The Diaries of Sir Ernest Satow, 1921-1926 - Volume Two (1924-1926) by Ian Ruxton (ed.) Pdf
The distinguished diplomat Sir Ernest Satow's retirement began in 1906 and continued until his death in August 1929. From 1907 he settled in the small town of Ottery St. Mary in rural East Devon, England. He was very active, serving as a British delegate at the Second Hague Peace Conference in 1907 and on various committees related to church, missionary and other more local affairs: he was a magistrate and chairman of the Urban District Council. He had a very wide social circle of family, friends and former colleagues, with frequent distinguished visitors. He produced two seminal books: A Guide to Diplomatic Practice (1917, now in its seventh revised edition and referred to as 'Satow') and A Diplomat in Japan (1921). The latter is highly evaluated as a rare foreigner's view of the years leading to the Meiji Restoration of 1868. This book in two volumes is the last in a series of Satow's diaries edited by Ian Ruxton. This is the first-ever publication.
A love story like you've never read before. A tale of love, loss, and ultimate redemption. A journey laced with warring mental health, compulsive addictive tendencies, and desperate attempts for understanding and peace. Eventual self-discovery. Sat in an Edinburgh train station, Lucas recalls meeting Megan, a girl who shines a new light into his dark life, and once again life feels as though it's worth living, but lights are never without their shadows. Transported back through the years, Lucas intimately retells the spiral of falling in love, the ups and downs, their meetings and exclusions, and his path through the thick and thin. Both Megan and Lucas try desperately to escape their inner demons, finding sanctuary in one another, but never entirely. Everyone must face themselves eventually. They meet and break. Push and pull. Fix and fall apart. Through suffering, torment, escape, and ecstasy, can they learn the lesson that will ultimately set them free? I Escape Through You is a stunningly-written debut novel with a beautifully intimate and delicate style that won't be able to help but relate to. Loved by readers all over the world, this is a book that stings, feeling almost like a personal diary entry that you may have written yourself. Reflections you may see yourself in. Touching on all kinds of topics from across modern love, including attachment and mental health, follow Lucas as he recalls his story as he falls in love with Megan, and the realisations and lessons he learns along the way. I Escape Through You is a brilliant story about people, how they connect, how they love, and how that love and connection change over time. It's the need to escape and find our happy endings, but experiencing the stark realisation that true love doesn't come from loving others, but comes from a far deeper, much more real place. This novel will draw you in, resonate with so many parts of you, and leave you feeling like you've just awoken from a surreal dream. A love story like you've never read before. Featured on the LoveReadingUK July 'Indie Books We Love 2021' List! “When I first heard of ‘I Escape Through You’ by Mike Arnold it sounded like a story of the right person at the wrong time. However, this book is more than that. Taking a more intimate look at mental health, and how people leap into relationships in order to try to fix themselves as opposed to working to fix themselves,” - Charlotte Walker - LoveReading UK
