Training Your Mind for Split-Second Decisions by Geoffrey Mount Varner Pdf

We make about 35,000 decisions every day. Most of them are mundane and not significant, but about 70 of those decisions are life-changing and life-altering split-second decisions. What are split-second decisions? They are decisions made when the following factors are involved: time constraint, limited information, and critical consequences. This is also known as the TLC framework. In this book, you will learn: ① Specific strategies to improve and maximize your split-second decision-making ability. ② To manage decision fatigue, which is the decrease in your ability to make optimal decisions as the day progresses, especially if you had to make several mundane decisions throughout the day. ③ The required rules for making split-second decisions- i.e., no decision is a decision. You must decide. If you are an executive, business leader, chief, first responder, or in a leadership role, the framework for split-second decisions is a tool that gives you an advantage in making optimal decisions at the most critical times. When making split-second decisions, you have either been trained or you are guessing. The same is true for your employees and those you lead. They have either been taught and have a clear framework for what and how to respond during these critical times, or they are guessing. Split-second decisions teach extraordinary leaders how to make exceptional decisions and help move good teams to greatness.

We Dissent by Michael Avery Pdf

The lawyers and legal commentators who contribute to We Dissent unanimously agree that during Chief Justice William Rehnquist’s nineteen-year tenure, the Supreme Court failed to adequately protect civil liberties and civil rights. This is evident in majority opinions written for numerous cases heard by the Rehnquist Court, and eight of those cases are re-examined here, with contributors offering dissents to the Court’s decisions. The Supreme Court opinions criticized in We Dissent suggest that the Rehnquist Court placed the interests of government above the people, and as the dissents in this book demonstrate, the Court strayed far from our constitutional ideals when it abandoned its commitment to the protection of the individual rights of Americans. Each chapter focuses on a different case—ranging from torture to search and seizure, and from racial profiling to the freedom of political expression—with contributors summarizing the case and the decision, and then offering their own dissent to the majority opinion. For some cases featured in the book, the Court’s majority decisions were unanimous, so readers can see here for the first time what a dissent might have looked like. In other cases, contributors offer alternative dissents to the minority opinion, thereby widening the scope of opposition to key civil liberties decision made by the Rehnquist Court. Taken together, the dissents in this unique book address the pressing issue of Constitutional protection of individual freedom, and present a vision of constitutional law in the United States that differs considerably from the recent jurisprudence of the United States Supreme Court. Contributors: Michael Avery, Erwin Chemerinsky,Marjorie Cohn, Tracey Maclin, Eva Paterson, Jamin Raskin, David Rudovsky, Susan Kiyomi Serrano, and Abbe Smith.

Sources of Power by Gary A. Klein Pdf

Anyone who watches the television news has seen images of firefighters rescuing people from burning buildings and paramedics treating bombing victims. How do these individuals make the split-second decisions that save lives? Most studies of decision making, based on artificial tasks assigned in laboratory settings, view people as biased and unskilled. Gary Klein is one of the developers of the naturalistic decision making approach, which views people as inherently skilled and experienced. It documents human strengths and capabilities that so far have been downplayed or ignored. Since 1985, Klein has conducted fieldwork to find out how people tackle challenges in difficult, nonroutine situations. Sources of Power is based on observations of humans acting under such real-life constraints as time pressure, high stakes, personal responsibility, and shifting conditions. The professionals studied include firefighters, critical care nurses, pilots, nuclear power plant operators, battle planners, and chess masters. Each chapter builds on key incidents and examples to make the description of the methodology and phenomena more vivid. In addition to providing information that can be used by professionals in management, psychology, engineering, and other fields, the book presents an overview of the research approach of naturalistic decision making and expands our knowledge of the strengths people bring to difficult tasks.

DECISION MAKING by PRABHU TL Pdf

Let's start with a definition of decision-making. Selecting decisions is exactly what it sounds like: the act or process of making choices. We make logical decisions on occasion, but we also make emotional, irrational, and perplexing ones on a regular basis. Every day, we are confronted with events that force us to make decisions. Some of these decisions are simple, while others might be challenging. Simple decisions include things like what to wear; most individuals choose what to wear based on the season of the year, the weather of the day, and where they plan to go. Other simple decisions include what to eat, which movie to see, and which television shows to watch. The most difficult decisions appear to be those that need a higher level of thought. Things like where to go to college, what job route to take, and whether or not to marry and establish a family are examples of difficult decisions. These decisions are difficult because they affect our entire lives; they form who we are and how we will live in the future. Good decision-making is a skill that must be taught. It is not something we are born with, but rather a step-by-step process that is usually learned via life experience. Most adults are aware that experience is a costly, ineffective teacher who teaches more bad habits than good; and because decisions differ so dramatically from one situation to the next, the experience gained from making one important decision is frequently of little or no use when faced with a new decision-making challenge.

When Texas Prison Scams Religion by Michael G. Maness Pdf

When Texas Prison Scams Religion exposes corruption in the Texas Department of Criminal Justice, especially in the abuse of religion. In many ways, this book is a literature review of 1,800-plus works that defends freedom of conscience in prison while exposing the unconstitutionality of the seminary program that “buys faith with favor” from prisoners. The state veritably ordains the prisoner a “Field Minister” that represents the offices of the Governor, TDCJ Director, and wardens throughout the prison. Therein, TDCJ lies about neutrality in a program all about Christian missions and lies again in falsely certifying elementary Bible students as counselors. Why is the director sponsoring psychopaths counseling psychopaths? In fact, TDCJ pays $314 million a year to UTMB for psychiatric care and receives not a single report of the care given, and worse, for UTMB generates no reports itself. The underbelly TDCJ’s executive culture of cover up is exposed. TDCJ has hired the lowest qualified of the applicant pool many times in the last 25 years and regularly destroys statistics on violence. TDCJ Dir. Collier led the prison to model Louisiana Warden Burl Cain, the most scandal-ridden in penal history according to a host of published news stories for 20 years. Therein, Collier led TDCJ to favor the smallest segment of religious society within Evangelical Dominionism. Texas has no business endorsing the truth of any religion over another. We close with a proposal that utilizes the 400,000,000 hours of officer contact over ten years as a definitive influence in contrast to a commissioner that spends less than 10 minutes on each decision. Maness has been lobbying Austin for 15 years to definitively access staff for his “100,000 Mothers’ 1% Certainty Parole Texas Constitutional Amendment,” which would revolutionize prison culture and save Texans millions of the dollars.
