagers’ lives as well as an elementary understanding of what causes pain points in the brain of the adult-in-the-making. Above all, Dr. NeSmith reminds us that teenagers are individuals, with their personality, strengths, weaknesses, and their ways of showing love and concern. The book has been carefully researched and will make you aware of the cognitive-emotional interactions going on inside the mind of preadolescents to improve your teaching strategies. It is such a privilege to teach and take teenagers from childhood to adulthood. Whether you are a parent, a teacher, or a school administrator you will find in this book strategies to facilitate learning and encourage lifelong learning. =========================================================================== A research-based book addressing brain-based learning and how secondary age students best learn and how teachers can best teach to meet those needs. American public education is on life support like never before. Why? The shift from LEARNING to standardized testing, ticking boxes for administrators, and watering down curricula are some of the reasons. This synthesis of brain-based research emphasizes how students best learn. It is NOT a checklist, it is a strategy that empowered teachers can utilize to improve student learning. But, knowing how teens think enables teachers to know HOW TEENS best LEARN. --Dr. Richard NeSmith

These essential aspects of social behavior are not mere facts but rather fundamental building blocks that contribute significantly to a child's overall development and future success. As a global authority in child psychology, I underscore the essential role that children's etiquettes and manners play in facilitating mutual understanding between children and their parents. First and foremost, children's etiquettes and manners are necessary tools for effective communication. Politeness, respect, and consideration are the bases of civilized discourse. By teaching children how to express themselves politely and respectfully, parents pave the way for harmonious interactions within the family unit. When children are equipped with the ability to articulate their thoughts and feelings in a courteous manner, parents can better realize their needs, fears, and desires, leading to enhanced empathy and understanding. Additionally, teaching children good manners instills discipline and self-control, two qualities that are invaluable in any developmental stage. By observing to established social norms, children learn to regulate their impulses and emotions. This self-regulation not only aids in maintaining peace within the family but also contributes to a child's emotional intelligence. Parents who prioritize etiquette and manners in their child-rearing approach often find that their children are better equipped to handle stress, frustration, and conflict, thus fostering a deeper understanding between parent and child. A well-mannered child is also more likely to develop positive noble relationships. The social skills acquired through learning and practicing good etiquette enable children to navigate the complex ground of noble interactions with grace and ease. As children grow, they rely increasingly on friends for emotional support and friendship. By instilling good manners early on, parents empower their children to build healthy friendships, further enhancing their social and emotional development. A child who understands the importance of respecting others' boundaries and feelings is more likely to form lasting, meaningful connections with peers, which, in turn, can lead to increased parental insight into their child's social world. Children's etiquettes and manners also play an essential role in their academic success. In educational settings, politeness and respect are essential for productive learning environments. A child who respects their teachers, classmates, and school rules is more likely to excel academically. Moreover, children with good manners tend to be more cooperative, attentive, and open to learning, enabling parents to better comprehend their child's educational needs and aspirations. Effective communication between parents and teachers is paramount in ensuring a child's academic progress, and the presence of good manners facilitates this communication. As children progress through different stages of development, they encounter various challenges and opportunities for personal growth. It is essential for parents to be attuned to their child's evolving needs and emotions. Etiquette and manners serve as a compass, guiding children through these transitions while allowing parents to remain actively engaged and supportive. When children practice empathy, gratitude, and consideration, parents gain deeper insights into their child's values, beliefs, and character, fostering a profound bond of understanding and trust. children's etiquettes and manners are not superficial facts but essential components of their holistic development. These virtues prepare children with the tools necessary to navigate the complexities of social interactions, foster positive relationships, excel academically, and confront the challenges of personal growth. As parents, it is our responsibility to instill and reinforce these qualities in our children, not only for their benefit but also to enhance our mutual understanding and strengthen the parent-child bond. Through the cultivation of good manners and etiquettes, we lay the foundation for a brighter future filled with respect, empathy, and harmonious family dynamics.
