My Mammy and Pappy would let me look through their Bible for pictures. In it were handkerchiefs, flowers and notes all neatly laid out under particular pages. I'm sure these had some very important meaning, if only for them. Best of all, Mammy's big Bible showed a big picture of a red devil. He had a pitchfork tail and a big laughing face. He really scared me, and the look on my face when I found his picture made Mammy laugh and giggle. When I looked over to Pappy he was laughing a bit, too. It was very disturbing for me to see that picture of the old devil! The next few times that I went down to Mammy's, I'd ask to see the ole' devil again and I would get scared all over.
