Specifying by Susan Willis Pdf

Focusing on Zola Neale Hurston, Paule Marshall, Toni Morrison, Alice Walker, and Toni Cade Bambara, this book explores both the ways in which black women's fictions have been shaped by the history of the United states, and the ways in which they intervene in that history. She sees the transition from an agrarian to an urban society as the critical moment of that history, and argues that writings by black women articulate that change in their content as well as form. Specifying Buildings by Stephen Emmitt,David T Yeomans Pdf

Selecting the best materials, techniques and systems for each project and then specifying them correctly to meet all the requirements of quality, time, value, constructability, maintenance and durability is a fundamental aspect of architectural design. It also helps to determine the quality and environmental impact of the project. Specifying Buildings: A Design Management Perspective provides a unique insight into the entire specification process, from selecting materials and products to writing the specification, dealing with changes and minimising risk. This new edition has been extensively revised and includes new case studies, research findings and reviews to illustrate how to translate design intent into building assembly. The book is structured to meet the needs of students on construction-related programmes such as architecture, engineering, surveying and construction management. It provides valuable insights and practical guidance, with end of chapter exercises helping students achieve a thorough understanding of the specification process

Standards of Practice in Construction Specifying by Dennis J. Hall,Nina M. Giglio Pdf

Construction Specifications provide critical information necessary to convey the design intent of the Architect and the legally enforceable contract requirements. Many factors must be considered by the Architect in the development of written construction documents, including project delivery method, project ownership, sustainability, and code requirements. This companion guide to the 2013 AIA National Convention Presentation "Architect's Guide to Construction Specifications" provides excerpts from important industry publications regarding the preparation of construction documents. Material was carefully selected from the following books: CSI Construction Specifications Practice Guide Architect’s Guide to the US National CAD Standard CSI Construction Contract Administration Practice Guide Architect’s Handbook of Professional Practice 14e Additional excerpts have been provided from CSI Formats to provide an overview of organizational standards for Specifications including: MasterFormat SectionFormat/PageFormat PPDFormat Added material includes examples for comment document types, which can also be used as templates: Outline Specification; Short Form Specification; Certification and Seals Page; and Addendum This e-only book is an essential companion to the presentation or can stand alone as a necessary reference providing users ready access to key understanding of the methods of specifying; organizing structures for building information; and other components that should be considered in the preparation of a project manual.

Specifying Software by R. D. Tennent Pdf

Provides an innovative hands-on introduction to techniques for specifying the behaviour of software components. It is primarily intended for use as a text book for a course in the 2nd or 3rd year of Computer Science and Computer Engineering programs, but it is also suitable for self-study. Using this book will help the reader improve programming skills and gain a sound foundation and motivation for subsequent courses in advanced algorithms and data structures, software design, formal methods, compilers, programming languages, and theory. The presentation is based on numerous examples and case studies appropriate to the level of programming expertise of the intended readership. The main topics covered are techniques for using programmer-friendly assertional notations to specify, develop, and verify small but non-trivial algorithms and data representations, and the use of state diagrams, grammars, and regular expressions to specify and develop recognizers for formal languages.

Specifying Statistical Models by J.P. Florens,M. Mouchart,J.P. Raoult,L. Simar,A.F.M. Smith Pdf

During the last decades. the evolution of theoretical statistics has been marked by a considerable expansion of the number of mathematically and computationaly trac table models. Faced with this inflation. applied statisticians feel more and more un comfortable: they are often hesitant about their traditional (typically parametric) assumptions. such as normal and i. i. d . • ARMA forms for time-series. etc . • but are at the same time afraid of venturing into the jungle of less familiar models. The prob lem of the justification for taking up one model rather than another one is thus a crucial one. and can take different forms. (a) ~~~£ifi~~~iQ~ : Do observations suggest the use of a different model from the one initially proposed (e. g. one which takes account of outliers). or do they render plau sible a choice from among different proposed models (e. g. fixing or not the value of a certai n parameter) ? (b) tlQ~~L~~l!rQ1!iIMHQ~ : How is it possible to compute a "distance" between a given model and a less (or more) sophisticated one. and what is the technical meaning of such a "distance" ? (c) BQe~~~~~~ : To what extent do the qualities of a procedure. well adapted to a "small" model. deteriorate when this model is replaced by a more general one? This question can be considered not only. as usual. in a parametric framework (contamina tion) or in the extension from parametriC to non parametric models but also.

Specifying Message Passing and Time-Critical Systems with Temporal Logic by Ron Koymans Pdf

Free radicals, which are key intermediates in many thermal, photochemical and radiation processes, are important for a proper understanding of fundamental natural processes and the successful development of organic syntheses. After about one decade volume II/18 serves as a supplement and extension to volume II/13 and covers rate constants and other kinetic data of free radical reactions in liquids. Furthermore II/18 contains new chapters on reactions of radicals in excited states and of carbenes, nitrenes and analogues. Selected species in aqueous solutions for which other compilations are available were deliberately omitted as before, and for the same reason electron transfer equilibria of organic radicals were not covered.

Specifying and Securing a Social Minimum in the Battle Against Poverty by Toomas Kotkas,Ingrid Leijten,Frans Pennings Pdf

This book addresses a topic that is currently high on the agenda in many fora: how to specify and secure a social minimum. The term 'social minimum' has different meanings, depending on the context. These contexts are examined in this book from different perspectives, including law, sociology, philosophy, politics and economics. In the first part, the social minimum is discussed from a conceptual and theoretical point of view. The second part shows the various ways in which the social minimum can be specified and measured. There is a need for new indicators that take into account, for instance, aspects of adequate social participation. As this part shows, the choice of indicators is closely intertwined with political choices. The third part approaches the social minimum from the perspective of legal obligations, addressing the nature of different obligations imposed on individuals and states. The fourth part deals with the question of social minimum in the context of courts, adjudication and justiciability. The role of international treaties and national constitutions – the interpretation of the rights they enshrine and the way these are dealt with by expert committees and courts – is discussed with a view to understanding how the guarantee of a social minimum can be promoted within individual countries. Besides being of interest for academics in fields ranging from legal theory and human rights to the social sciences, the book also serves as an important source for students as well as practitioners interested in the social minimum, and anyone who wants to gain an insight into the current debates on this extremely important issue.
